@trondws Thats so true, I had a wire-haired Dach a few years ago, even after a one hour walk, I could risk that It ran away into the woods just to come back an hour later with some bird feathers in its mouth!

Its time for us to get a dog and out of all options we got i just really want a dachshaund. they can put you in to a state of insanity with how reckless they can be, but in the end of the day by, just look at it, you remember why you love it so much.

She is always in the house with me, or on her leash for potty time. As soon as i noticed some swelling, I immediatly brought her to an emergency vet clinic.
I Like the fact a specialty food came out, I tried it with my little Gretchen; But she did not really like it! Maybe due to the fact of packaging? Perhaps it is stale, and I am the only one in the area that was buying it?

@Eidelmania I think you are right, dachshund do not like small kids, when the kids are older it is fine, but i would not advise this kind of dog for families with small children. (they are my favourite kind of dog though ;) )
@Eidelmania My dog likes kids as long as they don't chase him or scare him. I tell kids that if they want to meet my doxie, they have to get down to his level so he's not startled.
Ewwww-kanuba dog food is bad. I have owned 2 dogs and a cat who all refused to eat it. $25.00 for a bag I had to toss out because no other pet owner wanted it for their pets. They all said it sucked as well. It is just shit in a sack.

Typical commercial video. My dachshund looks great, has a shiny coat and I always get compliments how she looks. Even my people who breed them. But I've NEVER gave her Eukanuba. Never fed my other dogs that and they were all healthy and died at a very high age of seventeen. One of my dogs turns fourteen this months and is still going strong. Never ate Eukanuba in her life.
At first i want to have a chihuahua because they're cute and small. But my dad gave me a dachshund! her name is muffy but then i realize it's not about the breed it's about the personality! i really love her as i love my parents and i wouldn't exchange her for millions of chihuahua or other cute breeds!

My dachshund was a very loving dog, she passed away about two weeks ago. She was a very smart dog, and she was so affectionate, she didn't live a very long life because of her ailments, but she had lots of puppies and a loving husband with her.
For people who are thinking of getting a dachshund, get one. They are loving, smart, and adorable pets with an adventurous personality. Great for families :)
I wish they'd mention NOT allowing this breed to jump off of furniture because of the slipped discs, even when the slipped discs were mentioned. I've seen too many doxies put down because their back legs no longer work due to discs. Pet shops and breeders should also mention this to customers.
I love our doxies so much, that I do not feed them Eukanuba. It sucks. I feed mine Royal Canin. It really is better for them and does not make them so gassy. Plus, there coats are soft and shiny. Do NOT feed your dog Eukanuba. They will die early.

okay help I have 3 dachshunds . I have two that are very will house trained ; however my long hair will go on the floor when ever the mood strikes her. She has been to training I have kennel trained her used puppy pads; installed a doggy door . I don't know what else to do. Feed her at certain times and take her out when ever she eats. anymore suggestions or I am domed with her little messes.

@elliedachund no, there's no difference in character for male and female dachshunds. i have a 12 year old dachshund and a 13 year old cat and they get along great. Also, they are very active and even though my dachshund is 12 years old she still runs around outside all day and chases squirrels! ;p Piggy sounds so cute! Plus, my dachshund is a real pig and loves eating!!! lol :)
Right now we have him on Neutro which was recommended by his veterinarian years ago but we only give him 1/3 to 1/2 cup of it twice a day, he really needs to lose some weight
I didn't know they had a special dogfood for dachshunds. I have a 6 year old miniature black and tan dachshund, he is overweight and 21 pounds. Will this Eukanuda dachshund dogfood help with weight management too. Btw he has arthritis due to his weight and I've been told their breed is prone to obesity and arthritis besides back problems which fortunately we haven't had to deal with....yet.

gah! sucked into a Eukanuba commercial! Yes, it has Glucosamine and Condroiton, but what they don't tell you is that they use fillers like corn in the ingredients and they use animal by-products. For the same dang price, you can get an all natural (no fillers, no by-procuts, no perservatives) dog food WITH Glucosamine/Condroiton.

Gonna be honest, I don't agree with the get along with children, Dachshund's are great dogs but only if you are single and living alone. I've had 3 of them and they all pick a favorite in the family and stick to them like glue. They are not violently jealous but they are a little defensive of their favorites.
Every time my 2 dachshunds bark, people think they are a big dog. Then, when they see them they wonder how these two little dogs can have a big bark.

Wiener dogs are wretched animals. We own one and he is pretty much obnoxious. He barks in the middle of the night. He goes crazy when the washing machine runs and when the garage door goes up or down. He poops in the house. He pees in the house. Once when we took him camping, he peed on my daughter's sleeping bag. He is a dog.
@pinkmusiicluva Just a random doxie owner here. Doxies are good indoors and out. They are generally good with other dogs but you have to take the other dog into consideration here (whatever that other dog is). Don't be surprised if a dachshund "doesn't know his own size." They play with other dogs very well no matter how big they are and will often try to assume "alpha male" in the pecking order at home. Will the other dog mind? You have to answer that. Sometimes doxies get hurt because of this.

My long haired can be kinda relaxed...
But he's a puppy. So he can also be all up in your face too. And he's also a clown because he always does new things to make me laugh.
So maybe all dachshunds act more or less the same. I guess it's just strengthened in the different types or something.
But yeah long haired dachshunds have beautiful fur =D

I have a dachshund mixed! He actually looks like the dog at right at 3:03 but he is a little bit taller and his fur is not so short.And also his face is cuter , as he is mixed! :) he's a little bit differend but he still has the main features of dachshund at his body!I love him so much!

Dogs in general are good critters; if dogs didn't exist no one would believe a fiction writer who could come up with such an idea.
Dachshunds are a good breed; they're small hounds and this does give them the temperament of a true tracker and hunter; with some reasonable training when they're young, they're actually quite adept in the field.

okay help I have 3 dachshunds . I have two that are very will house trained ; however my long hair will go on the floor when ever the mood strikes her. She has been to training I have kennel trained her used puppy pads; installed a doggy door . I don't know what else to do. Feed her at certain times and take her out when ever she eats. anymore suggestions or I am domed with her little messes.

@elliedachund no, there's no difference in character for male and female dachshunds. i have a 12 year old dachshund and a 13 year old cat and they get along great. Also, they are very active and even though my dachshund is 12 years old she still runs around outside all day and chases squirrels! ;p Piggy sounds so cute! Plus, my dachshund is a real pig and loves eating!!! lol :)

Right now we have him on Neutro which was recommended by his veterinarian years ago but we only give him 1/3 to 1/2 cup of it twice a day, he really needs to lose some weight

I didn't know they had a special dogfood for dachshunds. I have a 6 year old miniature black and tan dachshund, he is overweight and 21 pounds. Will this Eukanuda dachshund dogfood help with weight management too. Btw he has arthritis due to his weight and I've been told their breed is prone to obesity and arthritis besides back problems which fortunately we haven't had to deal with....yet.

gah! sucked into a Eukanuba commercial! Yes, it has Glucosamine and Condroiton, but what they don't tell you is that they use fillers like corn in the ingredients and they use animal by-products. For the same dang price, you can get an all natural (no fillers, no by-procuts, no perservatives) dog food WITH Glucosamine/Condroiton.

Gonna be honest, I don't agree with the get along with children, Dachshund's are great dogs but only if you are single and living alone. I've had 3 of them and they all pick a favorite in the family and stick to them like glue. They are not violently jealous but they are a little defensive of their favorites.

I prefer the smooth coated dachshund. My is a smooth coated, and yes he loves little kids ( my cousins) , loves to bark like a hot rod, and mine, cristobal, loves girls, he is attracted by girls that sees in the streets and he always was happy when mi - now ex-gf was home, they are a wonderfull breed, I fell in love with the dachshund

Wiener dogs are wretched animals. We own one and he is pretty much obnoxious. He barks in the middle of the night. He goes crazy when the washing machine runs and when the garage door goes up or down. He poops in the house. He pees in the house. Once when we took him camping, he peed on my daughter's sleeping bag. He is a dog.

@pinkmusiicluva Just a random doxie owner here. Doxies are good indoors and out. They are generally good with other dogs but you have to take the other dog into consideration here (whatever that other dog is). Don't be surprised if a dachshund "doesn't know his own size." They play with other dogs very well no matter how big they are and will often try to assume "alpha male" in the pecking order at home. Will the other dog mind? You have to answer that. Sometimes doxies get hurt because of this.
