I really enjoy watching Portnoy on his kit because he is so animated and playful he actually makes these difficult songs look so easy to play. He looks like he's genuinely having fun, and he can convey that feeling towards his audience. That to me is what playing music is all about.

hey you can also lissen to the ridecymbal. if you lissen closely you notice that the ridecymbal isnt making any sound when mike hits the snaredrum. I think he hits eather one of the drums.

If you take a look just a little bit closer you can see the shot of his right hand is not clear, his body is obstructing the arm and the camera doesn´t get in time to see the beat, so you can´t tell if hi did the beat, besides of that it´s unbelieveable that someone can say that is har d to say if it´s playback, come on you can see all the beats that match perfectly

Axis103, If you see closly you'll se his other snare drum that he hits with his right hand when he throws the drumstick in the air! It is called good drumming that Mike Portnoy does. It is few drummers in the world that can have that balance of what he is doing. So lets just enjoy his work and musikk of the rest of the Dream Theater guys!! =)
