silvermonk: what a dodgy name. "Smackers" is not a word to be found in the English dictionary. And the kind of people who made this video would oppose any form of physical discipline that drew blood. What you speak of is madness.
Yeah a punch through a phonebook doesnt even leave any bruises, also have a go with a sack full of oranges next time your 4 year old spills his drink -not even a mark
Beat kids, then beat kids some more, a short brunch, more beating of kids, make 1st half of music video, break for a short beating, 2nd half of music video, finished of with one (beating) for the road.
What exactly do people fear about this bill going through? That their reasonable smacking will somehow be uncovered and they'll be fined or carted off? Honestly, think how feasible that sounds. Think HOW it would happen, and if you can't come up with a realistic scenario, then why would it affect you?
Oh, what the heck, get a life. It's already happening. Bradford's corruption of Section 59 simply gives CYFS more power, and they are allowed to use force to remove children from homes where they belive that force has been used by their parents to discipline them.
I've heard of it... But I can't say I remember it myself... It's pretty bad when The government won't listen, and then the opposition goes along with the government in disregarding the voice of the people.
What an irony!! Those who know the Pink Floyd video "The Wall" will be very aware of the satire showing faceless, masked children dropping into the mincer. Then Pink's psychological state when he mutilates himself as an adult, after the humiliating treatment he received in the classroom as a child.
Self-harm behaviour can result from smacking and pain in childhood; resulting in self-injury behaviour. Do some research on BDSM and BME and discover the addiction and effects of self-injury.
PlaneSpotterHeaven I agree, i think that as the current government refuses to listen to the majority of the community, i think yes the children will all be wards of state! WHERE DID DEMOCRACY GO? i have only one more thing to say! what does Bradford know she has admitted she did smack her kids as punishment and CLARK doesnt even have kids! and these are the people who are ruling on this? RIP democracy!
Campbell Live TV3 website has a web-video in three parts of Monday 2nd April's six way interview which included Simon Barnett and Christine Rankine. The argument for Bradfords bill amounts to "this is not an anti smacking bill" when anyone including the police and Sue Bradford herself agree that it is.
Governement is now hinting that children are not chattels of parents. Oh so does that mean that they are the property of the government, who do not respect the wishes of the majority of citizens and who refuse to implement binding referenda. Do they wish that all children are wards of the state? Is this showing their true colours as control freak communist, socialist, totalitarian, power crazed politicians?
What's ironic is that this cowboy, BuffaloBill23 thinks that reasonable force is unreasonable. Pink Floyd were not specifically singing against physical punishment, they were talking about how they felt that the state was producing "robots" from one big "machine". They sang about the bigger picture of the Government interfering with the life of an individual (in this case every child) at such a fundamental level as education.
I was talking of this video being unreasonable. I think its extremity gives an unreasonable account of what this bill is all about. No Pink Floyd were not specifically talking of physical punishment I agree. However, it was part of it. Perhaps you could apply your own argument to the view that this bill is not just about parents/families rights, it's about children. Parents are therefore just part of it.
The video is not unreasonable Buffalo Bill - you are a nonsensical and igmoramus person . I do believe over 90 % of the kiwi public are against the utopian idea from a unctuous radical feminist, who has connections to the New Zealand Socialist Action League . Take your bleeding heart liberal ideology - you silly lickspittle and speak your marxist matriarchy somewhere else . The video is a master piece.
There is no need to call anyone a "nonsensical and igmoramus person" simply because they disagree with you. Is it any wonder people have become upset with you, if this how you behave. I recall your comments on your 'Section 59' blog of the trouble you had on kiwiblog. Please keep your comments civil. Then others will treat you likewise.
What's ironic is Pink Floyd were singing against physical punishment in the classroom much the same way as this bill views physical punishment in the home - it's lost it's intended purpose and is now generally being abused. Plus I believe the view taken up here is quite extreme and "unreasonable."

So you bashed your kids into a bloody pulp and then met in a garage to shoot a crappy music video? All in a days work for the smackers.

No! it was:

Terrible. Crap singing, poor lyrics, and why bother with the puppets if you can't get them anywhere near in sync?

Ahah, and where's your contribution Morgneto?

My contribution to this topic of no substance and all hype? No thanks.

Haha, see, you've got nothing to go on mate. 83% of Kiwis don't want this ridiculous legislation, is that hype? is 83 people in 100 "no substance"?

Hey, remember the time a majority of the country voted to reduce the number of MPs? The PM doesn't ;)

The "ammendment" does nothing.
It's the people against Parliament now.
