  • You know, most of U-as someone close to me; commented; one day-"MISERY LOVES COMPANY" and I am leaving you's to your misery!!!! Cuz, I am not miserable, but U can make a person feel like it may be possible to get there. I will NOT let U get me, to that place! Patti Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I so miss that time - we were young and gorgeous, sexual and fascinated, the raw sexuality of a crowd getting turned on by the the music, the words, the singer, the guitarist, his guitar slung low, the rhythmic pump of the bass which feels like fucking, the vibration through your groin from the volume, rubbing against a tall, thin, stylish stranger in the crowd, your boyfriend slipping it in, after subtly wanking and fingering each other.

Try all that watching James Blunt or Beyonce or Moby.

  • @bellaquavita you have a great stream of consciousness way with words

  • @bellaquavita what's wrong with Moby...

  • @bellaquavita If they're going to Blunt or Beyonce or the Jonas Bros etc. they deserve what they get (or don't). Plus, it's unlikely they'd be watching this Patti vid ;-)

  • @bellaquavita Shiiittt.... That's sounds pretty hot and a lil disturbing since I think of everyone who comments on youtube as fat pimple-faced cartman-like beings. lololol No offense, its a general outlook.

  • I don't really get this song , I know Patti likes horses and her voice goes a bit excited ,has she had a bet and picked the first four winners at Newmarket

  • @chestikov2011 oh god - you really should not speak. you're either very stupid or very unfunny.

  • if you dont like the song dont fucking comment no one asked for your input theres a reason your the person commenting and not singing or getting commented on

  • I don t like it a all ..

  • @lO0V3M3 bit scary is it? you feel threatened? no-one cares, matey, what you think; so why are you telling us? fuck off back to folk land or safe electronica precinct and tell your 824 fake facespace friends how you just survived a terrifying incident.

Get a dick up ya and fuck off.

  • this song changed my life .....

  • @Australiophile me too!

  • this is going to be the first song on her upcoming single disc, 18 track CD called Outside Society. I can't wait til its released on 8/23!

  • Saw Patti Smith in Wilkes-Barre, PA longer ago than there is a right to be. Opening act was the Ramones. Quite a show. She insisted she was "not punk".

"Gloria" was written by Van Morrison for his band "Them". The Shadows of Knight version gained airplay over Them's version when they altered the lyrics enough to satisfy censors.

Lenny Kaye, Patti's guitarist, compiled the original "Nuggets" LP collection of garage and psych tracks for Elektra.

  • @BuckyFuller44 Patti Smith and the Ramones in Wilkes-Barre? Damn I wish I was alive back then. Wilkes-Barre is shit for music now.

  • @BuckyFuller44 fuckybuller - I am so so envious. Australia had very few excellent tours - but some came over. It is still the same - distance, time and expense is prohibitive, but some have done it. you guys in US have no idea how fortunate you are with the live music scene

  • im currently readin the book "Just Kids" written by Patti Smith. I adore romantisizing every detail of it and finding wonder in the fact that she and robert actually had a life like they did. has anybody else read the book? id look to know your thoughts on it

  • @3TMLauren Read it in three sittings. Beautiful writing and full of "Oh THAT'S where she got that" moments for me. In particular, I've decided that the lyrics in this very song, "I go to this here party, and I just get bored, until I look out the window see a sweet young thing, hooking on the parking meter, leaning on the parking meter" refers to her seeing Robert M. leaning on a parking meter on the street, as she saw him while looking through a window in an art museum.

  • So she was punk :P?

I saw a docu about the seven stages of rock

apperantly, when patti smith's band went to london, they heard about sex pistols

and then they heard about Sex Pistols so they went to a gig. The lead guy from Pistols said "I heard some 'ippies today singing about horses horses and horses on TV. MORE LIKE HORSE SHIT!!"

Patti isn't shit but the story is just LOL. and it was told by the guitarist of patti smith group

  • @pfl95 "The Lead Guy From (Sex) Pistols??!! wtf? John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. Very witty guy who wound up the world with outrageous comments, hair and dress. I just can't stand your ignorance - it's giving me nausea. And you even watched a docu they were in......

  • what a voice! how evocative - might go seduce the first person I see.

  • @bellaquavita You get it.

  • I bought this album randomly... i heared it was good so i thought what the hell. Damn i was amazed, what a brilliant album. This song is stunning. A true classic. Thank fuck for patii smith!

  • @Sita570 WHAT???

  • @bellaquavita

Sorry, that's what happens when you don't log off on a shared computer. That wasn't my response..

  • Anyone else think that if they made a movie about Patti Smith, that Charlotte Gainsbourg should play her?

  • @windrix1 If that did happen I bet Kate Winslet would get the part

  • @windrix1 I keep thinking that. Looks, acting skills and talent singing and playing guitar. Definately.

  • @windrix1 I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that!

  • the master of time: Patti Smith.

  • just ...love patti......

  • Damn right!!

  • i saw her live and she played this live...and then she did a duet with iggy pop

    mind=blown.

  • This is not hers song

  • It's originally by a band called "them".

    But it's a rad cover!!

  • @flothelurker - Remember 'Them' was Van Morrison's original group...I liked this version better tho.

  • She's my idol.

As a 15 year old, it's like, she's a bad ass chick who doesn't give a shit, who like, isn't afraid to speak the truth.

    Love it. :]

  • jesus died for somebodys sins but not mine

  • Television are amazing at playing their instruments!!

  • @alleghenyman who cares? they've got soul, poetry, art, emotion...

you want viruosity, check out Yngwie Malmsteen, lol.

  • @5e1enium

    haha : D

  • @alleghenyman

    HEROIN!

  • strongly.. foolish ...so powerfull.

    Horses just like a dream...free.

  • i love her free verse/stream of consciousness way of writing...so noncommercial...and just great/beautiful

  • Petty shit meets Patti Smith. And copulate. And beget this.

  • "Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine."

Never fails to make me smile.

  • @kerrigan199 why would that make you smile?

  • why arent there 6 stars to give???

    more than brilliant...

  • The best opening line ever.

  • The Pixies are my favorite musical artist, but this is my favorite musical recording (the album Horses, I mean). Unequaled and unparalleled, in my opinion.

  • ...MITICA.....y e a h ....!

  • OK, this is a Morrison´s song. But Patti makes a real miracle! So I think.

  • van morrison is a titan and probably my favorite singer period but I always preferred this version of gloria

  • this is the best shit ever I love women PERIOD

  • This gets my vote for the GREATEST Rock and Roll song ever recorded.

  • g.l.o.r.i.a.!

  • gonna uh! uhh! make her mine!!

  • PATTI SMITH RULES

  • That old whatshisface, VAN MORRISON is next to Bob Dylan one of the most influential singers and songwriters of the last 50 years. patti smith is not known by most music fans..

  • because she ain't a corporate whore like fat Jim. Didn't he duet with Cliff Richard? rolf.

  • @pythonbyte Umm yeah.. I think you're getting Van Morrison confused with Jim Morrison. Do your Rock & Roll homework buddy!

  • @scarlet000begonia You should go back to your homework; it's definitely Van Morrisson : )

  • @UnAneBouffeurdeMerde, you got us all doing homework, cool. Van Morrison is the bomb. But Patti re-invented the song. Her whole opening is all her original material. This is 1975. A woman, Patti Smith is singing about a sweet young female humping a parking meter. To disabuse us of any doubt as to her "intensions." Patti is going to UH UH make her mine.

  • doofus

  • to clarify: that was meant for littleboy. van morrison is an bite-sized ginger genius. who are you?

  • whoa so much anger! Didnt mean to offend anybody- 'whatsisface' was supposed to be ironic (NB: never rely on tone in textual communication). I Iove van morrison, although I prefer patti smith's version of gloria.

  • In the time of p0Rn chicks attempting to sing... thankgod for Patti. Music has no meaning anymore... just how much err how little cloths you can wear and if your a DDD your going places.

A crying shame what has happened to music.

Awesome awesome song here. Woot Patti Smith!

  • i agree

  • @Mopardood Totally agree with you. All songs these days are about drugs, parties and sluty whores! And there are only few bands left that actually sing about something worth listening to! Love you Patti, your my hero!

  • @Mopardood I'm more worried about the chastity-bashers than the pornstars, personally.

  • 1:44 - 1:46

    lovely

  • the godmother of punk :D

  • Yes, together with Iggy Pop and MC5 they gave the worl not just another musical genre, but the whole movement, that still lives and I doubt that it's gonna disappear soon. ;)

  • I love Patti Smith.

  • jesus died for somebodys sins but not mine

  • Dude all incarnations of Gloria I've heard on Youtube have rocked my world.

  • If you don´t like this song, something is wrong in your fucking brain.

  • @DuplexPaladins

    fuck off queer

  • @DuplexPaladins

I bet you could post that comment with most any song on youtube and get lots of thumbs-up

  • bella, bella e ancora bella...non smetterò mai di dirlo!

  • I've put off getting this album for like 2 years. Getting it now.

  • Amazing voice, simply amazing.

  • One of the best opening lyrics ever:

Jesus died for somebodies sins, but not mine...

  • LOL...

    RATS

    I love it!

  • Wtf TheHatefuldead.

    That made no fucking sense.

  • that's from heroin by the velvet underground. who wrote the line first? not that it matters too much.

  • I think Patti Smith wrote the opening line, her mother was a Jehovah Witness and tried to give her a "religious education". It was also "borrowed" by Velvet Underground for Heroin

  • Jay Dee Daugherty is incredible on this track....this album destroyed me the first time I heard it in the mid seventies...

  • she is hot, she rocks

  • Comment removed

  • I completely agree. There's a few pics of her with maplethorpe that you should see if you haven't.

  • ohh yeahh.. I would be kissing her long neck all night long....

  • lol

  • I'm gonna go out there and say that the +12 means people don't think you're crazy.

  • There is something very sexy about her. Not in the conventional sense, but in a very dark way. Almost Masochistic. You gotta respect someone who does things on their own terms.

  • @DarthKrattus

she's not cute, she is SEXY ! pretty darn sexy, not in the stereotypical way, but her voice and music really turns you on :D

  • I absolutely love The Doors and I haven't heard their version but I am sure their version is just as good.. this version is amazing, Patti is amazing

  • Amazing!! I love Patti!!

  • This is the first song I ever heard by Miss Smith, and it was love at first listen: I wore out 4 records, 3 tapes and a CD...

    Thank you!

  • You gotta love this woman

  • o fuck, I love this song. so much better than the doors.

  • patti smith kicked blondie out of cbgb's club because she was the only girl punk there and she thought that blondie would steal her thunder

  • google gloria and youll find that Van Morrison wrote the original song in 1963 when he was 18 years old and that The Doors and J. Morrison covered it after first playing it with Van's Them band.

  • The live version from SNL is much better than this studio release IMO. This clean version doesn't seem to fit her raw vocals and style. Watching her acting out the tune as well as belting it out is the only way to experience Patti. Pure, raw talent.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time.

  • what a tune

  • JESUS DIED FOR SOMEBODY SINS BUT NOT MINES

    Just... awesome

  • It is Van Morrison

  • brilliant singer

  • I'm proud to be named after her. =]]

I wish my voice was more like hers though, I can't sing blusie stuff. Not without tones of practice.

  • Patti Smith - greatest female rocker of the 70's. I didn't say "most famous"...

  • good song
