@TheBitterSweetgr I listen to metal and I listen to the Beach Boys, in addition to a pretty wide variety of genres. I have brains and an open mind. Apparently you don't...
@killsurfpsych If you knew my musical range you wouldn't say that I suspect....starting with The Tindersticks and Sisters Of Mercy, having a sip of The Old Floyd and ending with Debussy....you are a quick jenius....you....you seem to know everything....I just speculated on why on earth anybody would vote negatively here....but apparently you are the one for "youtube fights"....as for The Great Holy Metal Scene....
@killsurfpsych Message continued.....with the exception of early Maiden, early Metallica and some of the new Opeth stuff,I'm definitely NOT into it(heavy metal)....too saxonic and yell-ish for me....on the contrary I have a great fondness and sympathy for Progressive Rock of the 70's...I hope you're a little bit more satisfied now...
Brian Wilson transcends genius-His chords and arrangements are just beyond anything else. In a way it reminds me of "Spinal Tap" and the "Lick My Love Pump" thing. Forget the goofy girls, or car stuff, just listen to the chords and harmonies. We had the Beach Boys long before the Beatles, but their sweetness wasn't really appreciated till later. Not to take away from the Beatles--whole different thing- but who did the Beach Boys have to emulate? The Four Freshmen? Onward to Steely Dan
Boy do I miss the young Brian Wilson great song/harminies but those bathing suits would trigger a lewdness arrest back in the early 1960's. Great thanks fo rthe video/audio.
Watching this makes me want to drop everything and run for the nearest beach right now! I'm determined to go this summer no matter what it takes. Maybe the greatest clip in the history of youtube! God bless the boys from Hawthorne for telling it like it is, and God bless those "girls on the beach".....

Supercharge87 at 1:52 it shows a whole nipple because of the FCC now adays you dont even get that in sexual rap videos i dont think this is the original video but yes this songs about sex nothing innocent about it but still a great song
O M G a mushroom cap !!!!!!!! a mushroomcap on Youtube !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1: 51 !!!!!!!!!!!!1 lol I love this song . The harmony is a compisition lesson. Also I had to change the word for the top of a baby bottle for mushroom cap.
Sometimes I get ticked off at the fact that music lost the innocence that it had with groups like this. A summer song about girls on the beach today would likely be explicit and refer to sex very openly.
@lumpfish99 Okay, okay, you've made your point. Maybe this song wasn't so "innocent," but at least Brian Wilson wasn't explicitly singing about "tapping that ho's ass" (if you'll pardon my french).
@Supercharge87 your comments are entirely accurate. there's a difference between crass and class. "lyrics" of rap or hip hop are over the top nauseating.
@elperromagico This song is way more musically complex than "Surfer Girl." Unless you're talking about lyrics, but who cares about lyrics? All the early Beach Boys material was pretty much about one of three subjects, but it's amazing.
Fantastic...iver heard it a million times....I love you and thank you for what you do...I miss Carl and Denny, Your talent is overwhelming and timeless.. much brotherley love to you...all our heroes r dieing...LP just passed I know you read these comments. your pal; Rockin john!
@danrontay "Girls on the Beach" is an emotional bath of achingly gorgeous harmonies - it's hard to believe that Brian Wilson wrote it in February of 1964 - some of the modulations are quite advanced for that period (or any period). I agree that it is one of the greatest songs in pop history, conveying a timeless warmth and rapture.
Its intense yet serene richness of feeling shows today's music for the utter trash that it is by conmparison.
the '65 view was very different from your portrayal ... they didn't have the attitude nor the "thong look", but were much more approachable and usually were nicer than the stuck up snots nowadays. (we'll all have blue hair or glasses someday-)
I hear ya, man. I think that feminism went wrong when it re-claimed the word "bitch" as a "compliment." Being bitchy doesn't make a woman a feminist heroine, and it wasn't invent to advance women's rights; it holds them back, and it makes the world a colder place. Being a bitch is no better than being a male jerk.
Thanks! Nice Song. A simple beautiful beach without bru-hassles and without the mental worries and spiritual aberrations and consternations. Relax and peaceful. But without the hellhound b--ches that ruins the day, only nice ordinary girls around. Life will be better like the 60' 70's and 80's.==tbc==....
Love the way the key switches back and forth in this song and the beautiful transitions between the two keys. Such a beautiful song and truly unique. Way to go, Brian. I've yet to hear music from any other rock composer that's so completely original.
Brian Wilson was and still is amazing. Simply-marvelous songwriting. There will never be another like him. Nobody is even in the same building as him, as far as I'm concerned.
I agree. Arguably, the greatest all around talent pop music has ever known ( songwriting, production, arranging, vocals,...). He was Lennon/McC + George Martin all wrapped into one guy.
The summer sounds of the Beach Boys are as priceless and timeless as the girls that they sing about. Like the artistic beauty of a sun tanned "Babe" lying on the beach, the same artistic magic is applicable to the way that the Beach Boys put those sentiments and feelings that we all feel, into words and music. Thank you to all of the Beach Boys for giving all of us so much to remember and cherish. JMR
The genius part is that there are about 4 key changes, including one mid-verse. Like Mark said, virtually nobody was doing that in 1964, let alone a "pop" band singing about surfing. Brian did things musically that up until then, pop groups just didn't think of.
Brian's chord sequence in songs such as Warmth of the Sun, Keep an Eye on Summer...also confirm genius. I have seen Brian up close many times - - always leave in awe of how so many great melodies came from one guy.
To a young guy in Denver, this song said it all about the magic of California, The Beach Boys, and all those impossibly gorgeous, sun-kissed Blondes! What a time, wnat a warm and wonderful time it was. Wolfsky9
Couldn't agree with you more, many more beautiful ballads to name a few. Kiss Me Baby,Betsy,Spirit of America,Young Man is Gone, and so on. Just incredible harmonies and vocals that move your feelings, my favorite of all time is The Warmth of The Sun,at some time to make a video, thanks.
