that was awesome. the minute I saw it say .300mag, I knew that gel was gonna fly. How did you make the gel? I'd love to see the gel shot with a 1 oz. high velocity 12ga slug.
the 1st shot of .22 is way off. other professorial testing shows that the .22LR penetrates 6-8 inches some tests have shown 11 inches but this was rare competition grade ammunition (And if this gel is just very small , my apologies)
Other than that I very much enjoyed the Exploding gel ;) Nice vid thumbs up
@nuckinfuts77 his gel wasnt dense enough you can tell by the texture of good ballistics gel if it is accurate you dont want it to be gello my tests show a 22 going 14 inches from a rifle and 10 inches from my sw revolver
Hey, just wondering, what did you use (and in what ratios), to make this "ballistic gel" :P I want to test some 7.62X39 ammo, and would love to whip up a batch of this stuff. If you feel like sharing, you can either message me, or reply to this post :) Thanks!
Yes but in order for a .22 to penetrate the skull you have to be very close, a big buck has a much thicker and tougher skull than a man and its brain is a lot smaller, so you will have to stand even closer
@Jaahaah you guys talk as if you have actually shot deer with .22 LOL obviously you have not. i shot a deer in the head with a 10/22 at 104 yards and thats not very close and guess what!!!! it dropped dead (GASP) you moron
The .300 was shot at the bottom of what was left of the gel. Shooting the bottom of the gel will make the expansion of the gel push upward, launching the gel off the table.
the thing about gel is the bullets can tumble and worm in weird directions. that's why some calibers looked weak. Also FMJ bullets will cause less impact wave than a hollow point.
@Jacobbz206 A 9mm has a Larger O.D than a .357 by .100 thou and will leave abigger hole than a .357 but not a .44 seen both and measured both with a micrometer 9mm converts to .374. a .375 actually measures .355. The nine is more than shit at least if you get one that shoots the 9mm nato rounds from 124 grain up to 147 the +p+. and remember the .357 standard is a 125 weight round only up to a 158 grain
great idea, i wish you had tons of those blocks to use one per shot and one of those 10,000 fps cameras. But nice experiment, it shows the penetration and stopping power of each bullet in a way most of us don't have access to. thanks for sharing and congratulations for having all those guns available to have so much fun. i envy you : )
WOW, those muzzle blast pics were incredible! I like the music too. I would liked to have seen the .300 winmag shoot first... Especially with some pork ribs kind of "casted" in there, just to put things into perspective...
5 stars for using real guns, but you shouldve replaced the gel for the higher calibers because its weakened from being shot by other stuff. and you shouldve made a bigger block so you can shoot more into it
The 9mm hydra-shok was the only bullet retained in the gel. All others passed on through except the .17 HMR which fragmented a few inches inside the gel.
I sure wouldn't want to be hit with it. I hear it kills more people a year than other calibers in the U.S. But it also protects and saves a lot of women who are afraid to shoot anything larger or can't lug around a larger weapon.
come on...I wasn't talking about ALL women. SOME women are afraid to shoot anything larger than a .22 I have seen it. SOME women don't or can't carry a larger weapon because of the type of clothing they wear and the purses or bags they carry. It looks to me that YOU just want to scream at someone YOU think is a sexist. If this is what you think then I must inform you that you are mistaken. My wife personally carries a 9MM.
I agree, that guy is an idiot just spoilin to mess with somebody. Besides, scientists have proven that women are just more comfortable holding cooking utensils than they are holding a weapon. That's not a generalization, there are numerous double blind studies. Don't get mad at me, get mad at the people with doctorates who are masters of their field.
We got a new camera! Its not a high speed, but it is HD. Not that it matters here, but it will help with making another video. I also got a rock island 1911 .45 so we will have another caliber to try next time.
Be nice to know the length of that jello. I just made a batch and wanted to get an idea of what some various 22lr rounds would do per inch. My guess is 10" is adequate for most 22lr rounds. doing a test run before a day shooting on 1/1/09 with several more blocks of jello vs. everything from 22lr to 9mm to 44mag to 7.62x54r to 30.06 and some 223.
Anyway, looks like this jello was done in for after the 357 and definitely after the 44mag. nice job!
Its the only one we had. This wasn't really planned. It just happened and I had my camera that day. Although if you thought it was stupid you could have just stopped watching it.
Pretty cool but it still goes in pretty deep, even from the .22, I expected the .22 to maybe stop in the middle. But it was fun to see the gel jiggle around lol.
Its a great gun. Its my CCW. When I first got it the empty shells wouldn't come out of the cylinder very well, but thats not a problem anymore. I guess there was a burr in there.
How do you like your xd9? I'm leaning towards the xd40 sub for my CCW, and the taurus 617 for home defense. Right now I carry a Ruger p90 for my CCW, it's kinda big though. Do you carry the 617 because it's more reliable than a semi-auto? Sorry to bother you with more questions; but you seem like you know your guns.
Hi. I carry the 617 mainly because it is a little easier to conceal. The hndle is slimmer than he xd9 subby. My wife carries my xd because she can put it in her purse. In the winter I carry my xd becuase I have a CCW jacket that will conceal just about anything (even a ruger redhawk). As for reliability, both have been flawless. I have even tried to 'limp wrist' the xd and couldn't get a FTF out of it.
What would be the point in that? Most aniMALs aren't transparent and you can't really see the wound channel. carrying all of these guns hunting wouldn't be a good idea either.
Believe it or not, but none of the people I shoot with owns a .308 so we couldn't use one. there were about 7 shooters there and this is all we had at the time.
If I had the money for one. These things are uber expnsive! Doesn't stop me from trying to find one though. To spend several thousand bucks on a camera for a few you tube videos isn't really worth it to me.
fenderbenderxd, your awesome. i especially love the muzzle flash shots that you captured. i would love to support you guys but unfortunately im a broke college student myself and barely have enough money to shoot my beloved AK-47. keep up the good work, hopefully in the future ill be able to help you out
If anyone would like to donate and funds to help us get supplies to do another video it would be greatly appreciated! I will give credits on the next video to whoever wants to. We need to buy gel and ammo which is not cheap. We will use more blocks of gel and more calibers. In the unlikely event someone would want to donate just send me an email and we will discuss it further. Thanks!

peckerwood321 2 years ago
The statistics presented by gpfwestie in the comments are complete bullshit
UK Home Office lists their violent crime rate at 24.5/1000 pop as of 2007/2008
The US reports their violent crime rate at 485/100,000 pop as of 2008
Therefore the UK violent crime rate of 2450/100,000 pop is five times higher than the US
His figure of 16/100,000 pop was probably 16/1000...which it was in 2002/2003
UK Home Office was caught in 2003 and in 2005 removing close to 11 million offences from the books

This stuff is actually re enterable encapsulant. A lot like the balistic gel, but not as jello-like.

That was great!
But you passed up .308!

Believe it or not, but none of the people I shoot with owns a .308 so we couldn't use one. there were about 7 shooters there and this is all we had at the time.

now all they need is a high-speed camera

If I had the money for one. These things are uber expnsive! Doesn't stop me from trying to find one though. To spend several thousand bucks on a camera for a few you tube videos isn't really worth it to me.

Thanks!
