• I can play any note with one finger very fast, so there are only 9 fingers left to exercise, and there are 88 keys, that is (mumblemumble) 880 fingers times keys to practice, well, ahemmm, what am I talking.

  • Genius.

  • Simply a genius.

  • The most fascinating truth is that he does not do those things for jokes. One amazing man! Bach would've been a great admirer, I believe!

  • Étonnant. Merveilleux. Il est possédé par la musique. Une belle leçon pour nous autres musiciens.

  • Kramer Plays Bach

  • La prof de Latin avait raison..il est zarbe oô

  • Grandmaster Gould in the house rocking Baroque!! Biz markie would approve.

  • Este hombre era feliz, se ve cuando toca el piano.

  • Excelente pianista, creo que sentir mucho la musica es de humanos muy sensibles...Bach logra despertar esos sentimientos ...y el piano de glenn Gould tambien....muy espiritual..

  • @kourosh89 Can we see your videos of you playing piano? Please indulge us. Or...you could keep calling Gould overrated with no credibility in your own right.....

  • @kourosh89 Both are wrong

     and stupid

  • @kourosh89 Gould wasn't gay, he wasn't interested in women. Although there're some stories that link him with certain woman. But as Da Vinci, these guys just don't have time for women.

  • @Fryderykchop ...but according to Assassins Creed II DaVinci was as gay as a handbag full of rainbows.

  • @somebodyshootme lol.. yes and Ezio Auditore was an assassin, not a common banker haha.. Great minds go beyond common pleasures, I can just point out these two, but I'm sure there many others.

  • @Fryderykchop Cornelia Foss was having sex with Glenn Gould for 6 years, while she was still married to her husband.

  • @kourosh89 Yes, that's what I meant before. Either way, 50 years of life and just 6 of sexual activity... At least we agree on his heterosexuality.

  • Gould`s Bach is always stunnig-the c-minor partita is amazing and this outtake of the film is very amusing

  • "Glenn Gould plays Bach".

    Yes. Yes, he does.

  • Glenn Gould is Jimmy Neutron of music.

  • Grootmeester Aller Tijden

  • The sound of waves and birds didn't annoy me very much. It sounded rather like a joyful jam. I think it's because he plays with nature. He walked to the window, and got inspiration from stiring of the woods outside, I think.

  • Fookin' 'ell!!

Too bad Mr. Gould died before being able to marvel at the amazing fugues that I have written.

  • Oh my f*cking Gould.

  • Who is better Bach or Lil Wayne?

  • @Billeteria

If your serious. You need help. Maybe serquel.

  • As a baby, he reportedly hummed instead of crying..

  • @1Thompsonmusic Dear 1Thompsonmusic

I advise you not to insult a name like Glenn Gould out in the open. It may be bad for your health. And I'm sure a pianist like him didn't give a damn about people who found(find) his daily practice an act of seeking attention. Yours truly, me.

  • Your video is a favorite on Djibouti

  • Solo se attraversati dalla genialitá....

  • That is one lucky dog! :P

  • what's funny is that this is better than the official recording of glenn gould playing it...

  • Looks like common morning in his life, superb perfomance+excellent footage of the video also.

  • Amazing. That´s an artist, there´s no doubt. The power of music is incredible. LOVE & PEACE from GIJON, ASTURIAS, SPAIN

  • Never heard this piece. WOW!!! Gonna try and learn this though may be beyond me as struggle with beethoven.

  • amazing footage~incredible musician, love this!

  • Wowza

  • MAGNIFICAT EXULTATÉ GLORIA ...

  • Glenn Gould, maybe the best performer of Bach at the piano!!

  • Гленн Гульд играет Баха

    И гулит аки голубь

    Вот-вот проклюнет птаха

    Во льду небесном прорубь...

  • 19yrs old and that was wicked sick lol- im a guitarist but by how he stood up and started playing again, makes me think that this guy uses all brain power and no muscle memory

  • wow......

  • He has very small ears

  • Glenn Good is so Gould...

  • another eccentric, how entertaining!

  • I love to watch people loving what they do. Who cares what noises he makes? He's not performing.

  • @MTJLT

    You are damm right. !!!

  • I love this piece, but hate Gould...Personally, I don't get what all the fuss is about him. Obviously a performer is important for producing the music, but I am not usually floored by them- it's the MUSIC which is sublime.

  • Is a Genius

  • 2:00 awesome moment! :)

    Great performer!

  • Just a cacophony of sound. Where is the musicality?

  • @genesisx100 dans ton cul !!!!!

  • @genesisx100 Completely above you, unfortunately...

  • Check out 2:14 - 2:18. Apparently that which instills a sense of awe in us humans doesn't do it for the canine species, lol. :)

  • amazing...nut-unhinged genius

  • @stupidemu Oh sorry, can you please show us how you would record this? And can you also send me a link to the website selling your CDs? I must have missed your debut at Carnigie Hall and all the publicity you've been receiving ever since. And I must have skipped over all the biographies written about your extraordinary talent.

  • We meet again 240p. sigh.

  • The humming is fucking epic, what are you guys talking about? it simply reinstates this man's genius qualities.

  • A true genius. Sometimes funny (1:23 wait for iit *Ding*), sometimes almost scary.

  • made me cry , so moving ,such feeling /depth.

turn off yr facebbook, iphones people and learn an instrument, never too late.

  • who the fuck would talk shit on his humming!? leave the comments to the true ears people.

  • If you can't hum what you're playing, you have no business playing it anyway.

  • @Quikfingers he humms right;)

  • what is he playing for real? because that's not partita #2 I think, its for violin! so What it is? thx

  • @leoservet Bach also wrote partitas for keyboard: BWV 825-830

  • @leoservet it is lol just not whole

  • I hate to be cheesy, but I just experiences what it's like to watch a genius. I have chills.

  • Me encanta su tarareo... y por su puesto su forma de tocar... y obviamente esta magnífica pieza de Bach.

  • when he stood up, sat down, and starting playing again i was like "OH FUCK YEAH!'. i absolutely love this guy. nobody plays bach with more passion than he does.

  • STO GODENDO

  • i forgot how sexy it is for a man to play piano like that

  • chills; love the humming who could dislike that!?.........

  • Glenn, you left us all way too soon : (

  • Happy Birthday Glenn! I <3 your music.

  • he sits to low i think

  • @piano0b He doesn't think so.

  • Bach for lassie's

  • The 124 people who disliked this video must not only be deficient in their appreciation of great music and art, but also deficient in their love of humanity...

  • i think if anybody had as much Bach memorized as he does, they might hum a little too..(or a lot) nobody plays Bach with more passion...

  • Mind. blown.

  • ✁

  • I don't like the humming. I guess I'm just not appreciative of artistic masterbation, but I prefer pianists who get out of Bach's way. Not to say I don't love Gould.

  • this has to be my favorite performance of bach

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬(ஜ۩۞۩ஜ)▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬(ஜ۩۞۩ஜ)▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • AGREED

  • @adrahaxxen FUCK OFF WITH THESE

  • @adrahaxxen-------------Amen-----------------

  • @adrahaxxen No You Shut Up.

  • Genius.

  • the bobby fischer of the music world ....

  • sorry but I dont reacall back notating humming on sheet music..if thats the case, call bobby mcfarrin least he can do it will real skill!

  • The coolest concert pianist ever to have walked this earth.

  • thanks for Johann & Glenn!

  • I would love to hear gould interpretation of such a piece in an interview. Its like nothing else out there. And I love this piece so much more after hearing him play this.

    Thank you gg

  • There is probably no other video on youtube I watched with more amazement than this one..and I must laugh every time(maybe that`s part of why)

  • @reviewsvoiceontube so true.. so freaking true lol

  • Gould...I smell jew...

  • @rsoarch7 he's not Jewish, and he even talks about people teasing him because they thought he was Jewish because of his name but he wasn't.

  • @rsoarch7 And I smell a Nazi...

  • @OhadAlmagorOhad -A stinking one at that. May misery be his just reward.

  • @rsoarch7 and I smell feces odor emanating from your distasteful foolish and incorrect comment. Your comment proves that you are undereducated, an ass, and/or someone else of low quality has hijacked your account. If you weren't insecure about yourself you probably wouldn't desire to compensate via weak attacks against others.

  • If you don't like Glenn Gould's humming, just don't bother listening to Glenn Gould.

    As simple as it gets.

  • the ancestor of lang lang

  • Standard Notation was to him a cleave into the past creating two simultaneous yet disharmonious stands of suggestion. In his ramblings we see him THINK tHROUGH all the options to emit manually what was there originally (with all the crap of A PERFORMER removed). His performance denies his own input and in doing so hands the controls over to the world of The spirits whose soul pleasure is to be heard in this, the real/actual world. i know. They told me.

  • @joelarseneau : Beautiful comment.

  • if i could play as well as glenn gould, i would spend my entire day on the piano but unfortunately i cant so i spend all my time listening to him on youtube instead :)

  • love the part at 0:43

  • Glenn plays like an angel. So, why is there never an end to criticisms of players such as Glenn Gould, and Virgil Fox. Is it jealousy? I think that the "purists" criticise these marvelous players because they themselves cannot play this well. So pathetic.

  • I fucking love the bit at 1:05, he could have made that into a piece. He then goes on to fucking nail Bach.

  • @curzmg He is the only player I have ever heard who can make Bach genuinely exciting; I mean he actually makes Bach rock.

  • making noises while playing: glenn gould...yes, keith jarret (listen to "the koln concert", among others. also pull out jimmy smith, the great jazz organist of "got my mojo working" fame.

  • I love this ..... so unrehearsed, bad sound track .... humming and totally into the music. I idolized Gould as a young teenager in Canada and cloned his mannerisms, doing my best to replicate his style. Alas my teacher at Juilliard was not impressed. " Shtop ...Shtop .... you play zat yoost like Glenn Gould .... und you both play like shmucks ..." I had no idea what the word meant but his tone implied it was not good.

But it was the best praise I ever remember.

  • spellbinding - brilliant,nature force on 11!

  • I know where Glenn goes through here. Although I play the Transverse flute and recorder and I know these instrument s very very well and I know that the notes are the beginning of a journey that never stops and that the end of each expression of the peace has already stopped the notes, because thats the end of everything; I know where Gould is going through as musician. I had the same with the tio sonatas from Telemann; Bach an d more based on the flute peaces. its really a birth if a peace.

  • Hi, guys i'm a Gould fanatic. Sorry for my english but i need your help. For my birthday I must increase my book collection about Glenn. I've bought only Tim Page and B. Monsaingeon contributions but I need some suggestions about other material. For instance, which is the book where is mentioned his love for some movies such as winter light by bergman? Is maybe G. Gould selected letters from Gertin and Roberts? Or can be found in K. Bazzana biography?

  • this is how creation looked... but with singles celled organisms, stars, tragedies and other living and non living representations of musical harmony... now life looks like dubstep and nikki minaj... thanks for the vid

  • i like bach but this guy add some joy to the song, he's really good

  • All that matters is what's coming out of the piano.

  • This is what counterpart is meant to sound like. I think Bach would have been please, you just can get that kind of expression on a harpsichord or organ.

  • completely crazy

  • A tormented genius. Even when I'm totally at odds with a Gould interpretation I have to marvel at his amazing technique.

  • That's all I was saying. In Gould's case he may have gone a too far. But even went he went to far, he was great .

I mean my teacher 21, believe he is still at Kenyon. This dude first played with an orchestra -- and of course that is nothing new.

Anyhow he kept making fun of Gould's chair etc... and saying his Goldberg Variations were great but simply not bach. But I'd rather play a fairly racy interpretation than a piece by a nobody.

    I'm sure you agree.

    k

  • No it most certainly does not. If I could write that well I would ( well maybe not ) as famous, but I don't think there was a decent composer who did not want some license taken by the Musician.

Some people play the second movement like it is a rag piece ( I my opinion going a little two far with modifying the tempo and rhythm ) But if everyone played the same the same way it would be kind of boring. Maybe Gould went too far, but I still like it. And doubt LVB is rolling in the grave.

  • @turncapp If you have your own interpretation with the rhythm and tempo, then that's fine. It sounded like you were saying you play it drastically different. It goes without saying that everyone has their own interpretation.

  • where in the hell would you get that from?

    of course not.

  • @turncapp "I refuse to play Beethoven's final sonata exactly as written."

Which implies that your version is better than Beethoven's.

  • ... and that's the reason why a computer cannot play the Piano...

  • Musicians with asperger's syndrome are more passionate about their music. I am a pianist with asperger's myself and I know I get right into it everytime I play. James Durbin is also one of my idols in life.

  • all of you! are you fucking crazy? whats up with you blabbering about humming? its just musicianship overflowing! ask to any jazzman about one of the greatest jazz pianist KEITH JARRET, and ask if the humming is bad. they gonna beat the shit out of you!

  • @ManelRuivo

Whatever, man. The humming is distracting, and it does not add to the music.

  • @depauw2004 - I think the humming adds character; it shows how into the music Gould was... But all right then, I suppose we should stop forcing you to listen to music you hate.

  • @Otacon144

I don't hate the music. Just the humming.

  • @depauw2004 - You don't have to listen to that either.

  • @depauw2004 You just don't know a good hum job when you hear one.

  • @depauw2004 "Most people", Frank said, as he harvested his lonely dental floss, "Wouldn't know music if it came up and bit them on the ass." The humming is part of the sound of the music.

  • @ManelRuivo 1000 percent correct

  • @ManelRuivo Ha ha! Keith Jarret humms because he thinks that imitating Gould will making him a great pianist. His un-emotional, pretentious humming is pathetic.

Gould is in another universe together with Bach.

  • @ManelRuivo You're right!

  • @ManelRuivo

    Well jazz sucks..

  • @Kinjutsuu your dick

  • @ManelRuivo I consinder myself to be a jazzman of sorts and I am not a big fan of Jarrets humming. However, I love it when Gould does it.

  • 2:55

    WALK AWAY LIKE A HOSS

  • Genius!!

  • I've found an not well known musician, Juan Jose CHUQUISENGO (also Sony artist like G. GOuld!!) - hear the Gigue of Bach French Suite, clarity, touch, joy, spirit - just amazing!!!!

I've read he also doesn't perform, is black belt in Karate and Kung Fu, plays jazz, tangos and improvisations in Keith Jarrett style, teaches phenomenology of music at some international academy of Barenboim... WHO is this guy??

  • His humming is distracting

  • I do not get your point, No one can the 32 sonata with out some license.

  • amazing... just amazing

  • Half of the song is cut out in this version. Look up Partita 2 to hear the whole thing.

  • Nevermind, found it... was just a normal partita.. #826 in Cm if anyone else is interested

  • what's the BWV number? I've looked at all the the violin paritas/sonatas from 1001-1006, but can't imagine this being an adaptation of a violin piece. I thought I'd seen something vaguely familiar in BWV 1002, but that was a while ago.. any help?

  • @rds769 This is BWV 826.

  • what a lucky dog

  • @turncapp oh you do a big mistake...you try to see only the art and not the personallity...music is the only art that need attention to the maker...if don't play bethoven as he is written you won't be able to really understand the piece...

  • @Grivendal

Wrong. No composer wrote in a way that was static. If everyone played beethoven the same way -- why listen to it more than once.

  • He is the 'Overman' that Nietche was speaking.....

  • Great!! Great!! Great!!

  • I commented on this `Bach rehearsal with sea gulls and the pet collie` some years ago- I Ialways like to come back to and watch it again-it is so impressive-his short break at 2:02 and the pianistic talent displayed in Gould`s extravagant style- a joy to watch

  • This video shows a fantastic performance. Glenn Gould! One of the greatest pianists ever, and for me, the best bach pianist. And the top comments is for Lady Gaga???!!! For god shakes!! Vote something else! I don't care about the fact that there are bad comments for gaga. There still exist!! By the way, this partita is amazing..(And sorry for my english!)

  • @megamarkos

Right there with you. I can't remember which moronic loser said 'Glenn Gould Sucked' and can't figure out if it was a joke. But with an open mind I listened to Gaga -- and she is worse than Celine Dion. of Jlo.

Hey, I had teachers that hated him and it was for spite.

When I practice I sing along as well -- it helps with your breathing techniques, and prevents subjective hearing. I am really jealous of him. But only as I wish I could be as good. NOT
