There are a lot of urban legends that float around Iowa when it comes to this ride. I remember hearing them even as a young kid in the 80s.

I should hope so -- one of the first non-Disney theme parks, Six Flags, originated there in the 60s. And until Astroworld closed just a few years ago, Texas had three large amusement parks (including Fiesta Texas, which became a Six Flags park). I grew up in Houston.

The Tornado, though, is a classic, built around the same time as the Texas Cyclone, which opened in 1976. The Tornado opened two years later.

And ... both were designed by William Cobb.
