  • And Jon Brion on the keys right now!

  • I think you should all shut up and watch the video.

  • Jon Brion should shut up and play his guitar.

  • @Ersontilly Yeah..umm..because that's the only thing Jon Brion can do? I think you should shut up and leave the internet.

  • he sounds like a college professor.

  • Coffee can't slap a restraining order on Jon Brion! LOL!

  • Jon Brion is a genius !!!

  • I think Jon Brion is Lennon-McCartney of our time.

  • jon may be right it just might be all about beer

  • 6:52-7:04 Fucking hilarious

  • wow this guy really answered Tom's quiestions!

  • I love 'Meaningless' 'Huckabees' 'Jellyfish' 'Magnolia' 'Here We Go'... just all of it. A great, great songwriter, musician, producer, guy.

  • I make hip-hop and I fucking love this guy

  • seriously smart dude, dont agree with his veiws on hiphop so much though

  • Wow... He's actually brilliant! I'm glad he answered the way he did about Nickelback haha..

  • @minwav

    stfu

  • @Stickykeys2010 what does stfu mean? And don't come back with "see how stupid he is everyone?" because again, that is a redundant remark.

  • Love Jon.B. ! I'm after some advice if anyone out there can help please? I really like the score/s John Brion has made for Punch Drunk Love and in particular how he makes the music sound like it was recorded in mono or something in the 1950's! Now, I'm very new to digital music making but am trying to make a score for a short film. Is there anyone who's familiar in the area, know what effects I'd use, or how I'd go about making my score have that great, 1950's, mono recorded sound? Thanks :-)

  • I love this man's work, especially his film scores with Kaufman. However, I don't like his comment on religion. It's very pretentious and belittling, boasting a "superior" atheistic intelligence (which in fact is quite nebulous) over anyone who follows a religion or has faith in a God(s).

  • seriously its so common. they almost seem to not know they are doing it.

  • Does it not trouble you that someone as artistic and thoughtful as Jon could think that way? To be honest, his answer was extremely courteous to theists. With the amount of bigotry, destructive, intellectual and artistic stultification, and war all in the name of a few competing "magic" books one would think people like you would have the decency to accept Jon's MILD and overwhelmingly gentle interpretation of whatever cult it is you belong to.

    There.

  • Want to know what cult I believe in? It's called atheism. That's what troubles me; this atheist superiority complex in which one feels they are above anyone who believes in religion, when in fact atheism is still a belief system just like all the rest. To say that someone is "limited" and can't handle "not knowing" because they believe in something just doesn't fly with me. I mean, your comment in a way proved my point exactly.

  • My comment didn't prove squat. Atheism is not a belief system and every honest person in the world knows it. A(theism). Theism is a variety of belief systems that plays upon man's solipsism and wish for a controlling patriarchal figure. Atheism is a rejection of all forms of theism. Babies are atheists because they have not been taught any theistic belief system. If you don't admit this then you are just another dishonest theist willing to bend the truth to your comfort.

  • "Atheism is a rejection of all forms of theism" + "Babies are atheists because they have not been taught any theistic belief system" = contradiction. Oh well, guess I'm just another dishonest theist willing to bend the truth to my comfort, right? I believe in atheism. The key word being believe. It is a personal choice to "reject" theism. I just don't believe that one should feel dominant or have hatred even in the smallest form towards someone for what they believe, that's all I'm saying...

  • no contradiction.. perhaps rejections.. no not perhaps.. rejection was the wrong word. atheism is just a lack of belief in god or theism. so babies are atheists implicitly as they have not reasoned a god or religion into existence.

and i don't really hate anyone for their beliefs. i don't think hate is anything other than a psychological egotistical chemical reaction in the brain. I maintain that religion is blatantly false and demonstrably corrosive to humanity.

  • So, since you feel religion is corrosive to humanity, do you wish that every person alive was atheist, that religion did not exist?

  • Obviously the answer is yes.

However, I wouldn't wish anyone to be forced out of their religion. I think it is important to slowly erode its choke hold on the world the way racism has been eroded in America.

  • Last night was Jon Brion's last regular Friday Largo show. (And it was spectacular!) Starting in January 2010, he'll be doing once-monthly shows. And he said he was going to work on an album. Yay! :-)

  • America, be proud to call this man one of your sons. He is a wonderful musician and songwriter.

  • Everybody, Jon owns every Friday night at the Largo in LA. I've only got to see him once, and wow, he is an amazing performer. It's just him on stage, and with sampling he creates this massive show of all kinds of music, all performed right there. The power on the whole side of the block actually went out for most of the show, and Jon went acoustic and made a great show.

  • @StevieSwigginburger I'm jealous you got to see the infamous blackout show! :-)

  • wow, very rare character

    i understand him completely

  • Jon has such a natural charm.

  • Glen Ridge NJ!

  • Someone needs to ask him when he is going to finish album #2.

  • Jon Brion is the man. I realy admire him and his body of work.

  • "what do you think of Nickelback? -Pass!!"

I would say "I wish they were dead"

  • Wow you seriously think Jon Brion sucks? This blows my mind how anyone could think Jon Brion is anything but brilliant! (Each to their own)

  • Jon Brion is a genius savant. Anyone interested in sampling his work, please do yourself a favor and find a copy of his CD meaningless immediately.

  • Well, while most rock musicians are either too dumb or just arrogant pricks, Jon looks just as brilliant in words as in making music.

  • Jon Brion is the thinking mans musician. Most people don't know of him enough to appreciate his music. Though if people did, the would be surprised who he worked with, in fact he produced Keane's latest album.

  • He didn't produce Keane's latests album, they self produced it themselves.

  • Yes he did, read the album liner notes before you post.

  • No he didn't. He helped keane 2-3 days with the record in Paris. He helped them especially with You haven't told me anything and persuade them that it's not wrong to do something different with this new album.

Keane produced the album themselves, so non2002 is right..

  • He only produced the first track.

  • He just talked too much! love tom's accent and his laugh! its so hilarious

  • I love Jon Brion, especially his film scores (I Heart Huckabees!). I enjoyed this interview a great deal. =) Thanks, Tom.

  • I've got a question: What do you think of Tom?

    Answer:

    Handsome, cool, beautiful,exciting,delectable,sexy,lovely,

    great-singer,talented,kissable,....need I go on???????

  • Jon Brion said that?!?

  • Great stuff! Jon is genius! If ever you are in LA on a Friday night go see him perform at Largo...

  • i lovee tom!!!!! =)

greetings from buenos aires, argentina =)

  • It's pathetic how people can vote on comments, it's like child's play. I have an opinion different to everyone else and you thumb me down.

I just think this guy talked way too much and wasn't that interesting, compared to everyone else who was on "What do you think of?"

I'm not bashing Keane or the video.

  • ur like, the only person along with me that can comment normal things, every else just says "omg i luv u tom" lol fukn gays

  • I know right...loool.

I personally think this video was not interesting, why is it a problem?!

I love Keane and their music, just not the person they're interviewing in this vid.

  • Go find something more intelligent to say.

  • Actually, I think these were short answers for Jon Brion, lol. Of course, in my own opinion, JB is infinitely more interesting than Keane.

  • omg Tom (L) I love him

  • I love how a famous guy i've never heard of doesn't like Nickelback. I'm embarrassed they are from my province....

  • Awesome interview, Jon Brion is great! I am loving these videos, Tom. Keep up the good work!

  • What you think of Belo Horizonte?

    Asnwer for us on friday!!!!

  • Very funny and interesting! Keane, welcom to BELO HORIZONTE!!!

  • What do you think of Nickel Back? Pass!!

  • Homer knows best indeed! and now i need some coffee.

  • Ana (L)

  • 7:00 - 7:02, very very good question, Tom.

Thank you for sharing. II'm just relaxing on my bed, tired from writing my exams - so thanks for entertaining me. I'll go out for a party tonight, do you like to come?

  • agreed

  • Tom you legend! This is really sweet ^^ I like this one. Thank you for sharing (:

  • Great video!!!

  • The religion part is really nice, yes! I totally agree with Jon.

Tom, congratulations! The interviews are great, that was a pretty good idea.
