Great guy but the religion comment is a little naive and redundant. Very...uh...democrat. Liberal. But lacking true exploration, like most alcohol drinking atheists, he's simply given up the search and decided to "take it easy" and the annoying thing is that he's predictably going to look at someone who has faith as a simple-minded redneck Republican. It's a predictable and redundant outlook.
Love Jon.B. ! I'm after some advice if anyone out there can help please? I really like the score/s John Brion has made for Punch Drunk Love and in particular how he makes the music sound like it was recorded in mono or something in the 1950's! Now, I'm very new to digital music making but am trying to make a score for a short film. Is there anyone who's familiar in the area, know what effects I'd use, or how I'd go about making my score have that great, 1950's, mono recorded sound? Thanks :-)
I love this man's work, especially his film scores with Kaufman. However, I don't like his comment on religion. It's very pretentious and belittling, boasting a "superior" atheistic intelligence (which in fact is quite nebulous) over anyone who follows a religion or has faith in a God(s).
Does it not trouble you that someone as artistic and thoughtful as Jon could think that way? To be honest, his answer was extremely courteous to theists. With the amount of bigotry, destructive, intellectual and artistic stultification, and war all in the name of a few competing "magic" books one would think people like you would have the decency to accept Jon's MILD and overwhelmingly gentle interpretation of whatever cult it is you belong to.
Want to know what cult I believe in? It's called atheism. That's what troubles me; this atheist superiority complex in which one feels they are above anyone who believes in religion, when in fact atheism is still a belief system just like all the rest. To say that someone is "limited" and can't handle "not knowing" because they believe in something just doesn't fly with me. I mean, your comment in a way proved my point exactly.
My comment didn't prove squat. Atheism is not a belief system and every honest person in the world knows it. A(theism). Theism is a variety of belief systems that plays upon man's solipsism and wish for a controlling patriarchal figure. Atheism is a rejection of all forms of theism. Babies are atheists because they have not been taught any theistic belief system. If you don't admit this then you are just another dishonest theist willing to bend the truth to your comfort.
"Atheism is a rejection of all forms of theism" + "Babies are atheists because they have not been taught any theistic belief system" = contradiction. Oh well, guess I'm just another dishonest theist willing to bend the truth to my comfort, right? I believe in atheism. The key word being believe. It is a personal choice to "reject" theism. I just don't believe that one should feel dominant or have hatred even in the smallest form towards someone for what they believe, that's all I'm saying...
no contradiction.. perhaps rejections.. no not perhaps.. rejection was the wrong word. atheism is just a lack of belief in god or theism. so babies are atheists implicitly as they have not reasoned a god or religion into existence.
and i don't really hate anyone for their beliefs. i don't think hate is anything other than a psychological egotistical chemical reaction in the brain. I maintain that religion is blatantly false and demonstrably corrosive to humanity.
However, I wouldn't wish anyone to be forced out of their religion. I think it is important to slowly erode its choke hold on the world the way racism has been eroded in America.
Last night was Jon Brion's last regular Friday Largo show. (And it was spectacular!) Starting in January 2010, he'll be doing once-monthly shows. And he said he was going to work on an album. Yay! :-)
Everybody, Jon owns every Friday night at the Largo in LA. I've only got to see him once, and wow, he is an amazing performer. It's just him on stage, and with sampling he creates this massive show of all kinds of music, all performed right there. The power on the whole side of the block actually went out for most of the show, and Jon went acoustic and made a great show.
hey, you guys should check out my cover of perfect symmetry by keane!!! id appreciate it if you watched it cuz it's like an a capella version and im singing all of the parts, a bunch of editing :]
Jon Brion is the thinking mans musician. Most people don't know of him enough to appreciate his music. Though if people did, the would be surprised who he worked with, in fact he produced Keane's latest album.
No he didn't. He helped keane 2-3 days with the record in Paris. He helped them especially with You haven't told me anything and persuade them that it's not wrong to do something different with this new album.
Keane produced the album themselves, so non2002 is right..
Thank you for sharing. II'm just relaxing on my bed, tired from writing my exams - so thanks for entertaining me. I'll go out for a party tonight, do you like to come?
And Jon Brion on the keys right now!

So, since you feel religion is corrosive to humanity, do you wish that every person alive was atheist, that religion did not exist?

Obviously the answer is yes.

It's pathetic how people can vote on comments, it's like child's play. I have an opinion different to everyone else and you thumb me down.
I just think this guy talked way too much and wasn't that interesting, compared to everyone else who was on "What do you think of?"
I'm not bashing Keane or the video.
