That's got to be one hell of a bicep workout. Holding your elbow at a 90degree angle for an extended period of time is murder on either arm, especially holding a gun.
These are the same full-time soldiers who form the backbone of British forces on operations in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
The Grenadier Guards, seen here, had just returned from Afghanistan just a few months prior to when this video was filmed.
They do this until they swap roles with another regiment so the men can go back to what some view as 'real' soldiering, i.e. preparing for operations and the operational deployment itself.

@MrMightymitch1
Yep he's sweating, they practically ran from Buckingham Palace.
Also they wear t-shirts underneath their tunics to soak up the sweat.

@HMKGman1 why fo they covers on the sights and working parts ?
joshkay41 1 year ago
@joshkay41
So that the handguard and and SUSAT sights don't catch on and poke at their uniform; potentially damaging it over time.
As well as to provide obvious protection for the lenses on the SUSAT, the cover can be quickly removed should the need to aim and fire arise.

@emptyangel yeah that does make sense :) one of them buttons coming off would be a mare
joshkay41 1 year ago
This is certainly a unique way of marching!
Do they have metal platet shoes? (For the extra sound)
HMKGman1 1 year ago
@HMKGman1
Yes, although I think it's more for durability than for the sound.
