@codaddict25 Well, when I bought this laptop, I was allowed to update to windows 7 pretty easily. I'm not sure if that was a promotional deal or not though.
hey dude i have a question, do you know how to shut up a noisy fan that makes a grinding sound whenever i lift it up. Cause my A85-S107 has that issue. If you know how to fix it, that would be awesome! :)
@Computist40 While I'm not entirely sure what drives you already have installed on your A85-S107, I know that there are BIOS and driver updates that can reduce the speed/noise of the fan to make it work easier. A friend of mine did this on his own computer and it seemed to work, so I would recommend looking for these updates. Just searching for A85-S107 Bios/driver updates on Google would let you find them pretty easily. Hope this helps!

Toshiba is a piece of crap. I was sold this Toshiba Satellite L350 by Staples Business Depot.Within a few days of purchase there was a large piece of glue between the display screen and the clear plastic cover.This machine is not a year old:there are now 6 pieces of glue between the display and the clear plastic cover.I called Toshiba customer service and was cut off 4 times.These companies are criminals selling crap for profit margin.The best we can do is not buy from Toshiba or its associates.

It still runs great, I haven't ever had problems playing games, or surfing the net. And actually, the other computer my friend had in the comparison video actually crashed and his laptop is as old as mine. (He has restored it since though!)

@gresleya3kid When I bought the laptop a year ago, I paid around $1000, but now you can pick this up for $500. The key pad unfortunately doesn't light up, but other models in the A500 line do if you're that interested, and finally all Toshiba Satellites have a slot-in cd drive. Hope this helps!

@izreallylolz If it is the first Assassin's Creed, then I would recommend the A500, but for the sequel, I would say to look into one of the newer models on the A500 branch, just so that you can get the best out of Assassin's Creed 2. Hope this helps!

It is not that it is bad, in fact, it does everything that I want it to do, but from what I have seen of other Toshiba models and Asus recently, there are a lot of things that they can do now that are just amazing.
@Harvoable96 At the time that I bought this laptop, the price was at $1000, but from I have heard that you can get this at Best Buy for almost half that now. Also, this laptop may not have the power to play Crisis at max settings, but both Mass Effects look and work great!
lol just bought the toshiba satellite a500, and mine didnt even have a fucking webcam, and before people are like "you didnt buy the satellite a500" etc, i did, it even says it on the bottom of the laptop, on the manuals and on the receipt, its funny cause the plastic that was on the laptop when its new that you take off was even shaped as if there was a webcam haha, what a joke
@alien679 While Asus laptops are generally better in overall quality, a Toshiba laptop will still give you a pretty powerful machine with less chance of system malfunctions than an Asus.
@Cakeman777 Toshiba have a better built built quality overall. I have a Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV680 from 2007, has the best sound system I heard from any laptop, alot of people think I have exernal speakers hook up to it., also has a 1080p lcd panel great for watching movies and doesn't bleed like most lcd's do. I try a ASUS and bought it right back, display wasn't as bright and the light bleed right tru the display and sound was no where as good as the Toshiba, ASUS has a better GPU that it.
Why is it your computer has everything lower than mine except the GPU and I have everything else better than yours except the GPU? :( I have i7, DDR3, super awesome, except the crappy GeForce 310M!
the reason why it was so slow at first is because you need to wait a couple of minutes to load once you started clicking on things before it was completely loaded it confused the computer
@TimeSplittersChimp I would recommend the A500. I conducted a lot of research when considering which laptop I was going to buy. I considered the HP Pavilion, HP Envy, the Sony Vaio E and F series and, what I think is the best, the Toshiba A500/02J. I definitely recommend the Toshiba. Toshiba offers the best, well-built laptops.
Between the i5 and the i3 cores, the main difference that you will find will be in the GHz of the computer, that being the base clock speed, and the turbo frequency. I would say that the i5 would be a better choice to pick up because of its higher speed to that of an i3 at only a bit higher of a price. Hope this helps!
That's why I don't like Ubuntu. It's too minimal, and not as nearly as appealing to the eye as Windows 7, and yes, I was referring to OSX, if you always have to be politically correct.
In my opinion, Windows 7 is so much better than Macintosh or Ubuntu, because Macintosh is just plain, gray, uninteresting, and just boring. Ubuntu just looks like cluttered garbage.

I have an A500. How do you turn the internal speakers off when plugging in external speakers? Is that even possible? there are only jacks for a mic and headphones????
(I think the Harman/ Kardon speakers are excellent but I have a better set of external speakers which I like to use).

hello. just got an a500-027, and it is great. i do have one question you might be able to answer, though. how do you take out the dummy card in the pci slot? it's been bugging me. i can't figure it out.
First, I do notice that the keys are a bit too close together, but you do get used to them in a little while. Second the trackpad is so far to the left, so that it is under the spacebar while you are typing, it is actually really nice to have there.
I'm just curious, how has this laptop been? have you had any problems with it or anything since you've had it? any overheating or such? I'm thinking about getting the a500-027 soon
The only real problem that I have noticed so far, is that it takes about five mins to get everything loaded up, and a few connection problems with my router. Everything else is doing great.
You just Need To go Type MSCONFIg On the search Then Go to startup and Unckeck All The Unnecessary programs I ,will save About 1 mn or More If you have lots of programs ; Hope It helped : SOrry for My english
Well, even though I haven't really tried out any 3D Graphic programs, I can tell you that the AVI radeon catalyst 3D enviroments testing program worked wonders on this system. If I didn't quite answer your question just send me another message.
Now with the A505-S6965, that is the next small step up from the A500-025 and while they are pretty similar, the A505-S6965 has a backlit keyboard and a few less ports on the sides. The price is just a little bit more than mine was, a great looking machine however.
It all depends on the model that you bought, the model that I have, and I can only assume that you have is the A500 PSAM3C-025017. The models with a backlit keyboard are: A500-ST5602, A505D-S6968, A505-S6965, A505-S6966, and A505-S6979.
I'm hoping to get one of these for my 18th... It's a shame there's so videos on YouTube for them, though, like video reviews. Have you considered doing one?
Well, the keypad isn't touch screen, but the keyboard and the mouse pad are working great. Sorry if I didn't answer your question right, but when someone tells me, touch screen keypad, I just think of actually touching the screen of the laptop.
how long did it take till u started playing with your laptop. because asoon as i turned it on i havent done nothing but wait for it to configure the system?
While it did take a fair bit of time to start actually using the system, I didn't really think it took too long, like maybe 20 mins. Although this could all depend on if you bought the pre-prepared version, (Like I did) or the completely fresh version.

It´s slow for me. Look in the end of video: the boot time of windows is too long.
Maybe with the new Intel Core i3 !! In stores in february (2010).

what I mean is, how do you turn the Harman/ kardon speakers off when you plug in some external speakers? - they just stay on

I have an A500. How do you turn the internal speakers off when plugging in external speakers? Is that even possible? there are only jacks for a mic and headphones????
(I think the Harman/ Kardon speakers are excellent but I have a better set of external speakers which I like to use).

I'm thinking about getting this laptop.
What do you think about Toshiba laptop keyboards? I find them a little too bunched up - anyone else notice this when you type?
& why is the trackpad/ keypad so far to the left on A500s? Does it feel weird when you use it?

First, I do notice that the keys are a bit too close together, but you do get used to them in a little while. Second the trackpad is so far to the left, so that it is under the spacebar while you are typing, it is actually really nice to have there.

From what I have looked at, the A500-025 and the A500-138 are essentially the same system, but the A500-138 is European.

The only real problem that I have noticed so far, is that it takes about five mins to get everything loaded up, and a few connection problems with my router. Everything else is doing great.

You just Need To go Type MSCONFIg On the search Then Go to startup and Unckeck All The Unnecessary programs I ,will save About 1 mn or More If you have lots of programs ; Hope It helped : SOrry for My english

Well, even though I haven't really tried out any 3D Graphic programs, I can tell you that the AVI radeon catalyst 3D enviroments testing program worked wonders on this system. If I didn't quite answer your question just send me another message.

Now with the A505-S6965, that is the next small step up from the A500-025 and while they are pretty similar, the A505-S6965 has a backlit keyboard and a few less ports on the sides. The price is just a little bit more than mine was, a great looking machine however.

It all depends on the model that you bought, the model that I have, and I can only assume that you have is the A500 PSAM3C-025017. The models with a backlit keyboard are: A500-ST5602, A505D-S6968, A505-S6965, A505-S6966, and A505-S6979.

Nah, I don't have a backlit keyboard, but I think that this particular laptop has more power and memory than those other ones.

Well, the keypad isn't touch screen, but the keyboard and the mouse pad are working great. Sorry if I didn't answer your question right, but when someone tells me, touch screen keypad, I just think of actually touching the screen of the laptop.

While it did take a fair bit of time to start actually using the system, I didn't really think it took too long, like maybe 20 mins. Although this could all depend on if you bought the pre-prepared version, (Like I did) or the completely fresh version.
