To understand why Christ had to be sacrificed it's important to read some of the Old Testament. There you will read about the Jews receiving commandments from God which involved sacrificing animals and why. God in His mercy allowed animals to receive the punishment for sins they committed. That was because the animals represented the future coming of Christ. God is willing to put the punishment of sins you committed on Christ. If you repent and accept the atonement. I am going to get a degree in Theology then teach the Catholic Faith for a living so that the younger generation doesn't have the same indifference to Christ that I had when I was a youngster.
