you guys both have good points, personally though I love HipHop producers who know how to sample with talent and creativity, it's a lot harder than some would imagine. Lol at the album cover though
Does anyone have a song by E.U. called Rock Ya Butt? This was there first Go Go hit that came out around 1980....Also does anyone have E.U. live in concert from their "OOH La La La" album?
I think Trouble Funk's "Straight Up Funk Go GO Style" and E.U.'s "OOh La La La" album where the greatest go go live albums of all time.
DC have always been a band town, that is why that turntable thing with Hip-Hop didn't kickoff because DC is a Live Music town. here are some of the band that were kicing hard pre G0-GO , Osiris,Blackheat, Soul Searchers, The Young Senators who later became Eddie Kendricks back-up band, The Korvettes, Scacy and the Sound Service, Jungle Rock, The Shadows, Hot Cold Sweat, Keisha and so many other bands to many to name
Yes indeed.. EU has been around since the mid-70s, just like Rare Essence. Go-Go Bands started off doing R&B and Funk covers until the sound really took off in the late 70's with Chuck Brown's Busting Loose.
yeah brotha, you got to reconize E.U. go back to 1970 with a 13 year old bass player by the name of Gregory Sugar Bear Elliot. Listen to some early Soul Searchers with Chuck Brown, The Go-Go sound hadn't kick off at that time. It evolved. they played basic funk
@kekambas79 now it's all talentless hacks sampling this shit. you know everything has gone wrong when you have to literally copy and paste something from the past because you're just not good enough.
@rexasul Do you even understand the concept of sampling? You think people sample to piss you off in particular? Producers sample because they appreciate great music, if it wasn't for their "copy and paste" then none of us young people would never even have a single clue of who any of the 70's artist would be.
I thank producers that sample because they bring up these gems from obscurity.
@gp5 I'm talking about the shit you hear on the radio these days. There are a few old school hip hop artists that used samples to great effect, and I respect that. These days, they're used simply because the artists are soulless bitches with dollar signs in their eyes, and don't have musical ideas of their own. But of course, you are welcome to argue that.
@gp5 correct, people have the right to music, thanks to djs bringing "american music" to Italy I was able to learn about the beyond music form my first pirate radio days back in '81, so let the tunes circulate, right on!!!
@gp5 25 Sampling OTHER PEOPLES' MUSIC is wrong, it shows a lack of creativity. Anyone can be funky with OTHER PEOPLES' MUSIC, especially when it's of this caliber. Oh well.
have not heard such music in along time,SUPERB.

That's some good history there. You're right about rap music. bad sound systems killed it in DC until a whole generation was born.

the drummer on this album also played on Grace Jones Slave to the Rhythm
robertbowen 2 years ago
Oh ok. I thought Sly Dunbar played on that Grace Jones song. I do know him and Robbie Shakespear played with her.
cjjaxxon 2 years ago
@robertbowen The drummer on Slave to the Rhythm (JuJu House) is not the same drummer from this album (Ricky Wellman).
