I felt so sorry for Red, he must have been gutted, it was one of the highlights of Seabiscuit's career and he wasnt riding him or even there... He must have been so proud of him though :)
Simple facts of this race was both owners knew how big this race was, both jockeys knew how big this race was and so they were prepared, if War Admiral had a bad start then so be it, if Sea Biscuit has a bad start then so be it, but the facts were War Admiral lost and lost convincingly. shall we make up an excuse that War Admiral has the wrong aftershave on or the horse didn't could spell loser ? You would have seen WA rear up a little at the start (Biscuit kept low) - at the time that Woolf was whipping the crap out of Seabiscuit to get that lighting start. Admiral was playing catch-up from then on, mainly on the outside, and if you know anything about racing, you would know that that would tire the hell out of a horse trying to take the lead. This is what happened to Sham at Belmont '73 - he faded to last.
