Actually, the movie 'City of God' is about ten years old now. The show proceeded the film. It's a spin-off from around 2003 or 2004. So my question stands, what happened to 'City of Men'? I don't even recall the series coming to an end properly here in the UK, anyway....

What a horrible teacher! When kids have questions, they should be answered, or the student should be encouraged to go to a book, or computer to find out the answers. That would contribute to an atmosphere of real learning.

It wasn't the series I was commenting on, but the teacher. It was a horrible way to teach a class, just covering facts because it's your job, which is only real learning if the student finds that interesting(in any case, probably not!)

@MrPotatoesLatkie But that's the reality of Brazilian (public) schools: teachers in Brazil work a lot, they have to face all the social problems brought to school by the students (hunger, psycological problems and even violence against teachers) and they earn a shame of a salary. You seem to be a teacher, me too and I gave up working at schools because it's too hard, tiresome and stressfull (and thank God I had the option of leaving). (Real) teaching is a sacrifice here.

I started watching this show about 2-1/2 years ago. It is the best, most honest show on TV. The two young actors are incredible.

i highly recommend this series. didn't know it was available on DVD now in english-speaking countries; just stumbled across this by accident here. most brazilian tv is crap, but this is one of the rare, good exceptions. mostly because it shows the reality of life for the poor in brazil's cities.
