  • *dont...sorry :-)

  • It's ok sista! I truly do feel yo though. I just noticed the same thing myself not to mention thinning! It's not your fault so do take it so personal. Sometimes we forget about our sweaters, gloves, other things we come into contact with on a daily basis that may cause lint or attract things. But, the best advice I can give you from someone who just loves your locs, DONT PICK AT THE LINT...it'll just tear them apart. Stay strong in your journey and thanks for keeping it real!

    Bless!

  • Hay Koko, I just want to say, I feel you Hun, I felt the same way for the longest time just until I ofund out what this was. I found out the problem wasn't lint its actually Mold/Mildew caused from Improper rinsing and drying after washing hair and irregular shampooing... Yeah I know my feelings were hurt too... :(( I'll send you the link.. I hope it helps...

  • @Kimoraly p.s I sent the link in your channel comments, I was having trouble posting the link for everyone to see..

  • koko! I'm right there with you lady!!! I feel exactly like that right now.. I saw the BronzeGoddess's video and did the ACV / Baking soda cleanser and it fizzed a ton, but it didn't work out the way it worked for her. I'm switching my regimen to only using oils for maintenance, so hopefully that should help. Let me know if you've resolved the issue.

  • Btw, I live in Detroit and these crumb snatchers up here always buying out the good stuff lol

  • *hug u* THANK U cuz i wanted 2 know wtf it was lol im cool with em honestly wat i do is i try 2 pic em out with a tweezer or dependin on where it is i whud cut d end if it on d end but slowly but surely they are cumin out

  • Shout! The new year and the lint was a deadly combination when struggling with a lint problem. I could have easily cut them and started the year fresh. I tried picking with a pin, pencil and markers to get rid of the lint and NOTHING WORKED! Mad about it. I am committed to my locs so I share your pain and feeling of betrayal. Thanks for voicing it!

  • I feel you, everyone who's locked has lint in them. The only way I know to get rid of lint is to comb it out. I only do it to get lint out near the tips. Then comb twist the ends back together. hope that helps.

  • i honestly feel that your hair and your personality are both beautiful. the "lint" problem, i feel, is actual product buildup. my boyfriend has been locked for 10 years and he only used product once to start them and doesn't have this issue at all. i have the EXACT same problem that you have and i feel that it is because of the products. i've switched to carol's daughters loc butter which is less heavy and so far it seems to work. hopefully this is helpful. keep strong sister, it's a journey.

  • I luv ur locks to me, to me I don't notice any lint, but keep doing it videos. Can't wait til I get ur length. I'm 3mos in

  • Omg!! Girl the same thing is happening to me. I did the Rinse to clean my local and it literally brought all the lint to the surface. I tried picking it out, got frustrated and cut at least three of my locs. Contemplating color.. Ugh!! I feel your frustration my sister.

  • update please...

  • I <3 u Kokooo !

  • CHECK out Damien Walter from Houston locks!!! Personally I don't think it's lint it is build of whatever your using in your head gels, beeswax pudding type things!!! He is heavy against gels check him out he is a locktician

  • Oh Lord I should have done a vid on this a long time ago. It is torture but there is lint particles floating everywhere and there is no place to hide. As your locs mature the lint on the inside is pushed to the surface.

  • Most of the locs on the back row pick up lint from your clothing. No matter how much you use a silk scarf or a silk or satin pillow case there will always be lint. I have be loced for 9 years and It's just part of having locs. If someone tell you they don't have lint, then they haven't really looked at their own locs. Nobody ever notices the lint in mine.

  • NO don't cut them off. I know what you're going thru..been there. I think it's possible that white residue comes from conditioner. Have you ever noticed conditioner doesn't rinse out real good with "natural hair" unless you repeat rinsing your hair over & over. Conditioner & loc's I think don't go together. This has been my experience. Really all you need is olive oil some pomade & or hair lotion to condition.

  • Your locs are beatiful regardless.

  • Ahhhhhhh I just saw this and I might have to do a tutorial but I just got some nappy human hair and wrapped it around in certain spots where the lint actually built up...ONLY in the lint spots...wrap it around a couple of times and then get a needle and thread and go through one or two times so that the nappy hair it NOW attached to the lock....omg I hope this is understandable

  • I feel bad for you sistah.

  • Lent presented itself in my home when I 'greased' my son's hair. We do not sleep with bonnets or tie our hair down in any way. I don't have them and the only thing different I did to his was use a natural product hair grease. the next day he had lint. products definitely attract them.

  • I have the same problem and I didnt notice it until i used the mix

  • @BIGMEKA106 Me too, I had what I thought was a lil gunk(turned out to be lint problem) but when I did the ACV and baking Soda Rinse... Depression Kicked my @ss. I should be sleep right now, but I be embarrassed with this problem, so Im up tryin to find solutions. When I saw this video I was like damn koko, I feel yo pain.

  • pls dont take them down but i know what you mean, i saw someone who brushes their locks so the lint wont stay in but good luck and stay blessed.

  • Sometimes the rise in lint is from the air and also from your clothing. So it's not your fault. I mean it's hard to figure where it happens. Try not to let it get to you too much. We all have it.

  • look at it under a blacklight. It will blow your mind....you can definately see if you are pulling lint out or not

  • I can totally empathize with u. I did the acv n baking soda n I'll be doggone if I didn't see all the lint n my head. I already knew it was there but it was gone until I did that...well disguised anyway. But imma have to tr quotianlights suggestion with the paul mitchell shampoo, between her, bronzegoddess n chescalocs u can learn somethings, those girls r the truth, but yes honey I know the feeln I want to cut em off when I see lint in my hair..uuuggghh

  • wow your hair has truly grown. <3 it

  • I have locs and I noticed that if you use a lot of products in your hair it holds lent. I stick with oils because it rinses better. I don't really have lent issues. I don't know all of what you use but maybe try just oils to keep your locs maintained.

  • I am going through what exactly what you are..I closely examined my locs in some light---and Im a lil over a year in my journey. And I wash/rinse my hair weekly...I recently just died them black. I think i just came to my realization that locs arent perfect, no matter how much love we put in them. Take the good with the not so good, make the best of it. Because you've done the best you could to groom them, its just one of the quirks that we gotta deal with (sad face). Love you koko

  • i learned in a video (idk who's or how long ago) that permanant marker can help disguise some of that lint we don't like.

  • HI KOKO MISS your vids come back!!!!! 8-)

  • The ACV/baking soda clean up....and revealed /highlighted the lint problem even more....so we got cleaner....and more transparent....find ur peace with girl!!!

  • Yes I figure this was common, no matter how often u wash etc. my back locs have the lint build up the most, such as urself, now I have use a needle end to pick out the lint but its become the structure where its formed, removing it has open the loc and restart the begins of the process, however the lint maybe up higher on the loc, soooo its far gone....u chose, dye, trim, pick out, or just chill...we are perfectionist and this will stress our flow, but sista pls locing is not perfect find peace

  • i had this happen when i did a baking soda cleanse and the baking soda ended up getting stuck all in my latched locs. i was beyond frustration too but just had to give in after weeks of acv-ing to just dye them and accept it. its eiher takedown or going crazy or dyeing.

  • thank you for sharing. i've noticed this in my husband's locs. I've tried to keep him lint free.

  • Nooooo! Koko, please do not take down your luscious locs! You have been my loc inspiration for as long as you have been on youtube and started your locs! dont quit now! Please, your locs are absolutely gorgeous! Keep them oiled and dyed if you can't find any other solution! God bless you in your loc journey and even on your down/bad day you still look phenomenal

  • I hope one of us dread heads can find something.

  • I use a lot of olive oil to hide it.

  • I just went through this Saturday.I cut them a couple of weeks ago, just to cry because I can't do my favorite style.I told you a while back that I Hate lint and its not going any where. If you found something let me no.God Bless

  • i recently BC'd again...been itching for a change and i had been locked two years...so i was ready to cut 'em. when i did, i found that i had lint like nobody's business in my locs. i mean like crazzzzyyyyy. and my hair i kept clean, diligently, and it was healthy and growing well, etc. don't feel bad. it's nothing that you did or didn't do. it just happens sometimes. i saw the lint when i looked inside the cut locs not on my locs. your locs are STILL beautiful!! <3

  • I have many friends with beautiful locs and I wanted to get locs myself but LINT stopped me, so I 100% understand your frustration. It's a common problem and all my friends dye their hair, seems to be the most popular solution.

  • Koko, if you want to try a great clarifying shampoo, get you some Knatty Dread Shampoo. Yeah that's right KnAtty Dread not Knotty Dread. It is the bomb. I also use their loc cream. I guess I don't get build up from the cream because the shampoo does a good job cleaning my locs. My loctician loves it. Just go to Knatty Dread.com if you want to order some. If you try it I will be interested in how you like it. Your my inspiration so please don't cut those beautiful locs.

  • Hello You should not use white towels to dry off when u get out the shower or even when u wash ur hair I say pick them out one by one it will loc back up within 3 daays trus me i know vinegar is not going to do it when u have locs certain things u just cant do no more like sleep on cotton pillows without a headscarf. I had to do that 4 a while WRAP UR HEAD UP AT NIGHT MAKE SURE ALL OF THEM R IN THE SCARF MONITOR UR COLORS OF CLOTH U USE ON YOUR Hair WHEN U WASH IT K. DONT CUT THEM

  • I know you are upset. I see the pain. I have been loc'd for two years and my girlfriend is loc'd too. She had this issue and what I had to do is gently pick out the lint which meant taking down each "lint infected" loc :) I would suggest taking down a few locs at a time and start a new loc. It will take a little time depending on how many locs you decide to do but we do now patience as loc'd people. I promise you it will be okay and with time, you will have lint free locs in the back.

  • I'm not sure if you received my response to this video. But have you tried Dawn Dishwashing Detergent as a way to get rid of the lint. It may be more of a preventative measure, but may help with the current lint. I hope this helps. I do not want to see you take down your gorgeous locs if there is a way to get the lint out without doing so:-)

  • Hey Kokofemme,

my daughter with 18m old locs had the same problem. I actually used vodka and applecider vinegar in a spray bottle and let it sit for about 30min. While at the same time putting the baking soda paste on her hair. Also my loctician recommends hot oil treatments in the summer. I did this process on my daughter twice for two months and it took care of the problem. Hope this helps...no need to take down your locs.

  • awwww....the bakingsoda and deep cleaning is what is bringing the lint to the surface.....i am terrified of lint and buildup and deep clean weekly

dont stress out....hair dye will mask it or you can use bentonite clay mixed with baking soda to a paste and lemon juice a few times to keep it moving out....it will push out soon

  • This may sound a little crazy but my mom has had locs since i was born (going on 18 years) and when she has buildup (and when I had my first set of locs that had lint buildup) my mom would boil vinegar in a huge pot and would stick her locs in it, not up to the scalp of course because that would hurt haha...but the buildup..lint and ALL would come flowing out...hope this helps.

  • I did that recently and there was soap in my hairline and I discovered this may very well be the culprit to this buildup. I always use Cold Pressed virgin coconut oil which is also good for thickening locs at the root if it begins to thin because the weight of the loc. But as a rule. Keep the locs oiled an moisturized and you should not have many problems.

  • Hello Koko.I have locked my hair 3 times on and off for about 13 years it is an unavoidable problem esp. for the ones in the back you do not see. One thing I make it a point to Never use anything white or creamy in your hair. Always use clear and very light oil and clear conditioning shampoo. One thing I noticed recently and had an a-ha moment regarding the lint in the back is when you shower and you wash your neck, check your hairline along the nape of your neck before you leave the shower.

  • It maybe the conditoner you use with the combination of the type of pillow you sleep on. Some pillows will put lint in the hair with a build up from products. I know, it happened to me.

  • I feel your pain Sistar trust me I feel you... My locs are 2years 8months old and I was horrified to see the lint in the ends of my locs so i got the needle and picked at the lint and in the process picked out my locs in the futile bid to get out the dreaded lint this was a few months ago and now I have mature locs and at the ends i have frayed locs which i have to re twist every time i wash my hair its a sad affair for me I could do with some advice in this area thank you for posting God bless

  • Please don't remove the locs, they are beautiful.

  • no lint no lint it looks like soapy build up squash, head forward lots of rinsing with straight up hot water and cool water after wards, your shampoo is the culprit and squeezing to dry with towel. dye them now tho and let rinsing always be your 15-20minute friend, so it wont happen again. Your hair is beautiful, just beautiful

  • I feel ya boo! I've been ready to take mine down! Lint comes from clothes, the headrest from the car seat, the couch...EVERYWHERE! That's why I did loc extensions in the back, because I had lint and buildup and the ACV and ACV/BS rinses did NOTHING! Now, I just try to make sure I seriously cleanse and squeeze my locs when I shampoo and try not to lean my head back on stuff. It's even worse when you see others w/locs, and their's looks lint/buildup free! I'm w/you KOKO!

  • I saw another viideo and she thought she had lint after she did the clay treatment but she said it was root ends. Maybe this is what you have,

  • Hey Koko, my mom is a loc rocker too and she suffered the same issue as well. Her remedy was to put on her bonnet as soon as she got home because the lint comes from a variety of things. She also dyed her locs black. She had brown and blond hues prior.

  • Please don't cut them they are so beautiful and you the lint is not that visible. Have you ever tried steaming your locs? Like using the Huetiful steamer. I haven't tried it on my locs yet but about 2 yrs ago I read that steaming locs helps with moisture and deep cleaning. I personal haven't tried it yet but I will:)

  • You are sooo beautiful and your locs are fierce!! The lint factor does tend to happen with a few in the back of your hair. It comes from the locs hanging and resting on your clothing, sweaters, towels, etc. Try wringing them out after washing and not using a towel. Also, pick out the lent with tweezers. Hope this works hun..Peace and love!!!

  • Hey Koko!!! I love your locks & vids!!! Personally, i dont think we can avoid the lint. ITS EVERYWHERE! LOL *hope i made u laugh or smile* But really, dont sweat it. Lint is on our clothes, towels, others ppls clothes & towel, etc. And by us being natural, i believe sometimes our hair snags fabrics & thangs. Give your locs a good cleansing & if it doesnt work... Dont worry about it

  • Hey KOKO if it was me I would be ready to do the same thing... but there has to be a solution to this dilemma. I would turn over every stone before I would cut my locs. Because getting to the point ur at now took somet ime and doing the journey all over...well I wouldn't want to start from the beginning that's just me... Ur hair is sooo pretty some people would kill just to get were you are now lint and all so keep ur chin up.

  • i am so sorry this is happening to u, have sisterlocks and i have lint in my back two bottom rows to, and i ahve also tried to pick it out only to destroy a lock or two, love you girl and ihope u dont HAVE to cut off ur locks, they are so pretty!!!

  • i pray you find a solution that you will like, loc maintainence is different for evey individual...keep on keeping on, don't give up, but if you do decide to cut, it will grow back!!! love ya, you gonna be aight!!! God Bless.

  • im sorry this has happened, buildup and lint were the reason why i cut mine off last year. as i've regrown and started over, i was goin to one place that used a lot of product and stuff on my locs to start them over, as i saw the build up starting to return i found someone else. she uses no product at all in my hair. she just washes it with paul mitchell peppermint teatree shampoo and then palm rolls and doing rod sets, no product at all...this has been very helpful for me.

  • OMG, First I want to say it will be ok. 2nd I know exactly how you are feeling because I went through the the same thing, but was fortunate enough to see the lint build up before it got too out of hand. I did use a rattail comb to undo the bottom of my locs to get it out and some of my locs here shortened in the process. Hopefully through research you will find something that will work better than that. Keep you head up sistah. Bless

  • Honey! No one will ever notice that unless they get right on ur head. But I knw thats not the point. U notice it and it bothers u and thats fair. My suggestion. Wash ur hair more often. Also, start picking out lint on the ends of ur locks. The lint in the middle of the loc is just lint that has grown and been groomed into the loc overtime. Also, you can dye them black which wont hurt the hair. Or overlay them with hair weave. I knw thats not the cool thing to do, but it works. Goodluck boo.

  • Hey sis . . . It could be the clothing you wear. Also I am really into washing my hear with Giovanni clarifying shampoo AND conditioner. I had the same problem. I have never tried ACV RINSE and my hair is NOW without lint!!!!!! Love you much . . . stay positive.

  • We are perfect through our imperfections. IMO there are larger things to be worried about. Having my hair loc'd for the past 6 years has given me so much freedom. When I think about all the time I "wasted" over my lifetime being concerned about hair it makes me sad.

  • I love you videos. Your locks are beautiful. I was checking around on YouTube to see what I could find to help out. I found a good video from 108locs who did a method by barbaydian261. Check out 108locs about giving your locks a bath. Hope this helps. If I have misspelled any names it is not intentional. Take care.

  • its not that your locs are dirty but lint is is apart of having locs. One trick is not to use a towel bc it will leave lint in your hair but use an old cotton t shirt. or if you use a towel use a dark towel.........also your locs are very beautiful

  • you are so cute! They are still beautiful..don't be discouraged...I'm sure others don't even notice it....be encouraged...they are beautiful !

  • I wouldnt cut them off just because of that. Locs are a commitment and I suffer with lint, but I learned to get used to lint because unfortunately, lint is a part of our everyday lives. Just hang in there.

  • Just wanted to say I totally feel you in this video!! I have the same issue. It's super frustrating and makes me want to just give up and shave my head. I've had my locs for 10 years. They're barely bsl, so since I'm convinced they won't be floor length anytime soon (my dream goal), I'm going to give up the length goal and cut it into a cute style. That'll take care of the buildup I have in the same place as yours. Looking forward to an update video.

  • Your hair is beautiful! I can see how much care and love you have put into your locs and if anything I admire them! I can understand your frustration, because my locs have brought me to this point serveral times, but for evey problem there is a solution.

  • Ok Koko..grab my hand...take a few steps back from the edge of the bridge...wait your hair is wonderful and DONT jump! **sighs** Do some research talk to some professionals but do not jump...whew! Let us know how it goes...

  • Hey Ms. KoKo, idk if u came 2 this realization yet or if someone else might have mentioned it, but the lint is probably coming from your clothes wen your hair is resting on your shoulders.

  • Ms KoKo please don't be frustrated with your hair. It is still so beautiful. I think a little situation like that (and I do mean little, because its not all over your head) is to expected when you have locs. The same way you feel about the lint in your hair is the same way I feel about the few grays I have in mine (lol). Its probably from when you wear your hair down and they touch your shirt. I really dont think that its worth starting over...U still fly.

  • I tried the same things the acv rinse and a needle. I haven't checked it in awhile. Im sure you will find a solution so I will keep watching.

  • Feel your pain along with some other hair issues. But because you and other loc heads I watch on you tube I stay inspired to learn how to manage my locks. My texture is a mixture of soft and curly in some areas and thicker in other spots. So my hair gets extra fuzzy. I was going to cut and start over but I changed my mind I love my locs.

  • koko i feel your pain. i'm only 14months into my loc journey and i noticed about 3 months ago that the back two rows of my locs have lint build-up. it's like it appeared out of no where.....i've been contemplating cutting my locs, but i know if i do....i probably won't start over and i really, really want to continue on this journey. but after doing some research....i can't find not one person who doesn't have lint in there locs....guess it's part of the territory....sigh....

  • Koko I've been following you sincel before I started my locs almost two years ago... I really want to give you a hug... like a big hug!!! Sorry you are going through this but I would not cut your locs... there has to be other options... DON'T TAKE THEM DOWN OR CUT THEM... LOVE AND HUGS sis....

  • Say it's not so! I just spoke of wanting to lock my hair, and I watched you today and now I'm having doubts. Koko, you were my lock motivation! I think your just frustrated. Please don't cut them, there has to be a way to get the lent. Good luck, I will be watching . P.s I might still get mine twisted ;) God bless

  • Please, please, please don't cut your locs they are beautiful and so are!

  • Aww honey, I can feel your pain :-(. Please don't cut your locks, they are still beautiful. I don't have locks but I can assume a little lint is to be expected. Just take the advice of others and color them and use different colored towels to camouflage it. Start fresh from here on. But please, please don't cut them !!! You have taken excellent care of your locks, can you image the results if you hadn't cared for them as much as you did :-)

  • I don't Kno anyone that doesn't have lint in their locs..I saw someone say they just put a rinse on em and it colors the lint so u don't see it!..but u will be ok and ur locs are beautiful!

  • Koko ur locks look gorgeous.. my suggestion... Don't cut them!!!! Use a microfiber towel to dry your locks instead of regular ones cuz they dont get lint on then... And keep sleeping in a satin bonnet... But by all means don't cut them off... They are beautiful..

  • Hey miss Koko, lint has been around since the beginning of time, its just one of those things that will always be there.I also have a lint issue, but thats the least of my worries,I love your locs& I love you and theres not a thing u can do about it!!!!!Your hair looks greattttttt

  • I had the same problem. It hurts cause I wanted these beautiful locs tht everyone would love. I did pick to of my back locs a loose n oh my so much lint but tht thinned my locs and of course made it shorter. Then I said you knw what... I love them I have to be more careful. I really wonder if this is avoidable. oh about the water yeah I was treated like tht too :( if you do find something please share:)

  • Your hair is still beautiful!

  • e-hugs to you. I totally feel you on the locks but I think you are being too hard on yourself. Your hair is so beautiful. Lint is unfortunately a part of the lock journey. Your hair doesn't look dirty at all. I think you might be scrutinizing your locks too much. I have one lock in the back that has lint in it. I only see it though. My hair covers it up and I'm sure the same applies to you.

  • I am surprised that the professional that has assisted in your loc care has never addressed the lint issue. I don't have locs but I know how it feels to be disappointed in your hair and to have no idea how to remedy it. Good luck doll. I'm sure it will all work out for you.

  • I definitely can relate. But, I am determined to fight the lint/buildup. I have a few problem locs myself and tried using the sharpie marker. Chescaleigh's new video shows a better way of using the having soda and acv. I'm going to try using it her way at least every month. Good luck and stay uplifted :)

  • Koko...girl...I'm sending you a virtual hug.

  • Ms. Koko i was waiting to hear the WORST, i thought u had a breakage and thinning at the root problem....like me. All isnt lost. I have never had that problem and always wondered what it was in other people's locs. You WILL bounce back you'll see. We will all be laughing at this video in a couple weeks. Best of luck to you.

  • it might be some of the products ur useing or the dry towel ur useing cause white towels are a "no no" cause all of the lint,i had that problem to and what kind of head scarf are you wrapping ur hair up with? a cotton head scarf is a "no no" also..but you know what Koko locs are going to attract dirt and build up cause we sweat a lot in our heads so dont feel like its just ur hair cause i have seen some awful and i mean awful looking locs(just nasty!)so ur not alone...

  • AAAAAW!!! Woo wooo woooo!!!! I don't like seeing you like this. Truly frustrating and annoying. I had the same issue on a few of my locs after trying th ACV rinse. I ended up combing just the ends of my locs out and then retwisting the open ends to match the pattern of my loc. Fortunately, I did not have many. Locking is truly a journey and its not an easy road all the time. Hugs!!!

  • Your locs are beautiful and you KNOW they are clean based on your cleaning regimen. My daughter had loc build up and I used clarifying shampoo and squeeze shampoo suds into a towel before rinsing and try to rinse with a very powerful force water. I just now noticing (AFTER A YEAR) of doing this that her lint is out of the locks. Here is the hard part. I no longer use products on her locks. Just a light oil at retwisting. For me..I use Clairol grey semi perm and very little product.

  • @Cherished131 ~Also go to see a professional. Their water jets are stronger and this with the use of clarifying help break down lint to wash out of locs'. Think of it like this. When you wash your jeans over and over the cotton eventually breaks down. The same thing can happen to lint over time with strong powered washings and clarifyings. (Be careful because we don't want to break down our own hair fibers too). Give it some time first.

  • I am sorry for your trouble. If you still have them, I would dye that black and gradually trim them if it really bothers you. I would start using black or brown towels.

They take too long to get like they are and I would not destroy that. Think of it as a marriage that has issues. Do you kill the other? NO. Work with it, don't get rid of it. And definitely use dark towels.

  • Your locks look clean to me . I saw only a little lent on the bottom black one, but I think if you wash and deep clean every retwist the lent will eventuall come out. That is what I am going to do. I think the deep clean brought up the lent and that is a good sign because that means it is almost gone.

  • Use dark colored towels only when you dry your hair. White towels will definitely contribute to lint build up. Hang in there and good luck!

  • There is a solution! You're not the only one experiencing the problem, and your locs are gorgeous! Looking at things too closely for too long is always a risk, but don't unsettle your spirit. Good luck!

  • Hi u knw what me n my husband who is locked but conja bongo. Which is basically the bob marley style had a talk yesterday about mine which r baby's bout a year n half. And I complained about the frizzes. And we came to the conclusion like life they evolve and your olders 1s r just doing what they do. Now 1 thing is u shouldn't use white towels to dry your locks n that's to prevent lent build up. But I knw u will find a solution sista.

  • Aww girl, I hate that you are having issues cause I love your locs! Hope you find a remedy that works!

  • Stop using the Dr. Bronner's ASAP. Your conditioner may be contributing as well. What I did and still do from time to time is spray the ACV mixture that I use to cleanse my scalp directly on the my locs, concentrating on the trouble spots, making sure I squeeze it in and letting it set for 30-45 min. Right now I've diluted that mix but before it was not diluted. This will take several treatments.

  • It will get better, I know you will fiqure it out. God Bless Take care!!

  • I made the same discovery about a yr ago with locs and felt just about the same way. I was so disappointed bc I always cover my hair when I lay down. I don't wear certain sweaters in the winter. I thought for sure I was doing everything right to prevent a lint problem. But here I was discovering that most of my back locks were full of lint. I got over wanting to cut them off and colored my hair instead knowing that wasnt solving the issue just covering it up. Like my dirty little secret. SMH. H

  • This is a huge problem with locs a lot of people won't admit they have lint. In my last vid I showed my back row where I unpicked 2 of my locs cos of lint. As soon as I saw it in my hair like that I stopped using commercial products which really helped. Don't feel away about it though I felt like that. But seriously look at the products your using and change your wash routine. Most of us concentrate more on the front some of it is prob build up which u can get out with deep cleanse :)

  • I went through the EXACT same thing in my back/bottom row of locs . . . twice! Both times, I picked the affected locs out & starting them over. In retrospect, I would've tried something else instead of picking them out. I was just so frustrated back then! If it happened again, I'd do my best to loosen the lint & then do a semi-perm color over it.

Also, the culprit may be your clothing. I concluded my go-to gray sweater was mine. My locs would rub it and pick up fibers.

    Good luck!

  • .......product (GEL) 2 try a get my hair 2 loc faster and all it did was pick up lint and it does look different when its dry and in certain light .....and im thinking thats where i c ur @....!!!U R not alone.....and ya hair rubs ya clothes 2 so....& as much as i like my hair to b down and out.......up dos and head wraps 4 me soon....DON'T CUT'EM!!!! LoL

  • Awww, b encouraged.....i think we have this problem across the board hunny.....and yesssss in the BACK the most.....!!! But yeah i was hot when i noticed it 2, though i keep my hair jet black anyway, it still urks my nerves....i say mine come from pulling shirts over ya head, dust an lint flyin thru the air on a DAILY basis....& i use 2 wonder y people would sum times cover their beautiful lox with a head wrap.....NOW WE KNOW Y ! And most of mine is @ the tip like 5 " in where i would pack on

  • I talk to a friend of mind who has locs, and she does not have any lint in her hair (I checked real close LOL),,at first when she first got her locs she said she had tons of lint ,,, but after she cut them she said to avoid the lint she never wears her loc down or let her locs rub on her clothes. the only time she wears her locs down is when she has a special event, and right after she checks her locs for lint. A lot of work

  • Don't worry about lint...that is normal for locs...just dye them lint with your hair and viola!

  • i think its straight. i have the same problem with the lint. its bout 20 in da back lyk urs. every one i no with locks a sum lint. i think its jus going 2 happen. its ok i jjus deal with it. at least its no build up

  • I'm so sorry to hear that. That is very frustrating. I got so tired of how much rinsing I had to do when I did the baking soda/acv rinse and the bentonite clay that I stopped using styling products in my hair so I don't even have to mess with that stuff again. I had buildup and I rarely used styling aids. I was so upset I was wondering if I just need to not style my hair and just keep it wrapped up to avoid getting anything in it. So I feel your pain and I wish you weren't going through this.

  • You and your locs will survive and thrive, believe that. Your stylist should be able to work the lint towards the bottom whereby it can be plucked out. From here on I would advise to stay away from shea butter products if using. It doesn't wash out completely and draws lint to hair. Beware of when your stylist may use shea prod. I always bring my own prod just in case. As your hair grows, you can trim the buildup section off and not miss a beat and the length.

  • It'll be ok Koko. I'm eight months into the Loc journey myself. I sometimes feel that on certain days, I hate my locs. But for some reason, I think about those 25 years that I've been a prisoner of the "creamy crack", and somehow, I'd rather be on this journey of locdom. Be encouraged my sista; keep rocking your beautiful crown!

  • The lint is coming from you clothes Koko. I had the same issue with only the loc's in the back of my hair. So I went as far as taking one of my loc's down (not recommenced) and what did I find? A bunch of blue lint... I had a serious WTH moment the I realized all my work shirts were BLUE... working at apple had it perks but that definitely wasn't one of them. What I did to get the lint out of the rest of my loc's was soaking my hair in a mix of water and peperment soap weekly for about a month

  • Aww Koko, I'm not used to seeing you like this.. it's going to be alright girl. Days like these happen. I understand your frustration because I seem to have some locs that are doing the same thing. Your locs are so beautiful. I don't want to see you part with them. I'm sure you will find a method that will remedy the problem.

  • Do a search for bentonite clay treatment. I;ve seen some amazing things on youtube

  • Awww Koko! I'm not a loc girl but I think yours look so nice. I hope you figure something out, I always enjoy looking at your creative hairdos. I think if you cut them, ultimately you may miss them. So think hard girl! :)

  • Oh ma...don't be sad.. we all have those days.....for one reason or the other.....cheer up!!!

  • Hang in there sis, I LOVE your locs!

  • Do you think it is the baking soda? It looks like it

  • Hey Koko, the lint build up is from clothes. Locs rubbing against Tshirts, sweaters, hats etc. It happens to all of us loc heads. I'm coloring my locs tomorrow to get rid of the dirty lint look. Your hair is gorgeous ... Do not cut your lovely locs!

  • I had that problem when I went to a hairdresser regularly. They used heavy, thick products to hold the lock together. I got it dyed and It didn't cover the lint. When I started doing my own hair , I interlock mostly now and that stopped being a major problem. I hope you can find a solution to the problem without cutting your lovely hair. Oh and when I do retwist I use clear aloe vera gel. God Bless.

  • A lot of times it can come from your towel or the clothing you may wear. I have been told to dry your locs with a t-shirt and you can even dye your locs a darker color which may piss you off just cause, i would contact damianjw84 and asked him what he suggestes, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

  • I'm waiting for the video to load, but I hope the title is misleading and that you re-think the termination of your FAB locs<3

  • As a faithful subscriber, it broke my heart a little to see you upset! This too shall pass mama!! I watched a video on lint solutions and one lady did a natural dye - she said you could use black tea or coffee and make a natural rinse to dye the lint. I think black tea rinses also have moisturizing qualities for the hair so it could be good for you in more ways than one! Someone else said she used tweezers and picked them out! Please keep us posted, we care! #teamkokofemme!!

  • Im so glad you did this video. My locs are 3 years old, a little longer than yours & Im having the same problem right now. They are mostly in the back as well. I've been threating to get rid of them because of that misconception about locs not being clean. It makes me feel dirty. Its the hardest thing in the world to get out. I tried the needle thing as well, it just frays the locs and then I have to trim it. Its bad girl! Im hurt to. I dont know what to do. I feel your pain. Trust me! lol

  • Awww Mama:( Please don't get urself upset about it, it has brought down ur sweet spirit! Look, I feel the same way about my locs and at the end of the day I still love them! If you restarted ur locs you probably would love them the same way u did this set and lint may still happen. Dye them, and keep living, you are lovely!

  • luv u sis dont get discouraged !!! dot cut off ur beautiful babies ur the one that inspired me 2 get my locs i know that ive told u that but i wanted to tell u again cus i luv u sis #teamkokofemme!!!!

  • are u sure its lint? it could be build up from conditioner.

  • I feel your pain. I have some lint also. I just don't want people to look at my locs and be like oooh her locs are dirty. We as modern day loc heads want to educate people about locs and one thing we fight with the most is people not thinking we wash our hair. So I hope all goes well with your locs. I dye mine but I want to stop putting crap in my hair. I feel that the dye will do damage in the long run also. BUT ONE THING I WON'T DO IS CUT MY LOCS. I love my babies.

  • @creativesld Just wanted to pop in and say I watched a video about a woman who made a natural rinse - she said you could use black tea or black coffee to make a rinse to dye the lint, I've heard black tea rinses are good for moisture as well! An alternative to dyeing that you may want to consider, God bless!

  • Your locs are taking off Sis!!! I completely feel you on the "ashy" locs...and I have a few like this too. I tried the baking soda/acv rinse a few months ago and didn't really see any results either...it just made my hair dry so I decided to go back to clarifying shampoos and acv rinses. On a positive note, it's pretty common and your locs still look great! Keep up with the stages Sis, you'll find the best solution for you..I just KNOW it :-)

  • Awww my dear sister, please don't lose hope now, you are the reason why I am pressing with my locs, you have encouraged me so! We will NOT allow the devil to steal our peace! Not to make "light" of the situation, but I try to look at it as lint being a "natural" fiber clinging to my "natural" hair! We are our own worst critics. I think you are beautiful and your locs are beautiful! Keep pressing my sista!

  • Your locs are beautiful!!! I have lint mostly in the locs at the back and they don't bother me. When im ready ill use the ACV or dye. As long as I know that im washing my hair regular and its clean- im good. I hope you don't decide to cut!

  • I understand what your going through Koko; they say black towels are best to pat your hair dry so that the lint from white towels dont show. Similar to your situation, I dont like my hair looking dusty so from time to time I dye my hair black and no lint! :) (Hope this helps)

  • I think you're just having one of those days... your locs look great, lint and all:) Seriously, I wouldn't make an major decisions just yet. I took down my locs about a year ago and I've been a lost soul ever since:( I'm happy with my hair now but I really put my dome through a lot in just one yr. Do one of your beautiful curly styles and you might forget all about the lint and fall in love with your locs all over again:)

  • Your locs are so long! Beautiful!

  • yeah i looks like you have to dye it black its the only way to fix it without cutting or messing up your locks i also thinks a fresh coat of jet black will liven up your locks a bit

  • :0( Im so sorry youre going thru this KFemme :0( I pray you can get the lint out

  • Awww Ms. KoKo you made me sad watching this. I honestly don't know what to tell you seeing that I've only been locked for 9 months but I hope you don't take down you hair just because of that one back row. Just try different methods and be encouraged that you didn't do anything wrong...sometimes hair just does its own thing.

  • I notice build up @ the ends..cause when we first start our locs we used products...but for a 2 yrs now I haven't used any product in my hair..but natural oils..and I haven't had any problems per say....the acv and baking soda does fizz alot and is has nothing to do with amt. of build up..it fizzes due to chemical reaction..... also brushing your locs help control lint

  • I've had my locs for almost 10 years and lint is a normal thing with locs. It's inevitable. There is no real way to avoid it. It bugs me sometimes, but my locs are still FLY. So are yours.

  • Awwwwww, Koko I been down with you since my first Loc! I hate to see your energy low :( I know that you will come through this with a Fist in the air! Love & Light

  • you have to realize that our hair attracts lint. unless you are monitoring what you sleep on, what you dry you hair with, and what fabrics you wear, there isn't a way to avoid getting lint in the back of your hair. not trying to be rude or anything, but it the reality of having locs.

  • aww I don't like to see you sad like this :( I do have a question though have you ever thought about being natural without locks? There are a lot of great videos on youtube on how to do that. My daughter has 3b/4a hair and I 've been watching lots on how to maintain it. Your beautiful either way doll. Keep your head up and hope you find a solution :)

  • I am soooooo feeling this video! Went on a lint rampage earlier this year that resulted in cutting several inches after I called myself trying to pick the lint out, MISTAKE!

  • i have the same problem with "the back row". i didnt notice it in my hair until atleast 2.5 years into it. i think it comes from your shirts and things like that. i dye my locs black anyway so i make sure i dye that row extra good! its okay, dont stress over it!

  • Aww, Koko :-\ I so wish I could do something to help you. This made me sad.. I hope you keep the locs though.. they're so incredibly beautiful. However, whatever you decide to do.. I'm sure it'll be just great. *Big hugs*

  • YOU know your locs are clean. YOU know you take good care of them. Worrying about what other people think about them seems to be a large part of what's upsetting you. The dye idea sounds really good. The lint is only cloth fibers that have hitchhiked on your locs. In the end I hope you find a good solution that works for you. Your locs are beautiful, lint or otherwise. Feel better please. HUGS :))))

  • I don't have locs but natural hair, and I ONLY dry with tee's.... never a towel noooo..... hope this helps.

  • Regarding lint, Nerissa Irving SPOT TREATS her lint by dying it black to match her hair. Maybe that would work for you. Good luck with your locs. I hope you keep them. :)

  • The most practical thing to do is to dye the back couple of rows black/brown to blend in the lint [unless you really want to go through the trouble of taking them down! o.0], and just being extra watchful of what fabrics/clothing items are rubbing against your locks. I know for myself angora is a no-no [unless it's black or I have my hair up]. I think your locks are lovely and I enjoy your Loc Chronicles. Hope it works out.
