I was 16 when this album was released. It changed my life...I love it today at the age of 42. Thank you, thank you, Mark Hollis, you genius. This one song encapsulates so much of my life.
Radiohead's Uncle certainly showed them a thing or two on the trick of making truly beautiful music (as in NOT POP SHITE) and absolute absorption of the human psyche within the dimension of sound. We are all alone.............together. hello.
i remember listning to this album when it first came out.i was shagging my friends mum at the time,,lol,,,,i was 20something..we played it over and over,,this is a stand out album for me,pure class,
The Colour Of Spring is very scary...scary good. Not often an artist (or group of artists) delivers so complete and integral a concept. A perfect package; beginning to end. God! I love this album so fucking much...Mark Hollis is quite obviously a musical genius. Wish they were still recording.
Well said and I agree with your keen observance. This album is a masterpiece of musical intelligence. It's a shame that they're mainly known for a couple of hits, because they are so obviously more deserving of accolades and appreciation. A tight, complex, enigmatic band. Genius is right!
Amazing, amazing, truly amazing song, it gets to the core of me every time still and never ages ever since I bought the single back then are hurried home excited as fuck to play it on my turntable. : )
In my late 30's I would shout up to my 14 year old son's bedroom " turn that !$£*! noise down !" Gradually I became hooked and now he's older than I was then and moved on but I'm still playing Talk Talk !
I was 28 - My life was in a shambles and I was trashed, every night. What I wouldn't give for those days again, and this music....The best years of my life. A passion one seldom finds, in music or anything else, these days. Everything's become so safe and formulaic and smug and cynical and remote-controlled - The corners and sharp edges have all been padded. Life's about all the fuck-ups, paper-cuts and ass-kickings that let you know you're still breathing and above-ground. Simply. Lovely. Song.
I`m 48 and still love this album, my life is still a shambles and great fun! You only have yourself to blame if you`ve got sensible, there are no rules, roll a fat one and turn it up
@WasabeJoe Couldn't agree more son. The I Pod generation are suicidal if they haven't receive a text message for thirty seconds. Richer materially, poorer spiritually. And they missed out on music before it was prepacked.
On December 24 at 8:00 in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Johnson was found dead. Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his emails to see if she could figure out what happened. Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter. If you don't repost this to six videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. Sorry don't want to die

This has to be one of my mose favourite pieces of music EVER! astonishing album i never tire of listening to the colour of spring. Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful! The use of the hammond organ is truly spine tingling and Marks mesmerising vocals are astounding

And that harmonica sounds sooooooo fine!!! This song has a lot of soul. Interesting how there's a poignancy and a cool groove happening simultaneously. Love this track - thank you for posting!
same with me; despite being quite monotonous, it's almost impossible to get tired of. The small details; the cymbals, the electr guitar in the background, the modulations, the lyrics, the acustic guitar harmonies... I think they have gotten way too little credit for this one. This album is classical and this fantastic Hammond organ is so typical for Steve Winwood - maybe that could be a reason why the songs of this album works so great - I'm never going tired to listen to this songs - they are perfect. Greetings from slideede
Others have said it, but I'll just reiterate it once again. This WHOLE album is good from start to finish.
No..let me rephrase that. Great. monumental, epic, awesome, pick any adjective you want , but this collection of music is one of the finest you'll find any where-bar none!
Hello my friend. "Soundtrack of my life"...I agree mine too. It's such a great album that I never get tired of it. Brilliant lyrics, awesome music, it just simply has everything. Talk Talk is/was a phenomenal group. I was 19 in 86' and I can relate totally.
As stunning now as it was to me when i was 16. I appreciate this track even more today and i can't help listening to Colour of spring almost every day.
I just love this song .Im 41 now and this can still gives med the chill down my spine as well.I guess is heís voice is just so awesome .Been hearing them live in copenhagen in the eighties ,with Depeche mode as well,it was awesome :)
I still have this very version somewhere in my loft, has to be one of my favourite songs & bands from the 80's, doesn't get any better, sends me to heaven & back.
@MrMusicman488 Sure, but Justin Bieber rules the world..LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! Seriously though, I'm from the 80's generation so I know what you are talking about. I don't know HOW they make music these days without any riff or melody. My favourite band is actually Simple Minds.
Better than the single version as you get more of the superb harmonika. Think this and Life's what you make it are by far their best tracks. I used to like the track "It's my life" until it was played to death on the radio stations.
In 1986 I was posted to Port Stanley for 4 months. This album was on my sony walkman and kept me going for one of the most boring periods of my life!! Great band, hope the do a reunion tour like all the others.
Shivers down my spine when the Hammond organ joins. And shivers again when they change key at 'help me... find a way from this maze.
I was too young to recognize the sheer beauty of this song back in 1985. Now i'm 36 and this song keeps me awake with its haunting harmonica, the subtle acoustic guitar and the vocals that go straight into the core of any being..
@rocktechstudio Couldn't agree more. Bought the album on holiday in Portugal in '82, I think. It blew me away. Wore the cassette out in the end. Now have it on CD. I'm 48 now and still listen to it. Nothing better than switching off the light, putting this track on loud and being transported off to another world. Gives me goose bumps and makes me come over all emotional!
That Hammond organ is haunting isn't it? The changes in tempo, the harmonica. My goodness could a song be any better. These guy's are criminally underrated. I'd put Talk Talk against most any band and feel that they would blow the others away musically! I agree with your comment. In 1985 I was to immature to realize the genius of this music, but I've come around for certain. I have all the TT 'albums'.
Get their Live In Montreux DVD, you won't regret it.
@hannibalsdisco Winwood is famous for his organ playing. He is not only a solo artist but also works as a studio musician. So maybe he was booked and played the hammond organ for them? At least he did it for Phil Collins ("All of my life").
One brilliant song from the 3rd & best album from TT.
Maybe what I like the most from them is how well they blended magnificent lyrics & wonderful music and also the fact that they never sold themselves but instead were more creative & experimental in each new album (just hear "Laughing Stock" to know what I mean)
Ten years old when i decided, 'i like this Man singing' i said to my dad.' I was born in 1986, and to this day i think; WOW - there is such a greatness about Hollis that i find so hard to shred and find the same feeling in today's rubbish.
This takes me back to living in Southend-on-Sea, just broke up with a fantastic girl, walking the sea front listening to this amazing album on my Walkman and realising that life could still be good, bitter-sweet i think. Thanks for posting.
It's been twenty years since I've heard this song and my god I have to admit I'm trembling. Makes me want to run out and get the CD and a good set of earphones.
epoustouflant!!!! toutecette magie de la bonne musique qui vous donne envie d'en vouloir non stop!!!! a decouvrir ou redecouvrir de toute urgence!!!!!
...only angels look before they tread. What a truly wonderful song - and for me still evoking the agony, complexity and questions left when a deep relationship has gone wrong.
did you ever have a favourite song when you were younger ??
for me a favourite song would always have been something recent, which i'd soon discard and forget. this, however, has always remained my single favourite track over 20 years later.
I was 16 when this album was released. It changed my life...I love it today at the age of 42. Thank you, thank you, Mark Hollis, you genius. This one song encapsulates so much of my life.

Ten years old when i decided, 'i like this Man singing' i said to my dad.' I was born in 1986, and to this day i think; WOW - there is such a greatness about Hollis that i find so hard to shred and find the same feeling in today's rubbish.

It´s not the album only, ist the music, the music is magic, it´s the voice, a trip into my holy soul without any drugs

This takes me back to living in Southend-on-Sea, just broke up with a fantastic girl, walking the sea front listening to this amazing album on my Walkman and realising that life could still be good, bitter-sweet i think. Thanks for posting.

Surprised nobody has pointed out how amazing Mark Feltham's harmonica playing is on this. Guess it goes without saying

I heartily second that! This is one of the most awesome harmonica riffs I've ever heard--it gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it!

It's been twenty years since I've heard this song and my god I have to admit I'm trembling. Makes me want to run out and get the CD and a good set of earphones.

Did I see tenderness where you saw hell
Did I see angels in the hand I held
God only knows what kind of tale you'd tell
I'm living in another world to you...........
Sounds like a onesided relationship......
Love the song!!!!!!

...only angels look before they tread.

This song is Immaculate Sonic Perfection, much like the entirety of Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.
