To "Kaleidaoperator: i study history, i live in the south and the issue was SLAVERY. it was an underlying issue but very much was the MAIN CAUSE. The south was going to secede because it wanted to continue to practice the inhumane institution of slavery. The CivilWar was bound to happen. The south was deeprooted in its ways, not wanting to acknowledge what was written many yrs before in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal.
They never told us about this in school: Corwin Amendment:in 1861 the Corwin Amendment was intended to prohibit the Congress from banning slavery in those states whose laws permitted it. the newly formed Confederate States of America was totally committed to independence, and so it ignored the proposed Corwin Amendment.
Outgoing President James Buchanan publicly endorsed the Corwin Amendment and Abraham Lincoln, in his first inaugural address, said he did not oppose the Corwin Amendment
Lincoln's Daughter, the last in the Lincoln Out of Time trilogy of novels released through Portland State University's master in publishing program imprint Ooligan Press, follows a time-traveling Abraham Lincoln to 1955. Years later, a daughter he conceived on that journey strives to be reunited with him.
what you call "your country tearing itself apart" is a very legal, moral, smart, and necessary thing to do. most of the states that seceded had clauses when joining that they could leave at any time. the founders of the union intended for it to be voluntary and an agent for the states. not the other way around.
there is no unity in your forced union and it WILL NOT last forever. enjoy it while it does cause its almost over. weve had it! youve gone too far! even the yanks hate you now!
Hey Arik . We did have every legal right to secede, that's why they couldn't hang anyone for it...they wonted to. I know the United States did a lot of bad things during the Civil War like the "march to the sea" and it was backed by Lincoln...and it was wrong!! It was desperate times and the war would have gone on for many more years if not for it...and the outcome would have probably came out the same, but with a lot more dead people.
I am a southerner and I love my southern heritage but I realize who ever was in office at that time would have been in a very bad place, Lincoln said himself "if there's a worse place than hell, I'm in it."
all lincoln would have needed to done to end the war was withdraw his invaders. my people did not want war. all we ever wanted is freedom and liberty and the right to manage our own affairs.
I agree with you...and you seem to know your history. I just don't think our country would be as great as it is if it was divided. this is a great country...believe it or not ...name a better one. I can't. A lot of people think if the south would have won everything would be so wonderful but people dont like government, government takes money and they get it from the people. When you get down to it the Civil War like the Revolutionary War was about taxes.
usa is not a country! it is a union held togeather at gunpoint! before there ever was a usa there was the country of South Carolina with John Rutledge; the first president in america. did all the countrys in Europe cease bein countrys when they joined their european union?
we like government, just not your theivin federal one. I like my South Carolina governmant just fine. they aint perfect but theyre the patrion saints of righteousness and honesty compared to the feds.
ill never look at Johonny Cash the same. I really wish I hadnt heard that.
half of what "honest abe" said is a lie. he was a bloodsucking lawyer and railroad tycoon who was talented in speech, deception, and betrayal. he was the first president to basically throw the constitution out the window. he incarcerated politicians and press that opposed them and was a leading proponent of deporting non-whites.
An excellent production! Johnny Cash's reading of the Gettysburg Address was terrific and your video was perfect! A wonderful tribute to our 16th. President! I enjoyed it very much... FrAnK (★★★★★)

Since you study history, then you know that the Declaration of Independence was written by a slave owner.
Thanks for your comment.
