  • My hubby enjoyed seeing the Boating Pond at the end of Canada Grove. He spent many a happy hour there and in it (usually falling in). Sad to see St John's Church - not there now. Excellent to see the Pier Pavillion. I remember when the end of the pier fell down in a storm.

  • Does anyone know what the music is to this video?

  • @sam090875 Spiegel im Spiegel - Arvo Pärt.

  • @Zonnebril70 The first 4 minutes anyway. The rest I don't know.

  • plus i worked on the Sea Front

  • its got Timothy Whites on the film I worked there ha ha

  • Magical, thank you!

  • Brilliant footage, having lived in Bognor Regis for most of my life it brought back fond memories. Many a bus was waited for at the old bus station where my dad worked. The old Esplande Theatre I loved (they should never have demolished that. It interesting to see the 'New Queensways shops' loved it!

  • Thanks for uploading this video

i have lived in bognor almost all my life and its great to see what it used to be like

  • Does anyone remember a huge coin operated horse named 'Carousel' - again, she was on the pier in 1996, but I wonder if she had been elsewhere in Bognor before this? I have never seen another like her - I have a photo but Youtube won't let me post links in comments anymore. I would be VERY grateful for any information or photos people might have relating to this horse or the other old coin operated rides of Bognor Regis. Once again, thanks so much for uploading this!

  • Oh my goodness, thank you so much for uploading this! I am seeking information on old coin operated rides and spotted the two at 'kiddies corner' - a spaceship and a helicopter made by Edwin Hall & Co in the 1950s. There were rides exactly like these (along many other old rides) on Bognor Pier in 1996 - I have photos of myself riding them as a child - but they were ALL gone by 1997. :(

  • PS. See all that shingle on the beach? It was put there by the council to prevent erosion of the sea wall.

When I was a kiddie you could stand on the prom and look way down at the sand far below.

If you stand facing the remains of the pier and look to the beach on the right, there is another promenade level about 8ft down. It's been buried by shingle for decades.

Shingle is cheaper than repairing the sea wall..........

  • I was born in Bognor and a very different place it is now to what it was when I grew up there. We had a council with delusions of grandeur and ideas above their station. "Pull it all down and we'll make a really nice seafront", they said

Having demolished the best part of the seafront, they ran out of money and the reality was "pull it all down and sell it to developers to build retirement flats"

    I even remember the Shoreline!!

At 2:54 there is a corner shop - my father's shop. Memories!!!!!

  • Wonderful....thank you for sharing it with us...

  • Amazing. Things have to change as all ways, but its a shame how things have changed in Bognor.

Born Bognor 1975, left for Oz 2010

  • Cant believe Bognor used to be like this, since Ive lived here its gone down hill so much and that's in the last 20 years. Maybe I would say good things about it if it was still like this.

  • I remember the cinema across the road from the railway station

  • I remember the cinema across the road from the railway station

  • What a great video. Much nicer place back then, nothing like the crap hole it is now? If only Bognor/Uk was like this still?

  • The theatre where the skate park is now was The Esplanade. I used to go there as a child and watch my Grandad perform as a conjurer.

Lovely to watch this, and see how crap Bognor is now.

  • Saw where I work today. The change is amazing.

  • @5:17 there is a theater i`m sure its where bognor skate park is on on the sea front can anyone confirmthis

  • thanks for posting.i will tell my dad about this video so he can see it.

  • We used to go to Bognor for our holidays in the early 60's and this brought back lots of memories. I have a b&w photo of my brother & I on those "racing cars" in the Children's Zoo at Hotham Park, now I know what colours they were!

It's just a shame the photographer didn't go to Munday's Caravan Park but you can't have everything. Thanks for posting.

  • It's really nice to see how Bognor was for my Dad and Grandparents back in the day. This video has such nostalgic beauty. It's sad that the pier is in such disrepair now and there is much less entertainment. Thank you for posting this!

  • the pier look a lot diffrent

  • I can remember Bognor Regis in the 50s & 60s. The entertainment was much better then. Three picture houses, Picturedrome/Odeon and the Theatre Royal/Rex Ballroom. The pier was much longer and housed a theatre. The prom had a couple of small indoor funfairs where you could ride the ghost train and bumper cars or have a laugh in the funhouse. All gone now, just a string of flats. At lease the Picturedrome cinema has been saved.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, From the bottom of my heart. This really moved me. my memories of the princess Elizabeth Yacht pond as a kid & Pets corner came flooding back. easyworship... U dun good. Thank you.

  • Thanks for this, I was born and bred in Bognor.

Having lived in Bognor until my twenties when my Wife, Daughter and I left for Australia (more than 40 years ago now) all this is very familiar. Thanks again for the trip down memory lane.

  • Oh wow... I see my place where I live in 60s mode. That is so cool. My place is next to that NO 1 Steyne Bar =)

  • Thankyou for sharing x

  • great stuff, really enjoyed it. The esplanade theatre brings back some memories. Shame the Rex had to go.

  • Really fascinating old footage. Rather sad Bognor has changed so much,

  • Thank You for sharing...really enjoyed it..

  • this video is so wonderful... my husband was born in Bognor Regis and we met there... can't wait to show him! Thank you!

  • OMG. i loved this video ,having lived in Bognor all my life , i was 8 at the time of the video and remmeber most of it , thats when Bognor had a town and many things to do , like the boating pool you sure , thats now a car park in the queens st, and i used to go for a night out at the Rex, i could go on but i wont. Bognor has gone down hill so much that i fell sorry for the youngters , theres not anything for them now .

  • that top coment isnot from Becky , but her mum .

  • Also someone having lived in Bognor Regis for most of my life... for me your vid is brill.. thanks! I feel and I am sure others do also, that Bognor Regis has over time been put down far far too often. All anyone needs to is realise is that we are all very lucky to live by such a wonderful coast and beach.

  • As someone who's lived in Bognor my whole life it's great to see how it used to be. My parents thoroughly enjoyed the video especially the boating lake in the Queensway and the pet's corner area of Hotham park, since they both vistied the area as children. Thank for the memories.
