I'm having trouble at the kboot part, when I enter install_ps3_1080p or any other resolution or even just press enter, it says error on device - "input/output error" even though I have an HD tv capable of 1080p and an HDMI cord, can someone explain what I did wrong and what I can do to fix it?

try fromat your hard drive like ps3 magic tells you to, try again do it step by step. ps3 magic is a great tutorial to make sure you make no mistakes on installing linux on your ps3. if you dont have it get it from ps3magic(dot)org

its not that hard to isntall linux on PS3, i just finished installing mine ;) i admit i got some help from PS3 magic. i mean that did everything for me :P you can find it at ps3magic (dot) org if nayone has problem like so. or just type ps3 magic in google. Good luck everyone with installation

PS3 Magic is ok, but it isn't disk loading solution - it is just a few PDF tutorials to make sure that you don't mess up. I guess it's fine for a n00b, but a more competent and confident person could gather the information elsewhere - You Tube for example!

i have put every resolution known to man!!! and it gives me the same message../init:eval:1: install_ps3_480i: not found..i have a standard tv...i have put 480i and 480p and 576i and p...and for t he heck we put all the other resolutions and it still didnt work...plz plz pleeeeze help!!!

ydl is a huge file the Ubuntu i installed was only 600 mb but this look more graphically pleasing than Ubuntu so im gonna try to install this over it

Try the other possible resolutions, possibly resulting in different effects depending on the actual resolution of your tv.

Try:

install_ps3_1080p

or

install_ps3_1080i

When I type in the command install_ps3_720p it does everything but then goes to a blue screen like in your video, but you edited it so I was woundering how long it actualy took because mine is still straight blue.

you have to put install_ps3_  and the 720p number is the resolution of ur screen. the same thing happened to me. so just put 480i instead.

OK, SO i recieved the converter from ebay lol, the keyboard did not work, but the mouse did, So what I did was I went to WALMART and got a new USB keyboard, and everything works fine! IM enyoying LINUX!

its a open source OS.  you basicly turn your ps3 further into a pc but dont expect to much as the nvidia creators have yet to give permission to it.

actually you can. turn it off. then turn the power switch off on the back of the console. then turn the power switch back on. then hold the ps3 'on' button until the second beep.

Yeah that will be fine. Just make sure you don't damage the screw heads when swapping them around.

how big has the USB stick / HD go to be to get the back up of the ps3 on it im sure i saw 14 GIGS in your video.. wil it be more or less the same for everybody ? and depending on saved videos and music !

Correct, my backup size was 14GB. But I have very little music and pictures etc stored. You can check your approx backup size by going into system settings > system information. Then you minus your free space from the total capacity. for example:

Free Space- 39GB/ 74GB. you would do 74-39= 35GB.

thanks for the quick reply ....... only reason im asking is because i upgraded my ps3 hard drive about a year back to a 320 gig drive... but have only got a 16 gig usb stick with no external usb hard drive .....

could i just put the old drive back in (40 gig) which came with the console and install linux to that, as this will be my FIRST linux ever.. if it goes back , just put the 320 gig drive back in, would it all be back to normall

Yes, about that. So you could possibly buy a 32GB memory stick- but there's a small risk with it being 31GB.

Just make sure you burn it 'as iso image'. Use burn aware to be safe.
