Einherjar = 'Those Who Fight Alone' [Old Norse]. These were the warriors who were slain in battle & were brought to Valhalla by the Valkyries.

According to 'Scandinavian Mythology' by Davidson [pg 37], "the young warriors whose helmets bear horns ending in eagles beaks' were the Einherjar, who have the mark of Odin. These were the special champions of the God from the Other World, acting as his faithful & courageous emissaries on the battlefield as they are said to do in the Edda..."
