Man, I remember living in Birmingham as a kid and chasing the freighters from Irondale down to the 42nd St crossing. The engineers used to get a kick out of us popping up at the other end of the hill.
I have done this before through Bluefield but with 2 SD40-2's. It was so much fun and I got so much great video but I have misplaced all of those videos :(
Well for a railroad that still has jointed rail the trains run smooth down that line.
Very nice video. I miss CSX, CONRAIL, CN&W, and the MG Super-7 locomotives. Northfork Southern to boring!!! Brownsville Pa is one cool place to watch train. I grew up not to far away from there in the mine patch town. Grindstone Pa. Redstone railroad made a connection in Brownsville. Those where the days of real heavy tonage coal trains...
It would be nice if Norfolk Southern would do some heritage units like the Union Pacific did. Would be nice to see some good ole southern green & southern black and gold comming down the line.
On the MGA coal trains are designated with an "N" before the symbol. Some trains on the East Division (this is shot on the West Division) are N10, N14, N21, and such. There is also a C26 local that shows up in the evening on weekdays.
Love that K5LLA

Another sad day for the railroad was when trains discontinued caboose usage.

What would be good is if they brought back Southern Railroad excursion trains.

@LionelKid16 I agree, but Id love to see NS repaint a pair of SD80s in Conrail blue. The Southern heritage units should have high short hoods.

If you go to Elizabeth, PA, which is 10 minutes outside of Pittsburgh, a CSX line has them running on the street as well.

Great shots. Just don't ever drive alongside a train on the street running trackage in West Brownsville, it's scary!

Awesome video, the Mon Line is a great line, decent amount of action, both with NS and CSX.

I love the shot at Mather, Pa. Where the train just pops out from behind the old depot.
