He is the only German officer I respect, besides Colonel Stauffenberg. Rommel is one of the only German commanders that didn't ever commit any war crimes in WWII. Rommel hated Hitler and the Nazis and he didn't want to have anything to do with the mass murder of Jews and that I respect him for.
Erwin Rommel the best swabian warrior! The Suebic kingdom in Gallaecia (modern Galicia) was established at 410 and lasted until 584. Smaller than the Ostrogothic kingdom of Italy or the Visigothic kingdom in Hispania, it reached a relative stability and prosperity and even expanded military southwards despite the occasional quarrels with the neighbouring Visigothic kingdom.
@Etay1993 Rommel is in my opinion the greatest soldier ever to have lived. His chivalrous conduct and superb abilities earned him the respect of Many allied commanders such as Churchill. Rommel never obeyed any of hitlers criminal commands and often didn't let orders such as the commando order leave his HQ.
I rank Rommel as one of the top heroes of WWII and you need to learn some respect and history while you're at it.
@gigi051000 If I remember correctly, it was to support Mussolini in Lybia, then Germanyy advanced into the diminished Commonwealth areas as far as Egypt.
rommel was loyal to the nazi regime and was definately not the best german commander. his reputation has been greatly inflated in order to build up the battered british reputation and morale in that period of the war and in order to try to seperate germanys military history from its nazi history.
The best general of ww2 was Erich Von Manestein. Its extremely unfortunate that they buried him with nazi swastikas even though he requested to be buried normally
No seriously. Erwin Rommel is the best WW2 general. Too bad he had such an idiot (Hitler) as his superior.
Sun Tzu said that a leader of state should never intervene with his generals.. The General is in the battelfield, while the leader is many miles away and knows little about the situation.
Hitler was sabotaging for his generals. (Churchill actually did the same msitake.)
Rommel really looked up to Hitler in the beginning. In his letters to his wife you can see the effect Hitler had on Germany's people, and what a skilled deceiver he was. Such loyal, brave, merciful men as Rommel are few and far between.
@Clonetrooper1139 in another life, Rommel and Patton could have been twins.
If both these men came back to life and looked at the poor state of the world, they would have wept and would have wished the world destroyed itself during WW2 instead of letting the world suffer as it is now.
@Frankcastle522 Rommel was an amazing person, wasn't he? How many men can be both saintly AND so incredibly gallant in battle? Such character is all but unheard-of nowadays...
Rommel, in my opinion, is the classic hero. Charismatic, daring, and with a love for his country, he put his own life on the line many times for Germany's sake. In both wars, I might add (look up The Battle of Longarone), he showed guile, initiative, and every other trait a soldier should. It is a shame that he was born when he was, because his name will be wrongly associated with Hitler and Nazism. I truly admire Rommel as a soldier, and as a person.
@DerKreuzitter I would further that by saying that Hitler on numerous occasions ordered Rommel to eliminate the Jewish population in France. Rommel would read the message and simply say "This message is uninteligble, try again." His Afrikakorps was never convicted of war crimes.
@DerKreuzitterIts difficult to find what Rommel did at Longarone, but i found it. Just so people know, i know you already know. here's a little of what happened :)
Longarone was the site of a battle in World War I, In which a few companies (a company is about 150- 200 soldiers) of German troops lead by Erwin Rommel successfully captured an entire Italian Division of over 10,000, retreating after the Battle of Kobarid (Caporetto). Rommel was awarded his pour le merite medal for this achievement.
The 9 fucks who disliked this video are who I aim my hatred at. You are the liberal scum that has had SO MANY german WWII biographies/stories removed from Youtube. How can you dislike Rommel anyway? He was one of the greatest commanders in history. Ask ANY military expert. He was just doing his job. Right up until Hitler betrayed him and told him to stand and commit suicide. Fuck you liberal Berkeley fags. Go flag and dislike Andy Samberg or some other ugly idol of yours. Eat human shit.
Good clip, but I've never heard of the Iron Cross first class with swords and diamonds. There was the Knight's cross with Oakleaves and Swords, and diamonds though. It was worn around the neck.
@Wehrmacht1933 Hitler was the Traitor, He made Germany and the Axis Alliance fight on even know they had been humiliated and defeated at N.Africa,Middle-east and Eastern Front. And had lost Millions of Troops and there own Civilians been bombed 24-7 since 1940. Hitler had lost the plot and was out of control, Rommel,Himmler,Goering they all turned against Hitler, Rommel fought for GERMANY not HITLER, And for Germany Hitler had to be put down like the common dog he was!
Hitler betrayed Rommel he his best General, Hitler sent Rommel to his death and told him if he didnt kill himself he Wife and Son would be "taken care of" Hitler was brutal dictator and a thug he was a Idiot the fool who thought he defeated Britain and France.
@Southparker100000000 Britain wasnt even invaded, Never mind defeated. Yes France was defeated and fell 1940. And Britain had NO military aid from the U.S untill end of 1942. And the Commonwealth is lead by the British, They were part of the British Empire. And what about the Military aid that Germany got?? From there Allies?, Remember Germany was part of the Axis Alliance.
@martynrobin121 Britain was on the brink of surrender and trapped in a corner out manned and outgunned by a technologically superior force, they had lost. And actually, Commonwealth nations are just that Sovereign nations, and despite what you smug island monkeys might think, Australians and Canadians went to save your asses on their own free will, they chose to fight and die for you, not because they had to, and not because they were slaves to your king. You should respect that.
@Southparker100000000 Britain humiliated the Axis in the biggest Air battle in history, Whitch stopped the invasion of Britain. Churchill said "Never surrender, Victory whatever the cost maybe". And Canada and Australia were part of the Commonwealth, And even today the Queen is still head of state. They are part British with our Heritage, etc. They are our Brothers and united with Britain no matter what.(True Allies) And what about the German military aid from the Axis Alliance??
@martynrobin121 Irrelevant, without North American and Austrian aid, you'd be eating sauerkraut right now and reading Mein Kampf with your best friend Hans, and yet you don't seem to appreciate that fact. You still have it in your smug little island monkey head that Australians and Canadians owe you some sort of debt, because your royalty enslaved their forefathers. You're lucky they were so kind, most countries would have let you rot under German boots for having such temerity.
@Southparker100000000 Very wrong, You little keyboard warrior. Canada and Australia were never enslaved by the British you twat, Britain gave birth to Canada,Australia, etc, etc And by the way they arnt the Natives!! And the World united with Britain against the Axis Alliance even India! And Canada and Australia are our Brothers and Family(Research history) They are also part of Commonwealth and we are United as 1. And even today Canada,Australia, etc WANT to stay part British. Whats your problem?
@martynrobin121 Well lets see, Australia was the hell hole your monarchs sent criminals and political dissidents to to die, the British Gulag if you will. And Canada was a French Colony that the British invaded, slaughtered the french inhabitants and enslaved the remainder, before filling it up with Ex-Americans. Who were also enslaved to fight British wars against the Yankees twice more. Then they all still came to your rescue twice, they owe you nothing you limey dog.
@Southparker100000000 Britain FOUND and claimed Australia. And British relations with American natives were very good, They fought with Britain against the U.S colonials(Nobdoy forced them). And France had been Britains rival for centurys. Your full of shit, Look what the U.S Colonials done to the Americans Natives when the British left? And i never said Australia,Canada owe Britain anything, You crazy keyboard warrior, You know nothing of British relations with Australia,Canada, WERE FAMILY!
@martynrobin121 thats not entirly true. Hitler sent men to Rommel's house and gave him a choice, it was not a threat.
1. Hitler knew that if Rommel was sent to be tried for treason there would be a large destruction of troop moral which he knew he could not risk.
2. If Rommel were to go to a trial and appeal for treason, it is most likely his family was to be tortured for information about the conspiracy and they would be harassed by the German people for being the spouse and son of a traitor.
@ORE0789 3.Hitler promised that Rommels optional suicide would be masked and would let him die a war hero. Rommels family would also be given a pension.
@ORE0789 Rommel had no choice! He loved and cared for his Family more than anything! He knew that his Family would be tortured and then murdered. Rommel knew what kind of man Hitler was and how savage the Nazi regime was. Also it was certain that Germany and her Axis Allies would be defeated and Germany was desperate and in a state, Even top Nazi Himmler was begging theAllies for peace against Hitlers back and Hitlers Generals,Friends plotting him against him.
@lUniverseI Its a well known fact that Rommel betrayed Hitler, In North Africa Rommel betrayed Hitlers order to stand and fight and Rommel ran away from the British 8th Army lead by Monty who liked to hunt the desert fox! Rommel betrayed Hitlers orders to kill British special forces, jews, etc, Infact Rommel betrayed most of Hitlers orders and did his own thing he was like a crazed bull. Also Rommel plotted against Hitler and was involved in the plan to kill the Austrian dictator.
@martynrobin121 Uhm i think you don't know what the verb 'to betray' means, Rommel ignored Hitlers orders. that is not the same as betraying someone. Rommel did not plot against Hitler he was told to join the plot but he never did it and said that it was absurd. But he knew of the plot. Speidel said at his last breath that rommel was also in the plot which was not true. And Hitler went paranioa and specially after his argue with Hitler. So Hitler gave the orders to find and arrest him.
@lUniverseI Rommel went against most orders by Hitler, I would say he betrayed Hitler. And Rommel was killed due to his part in the Plot to kill Hitler, Rommel knew Hitler was going insane and would destroy Germany, Even Himmler turned against Hitler! Rommel died to protect his Family, and his death was a cover up!
@martynrobin121 So by your theorie, if you ignore what your mom tells you to do you betray her...?
Himmler was being smart and wanted to end the war in secret with the allies he tried to save lives that's acting as a human and not as an insane person that Hitler was. Hiter thought he could still win with his new weapons in 1944 which just stretched the war costing more lives. Rommel did not plot with the conspiracy against Hitler.Hitler went insane and was executing everyone, he betrayed germany
@lUniverseI Obviously, Rommel made it clear he had no respect for his Leaders he failed to obay orders. Rommel was like a charging bull and using up Axis resources that couldnt be replaced not very smart. And Hitler wasnt even German, He was a Austrian Dictator who had taken over Germany! Hitler knew the war was lost after Kursk, He said so himself. Hitler had promised the Germans that there would be surrender and humiliation after 1918, And i think thats the only promise he stuck 2.
@martynrobin121 Dude... read some books! Rommel did things that not even armericas or bitains best generals could achieve, he earned the pour le merite when he was only 26 years old, when he retreated from el alamein he saved 10000 germans and did a tactfull retreat. he captured 33000 britains with his afrika corps that earned him the iron cross with oak leaves and swords, stop writing what other ppl tell u.
@lUniverseI The British captured 100's of thousands of European Axis troops, Monty also served during the Great war and made a name for himself, Monty defeated Rommel in Africa,France, etc. The British starved Rommel and his Axis forces of resources, Montys Army defeated Rommel and sent the Axis running with no-escpare or hope, Rommel had used up there resources and men when was charging like a bull 1941.
@martynrobin121 Rommels troops 77000 - British troops 300000 in africa, Rommel won. (1941) like i said read some books u retard... Rommel was respected by either montgomery and eisenhower as a very skillfull opponent, and also danger opponent. the only one who could about Rommel was George S. Patton because he was a good general and read Rommels book with his experience and leading during the Great War, untill he knew it by heart. But in the end Senior Command lost it way as did the 3s reich
@lUniverseI N.Africa 1940, British Forces 30,000 the Axis forces 250,000= British victory, East Africa taken and Egypt invasion stopped and liberation of Axis occupied Libya started. Yes, Rommel pushed the British out of Libya 1941 but wasted resouces that wouldnt be replaced, Monty let the Axis use up there Fuel then at Alam Halfa stopped the Axis advance, In the Battles of El Alamein defeated Rommel and it was the end of the Axis campaign in Africa they were on the run with no-escape.
@martynrobin121 Rommel did not stay in Africa untill it was defeated he had to leave there because of health reasons thats why montgomery won there he was not facing Rommel but a less experienced hans jirgun, battle of gazala allies 110 000 axis 90 000 axis won, allies lost 50 000, 1200 tanks of the while axis lost 400tanks and axis lost only 3000men, how is that consuming all of the axis resources?1e battle of alamein 150000-90000, 13000allies lost 10000axis lost while allies had 2k more planes
@lUniverseI Monty defeated Rommel at Alam Halfa whitch stopped the Axis advance, Rommel was also present at the Battles of El Alamein, Rommel tried many counter-attacks and failed. Monty had the Axis forces defeated and trapped, Royal Navy,R.A.F destroyed most of the Axis supplies, The British knew WHERE and WHEN the Axis would get there supplies. Yes, Rommel was good when he charged 1941 he wasted Resources, men that could not be replaced, Rommel was good, But he was predictable.
@martynrobin121 Predictable? he was the most innovative, honorable commander... predictable? you don't know what you are saying. he was like fath sultan mehmet of the ottoman empire who moved ships over mountains to attack the enemy in the back.
@lUniverseI Rommel was charging like a crazed bull when he arrived in N.Africa,(Going against orders) When Monty took command of British Empire forces he knew that Rommel was on the advance, Monty knew that Rommel was charging and Monty had to decide where he wanted to defend, Monty made Alam Halfa the stage were Rommels advance would be stopped, And the Battles of Alamein broke and crushed the Axis forces it was game over for the Africa campign, Monty got that desert fox!
@martynrobin121 that was the 2nd battle of Alamein and rommel was in germany then... rommel only tried one last assault which failed but then he had to go to germany because he was sick and never returned montgomery crushed jirgun in the final battle of the africa corps. about rommel was told that he could go into your mind and just read what you where about to do on the battlefield. he himself was not predictable.
@lUniverseI Yes, Your correct Rommel was away at the 2nd Battle of Alamein. However even if he was there, Monty would have won. I admire Rommel, However you have to agree that when Rommel went on the advance he used up resources, men that could not be replaced, The Axis had hudge problems with supplies during the war, etc. Rommel was begging for more Supplies,Troops and Hitler made it clear his focus was on Russia, And whatever supplies they could spare would go to Axis in Africa.
@martynrobin121 Yes he did but you oke you are correct but why? It was worth what he was fighting for there namely fuel he tried to do everything to get the fuel in Africa he bet everything on and when he should win it would be worth what he was using up there. Africa contains alot of resources which are vital and it has been like that for years. Rommel tried to occupy that and oke he used alot but in the end it would pay off but he couldn't stay there longer.
@lUniverseI The Axis forces in N.Africa had been losing since 1940, When Rommel took over 1941 he was only able to push the British back into Egypt. The Axis forces had hudge problems with supplies, The Tanks,Aircraft,Fuel,Supplies that the Axis had used, Could not be replaced. The British were in full control, They could replace tanks, aircraft and had an Empire full of Troops & Resources, Britain could buy things and trade, The Axis were been starved by Britian of everything.
@martynrobin121 So the Axis had less resources then the British men and resources that could not be replaced, still Rommel pushed them out and conquered north Africa while he was in the minority. That is heroic like he always had been.
@lUniverseI Rommel only managed to push the British out of Libya, The British blitzreig in Africa of 1940 had ran out of Fuel. Rommel never conquered N.Africa or anything where do you get this bullshit? Rommel pushed the British out of Libya and then at the Battles of Alam Halfa,El Alameins the British 8th Army crushed the Axis forces and it was the end of the Axis campaign in N.Africa, The British were always winning. Rommel was leading a failed campaign from the start, Think about it!
@Etay1993 Rommel was great at his job, nobody can argue with that. Compared to Allied generals with endless resources of tanks, aircraft, men, weapons. Rommel fought outnumbered and became legend.
@Etay1993 Rommel was not a Nazi, He was not part of the Nazi party. Rommel was loyal to Germany not Hitler!!!! Research Nazi in google you idiot, YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW NOTHING!!!! Learn history you fool, Who the hell told you that Germany or even the Axis wanted to take over the world?? Honestly your history is pathetic, Look into WORLD WAR 2 learnn!!!
@martynrobin121 My grade in history is 87 out of 100, and when I learn History it's about WW2, not about a Nazi called Rommel. I know the Nazis didn't plained to occupied all the world, it's because they knew that it's impossible for them. They wanted to occupied all the of east europe and make the people there slaves.
@Etay1993 Obviously you know nothing, Rommel was not a Nazi thats a well known fact. And to say that Germany wanted to take over the world is just stupid. Nazi-Germany goals was to destroy Communism and the Soviet Union, So Germany and its European Allies could expand east. When the Axis did invade East they were seen as liberators and millions joined the Axis Armies against Communism. The Axis only "enslaved" undesirables, The Soviets enslaved everybody, Mostly there OWN PEOPLE!
@Etay1993 Are you stupid?? Germany had no plans to conquer the world, The main goal of Germany was to expand into the East and destroy Communism and unite Great Germany in Russia. You obviously seem to know nothing, Taking over the world is impossible you idiot. Rommel was only sent to Africa to help German Allies Italy who had been humiliated by the British in 1940. Honestly to say Hitler/Rommel wanted to take over the world shows you are stupid and know NOTHING, IDIOT!!!!
@Etay1993 How can you call Rommel a Nazi?? He was not even part of the Nazi party and had been in the German Army before the Naizism was even born. Rommel was loyal to Germany, And betrayed Hitlers orders to capture Jews,Undesirables and kill SAS. Rommels Axis Africa Forces were never charged with any war crimes in Africa.
@Etay1993 Please learn history, To say that Rommel was a nazi is just foolish. Also to say that Germany wanted to take over the world is pathetic. You say that Germany and Axis Europe wanted to make everybody there slaves?? That is more foolish proppaganda, Axis were liberators when they expanded East, The Communists Soviets were horrific and millions thought that Axis were there to liberate them from Communism, Soviet Union won the war and enslaved, killed endless millions and took E.Europe,Chin
That's not entirely true. Hitler did indeed want living space for Germany and that's why he tried to invade Europe and Africa. It has already been proven from documents found in Hitler's office that he already had plans for the Middle East and America. But Rommel indeed was not Nazi at heart; he was simply fighting for Germany. Germany could've taken advantage of liberation to get the Soviet at his side, but instead he treated Russians as sub-human and tortured them. So...
@tshenvideos LEARN HISTORY, Hitler saw "Living Space" in Poland & Western Russia. Germany only went to Africa to help there Allies Italy fight the British Empire. Germany,Italy only invaded France & the low Countries because British-French declared war. Hitler said Germany,Italy would withdraw from W.Europe & Africa if the British agreed to peace. The Germans had plans to attack the U.S, The Americans were asking for war from the start, They were very corrupt. Rommel was NOT a nazi just RESEARCH
@martynrobin121seriously do you read these things somewhere? France/ Britian warned Hitler again and again to stop invading countries or expect war.Poland was the last straw. Hitler was gonna invade france anyway and he was actually happy that france decaled war on him.So he had a reason to invade france.Btw,nazis wanted to conquer the whole of Europe.Behind closed doors they were scheming with japan, russia and italy to divide up the world.
@tripper85 You said Hitler wanted to take over Europe? However that is bullshit propaganda. What about Spain,Italy,Bulgaria,Romania,Hungary,Switerland,Finland! Also the first German invasion was Poland 1939. You ask did Germany invade France & low countries, Simple they declared war. You obviously dont know very much, Hitler never wanted war in the west, Look at his great peace offers? Hitler goal was to unite greater germany and expand into Poland-Western Russia. Read Mein Kampf.
@martynrobin121 The fact that you may have read Mein Kampf and believe in it, you might as believe the nazi's killed all those jews and other minorities for a very good reason..
Unit greater germany myass.Nazi were literally carpet bombing poland even after its surrender..Hitler always wanted war in the west. He just wanted to be fully prepared and equipped. Look at his great peace offerings?? after needlessly killing women and children of so called ''greater german'.
@tripper85 Its a well known fact and part of History that Nazi-Germany had no plans to "conquer" Europe, Never mind the entire planet. However the Germans did want Poland & Western Russia for living space. Hitler never wanted a war in the West, He admired the British and look to them as future Allies against Communism, Also France was weak without Britain to back them up they would not attack France. Hitler hoped the Allies would do nothing, And Germany & Its Allies would fight Stalinism.
@tshenvideos Germany didn't want to destroy the British Empire, he actually admired Great Britain. But Britain could not operate without having control over the continent which Hitler wanted, so that is why he went on with his attack. The only reason he went into Africa was because Italy was having a hard time resisting the British attack.
While I agree that the main objective of the African campaign was to assist the Italians, I still hold that Hitler planned to attack the United Kingdom. Operation Sea Lion would have gone forth had Hitler's planes won air supremacy. While Hitler recognized that the UK was a world power, he still desired to to take them out. Unfortunately, the Russian bear was to tantalizing to his imperial tastes for him to resist.
rommel was a beast, montgomery had him outnumbered in every single they fought and rommel was still winning for 2 years, it took montgomery a 5 to 1 advantage to finally run rommel off
@ThorvaldFan999 What are you talking about? Montgomery had control of the eighth army from 1942-1943. Hardly two years, infact it was hardly almost a year.
its is obvious that hitler decided to reiforce afric a copr at the time it was defeated .. the first army was send but it was too late.. the english airforce was dominating the air and fuel were not enough.. so the defeat was a fact and germans lost all reserves they could use to defend the western front
if hitler hadnt inavded russian in 41 he PROBABLY would have beat the Brits in africa Rommel would have more men and supplies and the USSR would still supplie them with Oil from Caccaus after Rommel beat the Brits he could have gotten the MASSIVE oilfields in the middle east and EASLIY grab stalingrad when he invaded russia.....
@jasincl russian were going to invade GERMANS. They were first and att when USSR was no ready. There was chaos in russian structures when they invade them.
@dagothversur4 Im sorry to interrupt-------but the USSR was not going to attack Germany....They have no borders to start from, the army was big but weak, there is no evidence of any seriously attack-plans....I have read alot about the ww2 and I have never seen any books on this...Well,I mean real books, not some propaganda....
5.25 : if fanatism is a disease, bomber Harris cured horribly these women ....and germans dared no more to sing "Hört ihr's in den Ohren klingen: Ran an den Feind! Bomben! Bomben! Bomben auf Engelland!"
and when u.s.a entered the war they were not a super power, they became a super power near the end and after the war. only reason germany lost was they were simply outnumbered, if they had the man power u.s.a and russia had, russia, south africa, all of europe would be speaking german right now.
@sutton123454 Theres a lot more to it, hitler is going crazy at this point, he was ttrying to fight to many wars at once his brain was rotting, and some of his genereaks sucked ass he shouldn't have attacked russia and when he did he shouldnt have waited two weeks doing nothing with his troops, he fucked up in the winter part too, he WAS CRAZY by then
patton forced romel to cyrinai penisula and hit with the new 105 mm artilliery.. itv was obvious that the whole german desert operation was based on 88 mm canons and panchers which BRITISH DINT HAVE,when the allies got the new tanks everything changed,,
@JIMY45GR rommel was 10 times better then patton. rommel didn't have the supplies patton had, even without all that he still held back the american's for a long time. rommel is a true leader. Even till this day the american's study rommels tactic's and military knowledge, you see pattons tactic's and knowledge in books? nope. Even in the gulf war when american's took out massive amounts of iraq's and they captured some POW's the POW's asked why they had a picture of their enemy in their
@sutton123454 i said before .. you prepare your fuel befor e starting a war and expect respond from the oppennet.. no navy no airforce.. and you go to win a super power USA. its crazy like the whole war..what has iraq to do with tactic war..germans fight in iraq also.. and they fail like all united forces there.. today is another century.. past is past.. noo one wins rebbells ..romel faile din normady also.. expecting the invasion in cale, and he was absent ..
@JIMY45GR you can only prepare for a war with so much supplies cause you don't know how long the war will drag on. united starts did not fail in iraq, they won, you don't see saddam's army there no longer do you? it's gorilla warfare, which no one wins, only way someone can win that is if they nuke the damn country, and wasn't rommel absent from normandy because he really sick? or because hitler found out he was plotting to kill him? there's alot more reason's why he was absent from normandy.
@JIMY45GR and i brought up the iraq war to show how much american military glorify's rommels tactic's and how they even have pictures of him in their tanks.
@sutton123454 if you are agreat army powwer you first get supplie s and then start a war,,,that make s the difference ofbig strategik hitler let his armies fight with any cost to deatth
@JIMY45GR they did have the supplies but that runs out when you have a two front war and no longer are fighting one country but lots at once, germany did good compared to what they were up against. if they had the man power russia had, russia would be speaking german right now.
@HerrDagerman Rommel received this( F.M.) promotion in June of 1942.More than 2 years before the assassination attempt on Hitler that resulted in Rommel's death.
As much as I admire Rommel for realizing that Hitler was ruining Germany, prior to that realization he was a man who was faithful to the oath that he had given TO Hitler to be loyal to HIM. There is no indication prior to that that he was anything other than a minion for Hitler.
@yohannbiimu actually rommel was linked to the conspiracy to kill Hitler, im not so fond of this information, but im pretty sure that Rommel wasn't so much a puppet of Hitler outside of Africa
@LuisRC91 I am very much aware of that fact. I do not know where you got the idea that I did not think so. If you read the first part of my first sentence below, you will see that I acknowledge that Rommel realized that Hitler was ruining Germany. So, why are you wasting my time with this post?
Rommel served Hitler faithfully until Stalingrad, "Tunisgrad," Kursk, and a score of other disasters convinced him that the war was lost. Then and only then did he turn on his master.
there were story's from Allied POW's of Rommel saying that when there was medical treatment needed he gave it water food and gave mercy that no one else did
You are ignorant and self-delusional if you persuade yourselves that by 1943, ten years after Hitler took power, the German military wasn't rife with Nazis. Hitler had early-on purged his fighting men in order to make sure they were COMPANY men..regardless of what conscience would later say when pressed by conquerors and guilt.
Rommel is still a dirty bosch racist. As he was incharge in north Africa tripoli etc when pogroms broke out so he has blood all over he hands. long live the jews whho ahh.
"If I had my way, I'd send that genius son of a bitch an engraved invitation in iambic pentameter: A challenge in two stanzas to meet me alone in the desert. Rommel in his tank and me in mine. We'd stop about 20 paces. We'd get out, we'd shake hands then we'd button up and do battle, just the two of us and that battle would decide the outcome of the war."
The order to kill commandos wasn't untill after the sub base raid so african soldiers where still protected under pow rules, not spy and espionage rules.
rommel only even helped hitler because the nazis threatened his family. he was a good man and my friend is his great nephew
js7161 1 day ago
He is the only German officer I respect, besides Colonel Stauffenberg. Rommel is one of the only German commanders that didn't ever commit any war crimes in WWII. Rommel hated Hitler and the Nazis and he didn't want to have anything to do with the mass murder of Jews and that I respect him for.

1elgalle1 2 weeks ago

I rank Rommel as one of the top heroes of WWII and you need to learn some respect and history while you're at it.

rommel was wehrmacht not nazi he never joined the nazi party !
and rommel never got decent recourses and that everything !

hitler didn't even care for germany or german people !
i dont say he was a saint but he was NOT a nazi

rommel was loyal to the nazi regime and was definately not the best german commander. his reputation has been greatly inflated in order to build up the battered british reputation and morale in that period of the war and in order to try to seperate germanys military history from its nazi history.

Say "The Desert Fox" 3 times as fast as you can.
Now think about what you said. :D
VictumRoManius 4 months ago
Rommel really looked up to Hitler in the beginning. In his letters to his wife you can see the effect Hitler had on Germany's people, and what a skilled deceiver he was. Such loyal, brave, merciful men as Rommel are few and far between.

Southparker100000000 7 months ago
Rommel, in my opinion, is the classic hero. Charismatic, daring, and with a love for his country, he put his own life on the line many times for Germany's sake. In both wars, I might add (look up The Battle of Longarone), he showed guile, initiative, and every other trait a soldier should. It is a shame that he was born when he was, because his name will be wrongly associated with Hitler and Nazism. I truly admire Rommel as a soldier, and as a person.
DerKreuzitter 8 months ago 14
@DerKreuzitter I would further that by saying that Hitler on numerous occasions ordered Rommel to eliminate the Jewish population in France. Rommel would read the message and simply say "This message is uninteligble, try again." His Afrikakorps was never convicted of war crimes.
ColdWarShot 7 months ago
@DerKreuzitterIts difficult to find what Rommel did at Longarone, but i found it. Just so people know, i know you already know. here's a little of what happened :)
Longarone was the site of a battle in World War I, In which a few companies (a company is about 150- 200 soldiers) of German troops lead by Erwin Rommel successfully captured an entire Italian Division of over 10,000, retreating after the Battle of Kobarid (Caporetto). Rommel was awarded his pour le merite medal for this achievement.

From there Allies?, Remember Germany was part of the Axis Alliance.
martynrobin121 7 months ago
@martynrobin121 Britain was on the brink of surrender and trapped in a corner out manned and outgunned by a technologically superior force, they had lost. And actually, Commonwealth nations are just that Sovereign nations, and despite what you smug island monkeys might think, Australians and Canadians went to save your asses on their own free will, they chose to fight and die for you, not because they had to, and not because they were slaves to your king. You should respect that.
Southparker100000000 7 months ago
@Southparker100000000 Britain humiliated the Axis in the biggest Air battle in history, Whitch stopped the invasion of Britain. Churchill said "Never surrender, Victory whatever the cost maybe". And Canada and Australia were part of the Commonwealth, And even today the Queen is still head of state. They are part British with our Heritage, etc. They are our Brothers and united with Britain no matter what.(True Allies) And what about the German military aid from the Axis Alliance??
martynrobin121 7 months ago
@martynrobin121 Irrelevant, without North American and Austrian aid, you'd be eating sauerkraut right now and reading Mein Kampf with your best friend Hans, and yet you don't seem to appreciate that fact. Southparker100000000 7 months ago

martynrobin121 7 months ago
@martynrobin121 Well lets see, Australia was the hell hole your monarchs sent criminals and political dissidents to to die, the British Gulag if you will.
ORE0789 7 months ago
@ORE0789 3.Hitler promised that Rommels optional suicide would be masked and would let him die a war hero. Rommels family would also be given a pension.
ORE0789 7 months ago
@ORE0789 Rommel had no choice! He loved and cared for his Family more than anything! He knew that his Family would be tortured and then murdered. Rommel knew what kind of man Hitler was and how savage the Nazi regime was. Also it was certain that Germany and her Axis Allies would be defeated and Germany was desperate and in a state, Even top Nazi Himmler was begging theAllies for peace against Hitlers back and Hitlers Generals,Friends plotting him against him.

@martynrobin121 Rommel did not betray Hitler...
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Its a well known fact that Rommel betrayed Hitler, In North Africa Rommel betrayed Hitlers order to stand and fight and Rommel ran away from the British 8th Army lead by Monty who liked to hunt the desert fox! Rommel betrayed Hitlers orders to kill British special forces, jews, etc, Infact Rommel betrayed most of Hitlers orders and did his own thing he was like a crazed bull. Also Rommel plotted against Hitler and was involved in the plan to kill the Austrian dictator.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 Uhm i think you don't know what the verb 'to betray' means, Rommel ignored Hitlers orders. that is not the same as betraying someone. Rommel did not plot against Hitler he was told to join the plot but he never did it and said that it was absurd. But he knew of the plot. Speidel said at his last breath that rommel was also in the plot which was not true. And Hitler went paranioa and specially after his argue with Hitler. So Hitler gave the orders to find and arrest him.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Rommel went against most orders by Hitler, I would say he betrayed Hitler. And Rommel was killed due to his part in the Plot to kill Hitler, Rommel knew Hitler was going insane and would destroy Germany, Even Himmler turned against Hitler! Rommel died to protect his Family, and his death was a cover up!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 So by your theorie, if you ignore what your mom tells you to do you betray her...?
Himmler was being smart and wanted to end the war in secret with the allies he tried to save lives that's acting as a human and not as an insane person that Hitler was. Hiter thought he could still win with his new weapons in 1944 which just stretched the war costing more lives. Rommel did not plot with the conspiracy against Hitler.Hitler went insane and was executing everyone, he betrayed germany
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Obviously, Rommel made it clear he had no respect for his Leaders he failed to obay orders. Rommel was like a charging bull and using up Axis resources that couldnt be replaced not very smart. And Hitler wasnt even German, He was a Austrian Dictator who had taken over Germany! Hitler knew the war was lost after Kursk, He said so himself. Hitler had promised the Germans that there would be surrender and humiliation after 1918, And i think thats the only promise he stuck 2.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 Dude... read some books! Rommel did things that not even armericas or bitains best generals could achieve, he earned the pour le merite when he was only 26 years old, when he retreated from el alamein he saved 10000 germans and did a tactfull retreat. he captured 33000 britains with his afrika corps that earned him the iron cross with oak leaves and swords, stop writing what other ppl tell u.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI The British captured 100's of thousands of European Axis troops, Monty also served during the Great war and made a name for himself, Monty defeated Rommel in Africa,France, etc. The British starved Rommel and his Axis forces of resources, Montys Army defeated Rommel and sent the Axis running with no-escpare or hope, Rommel had used up there resources and men when was charging like a bull 1941.
martynrobin121 4 months ago

Yes, Rommel pushed the British out of Libya 1941 but wasted resouces that wouldnt be replaced, Monty let the Axis use up there Fuel then at Alam Halfa stopped the Axis advance, In the Battles of El Alamein defeated Rommel and it was the end of the Axis campaign in Africa they were on the run with no-escape.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 Rommel did not stay in Africa untill it was defeated he had to leave there because of health reasons thats why montgomery won there he was not facing Rommel but a less experienced hans jirgun, battle of gazala allies 110 000 axis 90 000 axis won, allies lost 50 000, 1200 tanks of the while axis lost 400tanks and axis lost only 3000men, how is that consuming all of the axis resources?1e battle of alamein 150000-90000, 13000allies lost 10000axis lost while allies had 2k more planes
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Monty defeated Rommel at Alam Halfa whitch stopped the Axis advance, Rommel was also present at the Battles of El Alamein, Rommel tried many counter-attacks and failed. Monty had the Axis forces defeated and trapped, Royal Navy,R.A.F destroyed most of the Axis supplies, The British knew WHERE and WHEN the Axis would get there supplies. Yes, Rommel was good when he charged 1941 he wasted Resources, men that could not be replaced, Rommel was good, But he was predictable.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 Predictable? he was the most innovative, honorable commander... predictable? you don't know what you are saying. he was like fath sultan mehmet of the ottoman empire who moved ships over mountains to attack the enemy in the back.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Rommel was charging like a crazed bull when he arrived in N.Africa,(Going against orders) When Monty took command of British Empire forces he knew that Rommel was on the advance, Monty knew that Rommel was charging and Monty had to decide where he wanted to defend, Monty made Alam Halfa the stage were Rommels advance would be stopped, And the Battles of Alamein broke and crushed the Axis forces it was game over for the Africa campign, Monty got that desert fox!
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 that was the 2nd battle of Alamein and rommel was in germany then... rommel only tried one last assault which failed but then he had to go to germany because he was sick and never returned montgomery crushed jirgun in the final battle of the africa corps. about rommel was told that he could go into your mind and just read what you where about to do on the battlefield. he himself was not predictable.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Yes, Your correct Rommel was away at the 2nd Battle of Alamein. However even if he was there, Monty would have won. I admire Rommel, However you have to agree that when Rommel went on the advance he used up resources, men that could not be replaced, The Axis had hudge problems with supplies during the war, etc. Rommel was begging for more Supplies,Troops and Hitler made it clear his focus was on Russia, And whatever supplies they could spare would go to Axis in Africa.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 Yes he did but you oke you are correct but why? It was worth what he was fighting for there namely fuel he tried to do everything to get the fuel in Africa he bet everything on and when he should win it would be worth what he was using up there. Africa contains alot of resources which are vital and it has been like that for years. Rommel tried to occupy that and oke he used alot but in the end it would pay off but he couldn't stay there longer.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI The Axis forces in N.Africa had been losing since 1940, When Rommel took over 1941 he was only able to push the British back into Egypt. The Axis forces had hudge problems with supplies, The Tanks,Aircraft,Fuel,Supplies that the Axis had used, Could not be replaced. The British were in full control, They could replace tanks, aircraft and had an Empire full of Troops & Resources, Britain could buy things and trade, The Axis were been starved by Britian of everything.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@martynrobin121 So the Axis had less resources then the British men and resources that could not be replaced, still Rommel pushed them out and conquered north Africa while he was in the minority. That is heroic like he always had been.
lUniverseI 4 months ago
@lUniverseI Rommel only managed to push the British out of Libya, The British blitzreig in Africa of 1940 had ran out of Fuel. Rommel never conquered N.Africa or anything where do you get this bullshit? Rommel pushed the British out of Libya and then at the Battles of Alam Halfa,El Alameins the British 8th Army crushed the Axis forces and it was the end of the Axis campaign in N.Africa, The British were always winning. martynrobin121 3 months ago
@martynrobin121
So...
tshenvideos 3 months ago
@tshenvideos LEARN HISTORY, Hitler saw "Living Space" in Poland & Western Russia. Germany only went to Africa to help there Allies Italy fight the British Empire. Germany,Italy only invaded France & the low Countries because British-French declared war. Hitler said Germany,Italy would withdraw from W.Europe & Africa if the British agreed to peace. The Germans had plans to attack the U.S, The Americans were asking for war from the start, They were very corrupt. Rommel was NOT a nazi just RESEARCH
martynrobin121 3 months ago
@martynrobin121seriously do you read these things somewhere? France/ Britian warned Hitler again and again to stop invading countries or expect war.Poland was the last straw. Hitler was gonna invade france anyway and he was actually happy that france decaled war on him.So he had a reason to invade france.Btw,nazis wanted to conquer the whole of Europe.Behind closed doors they were scheming with japan, russia and italy to divide up the world.
tripper85 2 months ago
@tripper85 You said Hitler wanted to take over Europe? However that is bullshit propaganda. What about Spain,Italy,Bulgaria,Romania,Hungary,Switerland,Finland! Also the first German invasion was Poland 1939. You ask did Germany invade France & low countries, Simple they declared war. You obviously dont know very much, Hitler never wanted war in the west, Look at his great peace offers? Hitler goal was to unite greater germany and expand into Poland-Western Russia. Read Mein Kampf.
martynrobin121 2 months ago
@martynrobin121 The fact that you may have read Mein Kampf and believe in it, you might as believe the nazi's killed all those jews and other minorities for a very good reason..
Unit greater germany myass.Nazi were literally carpet bombing poland even after its surrender..Hitler always wanted war in the west. He just wanted to be fully prepared and equipped. Look at his great peace offerings?? after needlessly killing women and children of so called ''greater german'.
tripper85 2 months ago
@tripper85 Its a well known fact and part of History that Nazi-Germany had no plans to "conquer" Europe, Never mind the entire planet. However the Germans did want Poland & Western Russia for living space. Hitler never wanted a war in the West, He admired the British and look to them as future Allies against Communism, Also France was weak without Britain to back them up they would not attack France. Hitler hoped the Allies would do nothing, And Germany & Its Allies would fight Stalinism.
martynrobin121 2 months ago
@martynrobin121 why dont you find a hobby by joining the neo nazi league or something.
tripper85 2 months ago
@tshenvideos Germany didn't want to destroy the British Empire, he actually admired Great Britain. But Britain could not operate without having control over the continent which Hitler wanted, so that is why he went on with his attack. The only reason he went into Africa was because Italy was having a hard time resisting the British attack.
PepsiPope 2 months ago
@PepsiPope
Unfortunately, the Russian bear was to tantalizing to his imperial tastes for him to resist.

if hitler hadnt inavded russian in 41 he PROBABLY would have beat the Brits in africa Rommel would have more men and supplies and the USSR would still supplie them with Oil from Caccaus after Rommel beat the Brits he could have gotten the MASSIVE oilfields in the middle east and EASLIY grab stalingrad when he invaded russia.....

@jasincl and thanks to that, we have defeated the maniac.
razorsharpview9090 1 year ago
@jasincl russian were going to invade GERMANS. They were first and att when USSR was no ready. There was chaos in russian structures when they invade them.
dagothversur4 1 year ago 3
@dagothversur4 Im sorry to interrupt-------but the USSR was not going to attack Germany....They have no borders to start from, the army was big but weak, there is no evidence of any seriously attack-plans....I have read alot about the ww2 and I have never seen any books on this...Well,I mean real books, not some propaganda....
RebelSonBand 10 months ago
@dagothversur4
TBH, I think that whole thing was a misunderstanding.
Stalin was paranoid, but not completely retarded. He knew he couldn't attack the wehrmacht.
So he just bolstered his defence along the new border in fear of a german attack.
The germans themselves saw that as signs of an invasion.

5.25 : if fanatism is a disease, bomber Harris cured horribly these women ....and germans dared no more to sing "Hört ihr's in den Ohren klingen: Ran an den Feind! Bomben! Bomben! Bomben auf Engelland!"

and when u.s.a entered the war they were not a super power, they became a super power near the end and after the war. only reason germany lost was they were simply outnumbered, if they had the man power u.s.a and russia had, russia, south africa, all of europe would be speaking german right now.
sutton123454 1 year ago
@sutton123454 Theres a lot more to it, hitler is going crazy at this point, he was ttrying to fight to many wars at once his brain was rotting, and some of his genereaks sucked ass he shouldn't have attacked russia and when he did he shouldnt have waited two weeks doing nothing with his troops, he fucked up in the winter part too, he WAS CRAZY by then
burgers112706 1 year ago
patton forced romel to cyrinai penisula and hit with the new 105 mm artilliery.. itv was obvious that the whole german desert operation was based on 88 mm canons and panchers which BRITISH DINT HAVE,when the allies got the new tanks everything changed,,
JIMY45GR 1 year ago
@JIMY45GR rommel was 10 times better then patton. rommel didn't have the supplies patton had, even without all that he still held back the american's for a long time. rommel is a true leader. Even till this day the american's study rommels tactic's and military knowledge, you see pattons tactic's and knowledge in books? nope. Even in the gulf war when american's took out massive amounts of iraq's and they captured some POW's the POW's asked why they had a picture of their enemy in their
sutton123454 1 year ago
@sutton123454 i said before .. you prepare your fuel befor e starting a war and expect respond from the oppennet.. no navy no airforce.. and you go to win a super power USA. its crazy like the whole war..what has iraq to do with tactic war..germans fight in iraq also.. and they fail like all united forces there.. today is another century.. past is past.. noo one wins rebbells ..romel faile din normady also.. expecting the invasion in cale, and he was absent ..
JIMY45GR 1 year ago
@JIMY45GR you can only prepare for a war with so much supplies cause you don't know how long the war will drag on. united starts did not fail in iraq, they won, you don't see saddam's army there no longer do you? it's gorilla warfare, which no one wins, only way someone can win that is if they nuke the damn country, and wasn't rommel absent from normandy because he really sick? or because hitler found out he was plotting to kill him? there's alot more reason's why he was absent from normandy.
sutton123454 1 year ago
@JIMY45GR and i brought up the iraq war to show how much american military glorify's rommels tactic's and how they even have pictures of him in their tanks.
sutton123454 1 year ago
@JIMY45GR tank (picture of rommel) the u.s soldier said "if you learned from you're enemy's you wouldn't be here right now.
sutton123454 1 year ago
@sutton123454 if you are agreat army powwer you first get supplie s and then start a war,,,that make s the difference ofbig strategik hitler let his armies fight with any cost to deatth
JIMY45GR 1 year ago
@JIMY45GR they did have the supplies but that runs out when you have a two front war and no longer are fighting one country but lots at once, germany did good compared to what they were up against. if they had the man power russia had, russia would be speaking german right now.

When Hitler gives Rommel his decoration (0:30), Hitler actually seems haunted by the fact that he is about to liquidate Rommel.
HerrDagerman 1 year ago
@HerrDagerman Rommel received this( F.M.) promotion in June of 1942.More than 2 years before the assassination attempt on Hitler that resulted in Rommel's death.

What was the name of the sick warriors he had? Those who got drunk and went on a rampage? Cant remember!
Trixos01 1 year ago
As much as I admire Rommel for realizing that Hitler was ruining Germany, prior to that realization he was a man who was faithful to the oath that he had given TO Hitler to be loyal to HIM. There is no indication prior to that that he was anything other than a minion for Hitler.
yohannbiimu 1 year ago
@yohannbiimu actually rommel was linked to the conspiracy to kill Hitler, im not so fond of this information, but im pretty sure that Rommel wasn't so much a puppet of Hitler outside of Africa
LuisRC91 1 year ago
@LuisRC91 I am very much aware of that fact. I do not know where you got the idea that I did not think so. If you read the first part of my first sentence below, you will see that I acknowledge that Rommel realized that Hitler was ruining Germany. So, why are you wasting my time with this post?
yohannbiimu 1 year ago
Rommel served Hitler faithfully until Stalingrad, "Tunisgrad," Kursk, and a score of other disasters convinced him that the war was lost. Then and only then did he turn on his master.
Sierra688 1 year ago
there were story's from Allied POW's of Rommel saying that when there was medical treatment needed he gave it water food and gave mercy that no one else did

Hitler looked like a little bitch. As a kid he must have got his ass kicked on a regular basis. Hopefully a few jewish kids got in a couple of blows.
pucksterz12 1 year ago
You are ignorant and self-delusional if you persuade yourselves that by 1943, ten years after Hitler took power, the German military wasn't rife with Nazis. Hitler had early-on purged his fighting men in order to make sure they were COMPANY men..regardless of what conscience would later say when pressed by conquerors and guilt.
