If you had any clue about European politics you knew that there is virtuall no difference between liberal and conservative in Germany and France. It's all the same. We basically don't have a coservative party. We have the social democrats (SPD) and the christian democrats (CDU). SPD is not particularly social and CDU used to be christian a couple of decades ago.

I might also add that there wasn't anything broken when Merkel took over. The whole crisis crap started way into her "reign", before that our economy was soaring. Crime rates and all that stuff was low before and is still low because their politic are the same.

Colbert was in character and Russert was grilling him the way he would grill a real politician. It's a joke for both of them and if you get that it's pretty funny and intelligent by both of them. Watch the extended interview between the two of them when Colbert is out of character and it will all be clear. This is a genius interview by two unique and talented television personalities.

Come on, you cant quote satire as factual evidence. You can't take his statements literally, it's all done in a satirical sense. Being able to manipulate language the way he does shows a great deal of intelligence, probably greater intelligence than what we have seen in the white house over the past 8 years.
