  • the divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood brought me here. beautiful song

  • This song is so amazing! It is so beautiful to hear her surrender herself to God! It's like she is admitting and letting go of her stubborn ways! Accepting the fact that she can't be complete without him. Acknowledging God can fufill the void that she has been desperately trying to fill. Just beautiful

  • im not religious in any way at all, but i think that this songs describes a lot of people in my generation (im 17). we need to be thankful for something instead of feeling entitled and we should all do a little meditation. everyone is so busy trying to be who others think they should be, instead of finding themselves (or through religion). much love to lauryn and much love to katelovesrock20

  • I FRICKIN LOVE THIS!!!

  • And a lot of people claim 2 kno Jesus but they really dont. u cant sell out and go hollywood and sell your soul to the devil and say u r a Christian. the Bible say that u cant love both God and money. matthew chapter 6 verse 24. Lauryn is special. as popular as alicia keys and yet she reps Christ. who else in hollywood or the music industry r doing that? plus lauryn makes beautiful music. come back L-Boogie.

  • She is special! best female rapper/female singer/female musician. her essence even exceeds beyomd her fugees group. altho wyclef is one of the greatest also. but i represent Jesus and i think Lauryn Hill may b the only 1 in mainstream worldly music who has a real relationship with Jesus Christ. Lauryn, please come back and grace the world with your gifts. Jesus is God!

  • @Jgangsta94

the lrics were inspired by God, through likely her pain and emotion. The song is for everyone, but she herself is a believer. She sings about God (Jesus) when she says "and then he came"

  • God bless u. Make him proud and praise him wiv ur music

  • You ripped my heart out and never blinked

  • exactly where I am. reminded that God is my rock and always my shoulder... every line seems ripped from the depths of heart. : (

  • Let me say this first, he that has no sin let him throw the 1st stone. As Christians we are so quick to comment on a splinter in our neighbor's eye when we have a log struck in our own eyes. Jesus commissioned us to love one another and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, Him Crucified, the ways of a lot of so called Christians is to down people where they are saved or not. Have you ever thought that it might have been you that God sent to minister to these persons for the Glory of His Kingdom

  • Comment removed

  • amaruby2u...as christians? we are so quick to comment....or as humans.

  • She's a Christian now-Selah is in the bible. Gwarn Lauryn ;-)

  • shes not even jewish. she goes to bible study man.

  • this is such a beautiful song...x

  • that's so beautiful :) it's on the divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood<3

  • i think she talks more about "thruth" than "poetry".

  • this song is not about her daughter.

  • The Jews were scattered throughout the whote world. Today, some of them are European Jews, others are Jews in America, Ethiopian Jews and so on. I am a black man who studies the Word of God and the truth is that the Jewish line is not only found in the black race.

  • im a youngster ..nd i grew up hearing about lauryn hill... i love her music nd poetry tooo .. probably too much .. i would really love to see her perform or even say a few words

  • ahhhh iLUV HER POETRY AND SONGS..wish she wud make more poerty ni a days...

  • Lauyrn, my sister where are you. We miss you so much. Are like me taking care of your young ones for that day to come. We miss your sweet sweet voice the Most High have blessed you with. I pray to our Heaven Father all is well with you and we love you... without the industry.

  • @zion3631 amen

    She's got a new song.

    It's called "Repercussions."

  • I love this song!!

  • the song about about her daughter selah

    :)

  • reading through the comments i feel like some 'fans' dont understand what L.Boogie is trying to say......all her songs shes singing about Babylon and the selling of souls within the music industry......i believe thats why she left......carefully listen to her lyrics of lost ones

  • i can really relate to this song especially "oh im such a mess i have no choice but to confess that ive been desperately trying to belong lying to myself and everybody else"

Lauryn is one of the few singers who really captures my emotions at any given time

  • beautiful...

  • Comment removed

  • you know lauryn's daughter?

  • It's so sad!

  • beautiful!!

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • love this song!! i fell in love with it when i saw the movie.

and guys rock in hebrew is sela, but pronunced totally diffrent,it's used a lot in the hebrew bibble and is another work for amen and praise ,and also a name of a city from david and salomon time...

  • Where's this song from? Has it been officially released?

  • I think it was in the movie "the divine secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood"

  • @SueannIsCool yea yea it was i been searchin for this song for a good while

  • @SueannIsCool yeah it was. i wateched it yesterday and recognized Lauren's voice so i looked it up and found it. :)

  • It is translated into today's general language with the meaning: think about it or praise [the Lord]. Other editions just leave it untranslated as "sela" or "selah

  • selah means rock in hebrew

not to be confused with selasie which means trinity

  • No it doesn't.

  • love love dis song

  • Selah is the name of her Daughter

  • its an hebrew word thet means pause, reflection, within the context of a prayer or psalms. and its taken from the hebrew bible

  • So far you're the only person that has the meaning correct. It's written numerous times in the bible next to passages in italisized print. It literally means that you should ponder or reflect upon a particular passage of the written word of god!

  • thank you for posting this song!!

  • what a beautiful song <3

  • Jah Rastafari

  • no man selah is from the last ethiopian emperor, Selah Selassie, the one rastafari venerates as the last reencarnation of jesus. in fact ras means duke and tafari means his first name. so she is singing beatifullly for his god

  • Selah is in the Bible.

  • selah was a sell out... Marcus was the real...

  • selah is not a person.. I think u are thinking of haile selassie ... Selah is in the bible mostly after a psalm that is when the most high is telling us did u think about what he just said . She explains it in the song as well

  • yup you right :)) . I was not thinking nor listening cuz i heard it before i was reading comments and that is why i said what i said :O)) So i correct my error haile selassie was a sell out and Marcus Garvey was the one people should learn about.. Both went through things but Garvey was actually doing

  • This song is so beautiful. Also one of my favorites of Lauryn Hill. These lyrics really got to me. The first time I've heard it was from the 'Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood'. Which was a sweet & wonderful movie. I hate the fact that this song is so underrated. I just don't get it. =0~

  • That's where I first heard it too

  • I'm usually not a fan of acoustic pieces, but this is by far one of my favourite songs. And then he came...

    Definitely a hidden gem.

  • man, i cried when i heard this song, it spoke to me on many levels i felt every lyric and cherished it...

  • nothing can be done against the truth no matter how much we remain in denial......huge statement!

  • peace love and i have fun

  • love this song

  • the most underrated lauryn hill song..

  • Ain't that the fhruth!

  • OMG Now I know where Selah sue the Belgian soul/ragga singer got her name from!!! Wow I'm so late!! I mean she looks up to Lauryn Hill so it makes perfect sense.

  • can anyone tell me which album this is from?

  • Its from a soundtrack, Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. One of my favorites.

  • My daughter's name is Selah, when I saw it in the Bible I knew that'd be my child's name...the definition I found is "to praise or uplift"...I love this song!

  • Selah means "stop and think of this" or "pause and reflect"

  • if you read the book of Psalms they mention Selah at the end of many verses..i always selah meant death, got it mixed up with Sheol..not the same thing obviously lol. it does mean a musical term

  • When she says Selah she isn't talking about her kids!!! Selah is in the bible which mean amen!!!! like 77SoUIJaH77 said! lol! y'all gettin all off looool!!!

  • Wow, this is why Lauryn is considered one of the greatest R&B artists ever. So, richly talented.

  • but I dont think shes singing to him/her

  • Selah is her daughter her full name is Selah Louise Marley

  • beatiful and true God Really uses her

  • Awesome song...doesn't really matter how we analyse her music it gives a message that is always thought provoking and deeply personal to her and her life...massive stuff..luv it

  • selah is always next to the psalms in the Bible.....and doesn't she even say that it means "praise and meditation"

  • she says the meaning at around 3:51-3:52

  • this term Selah... I think has some double meaning going on. If you look the word up, it essentially means a pause or break in song for reflection. And the way in which she inserts the word makes me think that was a part of it when she wrote this... but again just a theory... only she really knows. But foremost, I think Selah is her daughter. And the same reasons she probably chose the name for her, are a part of this song as well.

  • selah means amen

  • that's not the only interpretation.

  • she says it plainly in the song "selah oh and it means praise and meditation, did you think about that, that it is sealed".

  • Also, "he" God is her savior.

  • I think the song is an open letter from mother to daughter about avoiding the pitfalls that Lauryn herself fell victim to. I think that is why she says Selah "did you think about that". She wants her to reflect on her actions before she makes them. I think this song will be very important to Selah as she grows into womenhood.

  • This is about her daughter SELAH.

  • Why does she say "and the HE came" then, not saying you're wrong.

  • maybe "he" is suppose to represent "god."

  • Maybe, but then why does she say "Selah", directly afterwards. But anyway, who cares.

  • Selah... is her daughter ... and she sees god in her children. She already used that lingo with Zion... not in the same way.. but that's what got me thinking how she may view god in relation to her children. just a theory.

  • Lauryn hill has made many christian songs their just not upfront christian.. u have to really listen to the song like i gotta find of piece of mind and tell him.. her voice is so amazing.. the new album is long awaited

  • lauryn hill says she is a christain but i havent heard her sing enything christain but dont judge her cause she can always turn her life around if she havent already but who cares cause she can sing her tail off i love her music expecially zion
