I remember years ago I was goofing around with a Chipmunks LP and decided to play it at half speed. Face it, you can't do that with a CD! From my efforts, I determined that Ross Bagdasarian was the voice of both David Seville and Alvin! How did you do this? I'd like you to give more chipmunk songs this treatment.

About the pitching down thingy, almost any sound editing program can do it. : )

@LeTuba His formula was to record at 50-70% below regular speed. Then rev the tape back to regular speed to get the chipmunks, on another tape track, he records Dave's voice and mixes everything including the music to one tape... Recording at a lesser speed is necessary if you want to achieve the best chipmunk results even if you are recording to a computer... Changing pitch reduces the quality of the audio significantly. Now, would anyone care to tell me why change pitch instead of speed???

In case anyone's wondering why it sounds a bit strange, it's because it was originally recorded at a slower speed and then sped up. The reason it was done like that? They didn't have the technology then to simply raise the pitch, so they needed to speed it up to get a chipmunk voice.
