@Cruiseman3214 I like how my username is Carman, and your user name is Cruiseman. And I am so happy that you loved this video, I had fun filming it, lol
@Alvinsboys3 Well as long as their is gasoline in the gas tank dude, I can still keep on driving if I run out of electric energy. Now it never happened to me but if I didn't have any gas in the car and I was running low on electric energy, I would then be stranded, but the beauty is all I would need to do is get to the nearest gas station and put some gas in it. If I had an all electric vehicle like the Leaf and I ran out of energy, I would have to find a plug and wait 10 hours to fully charge.
@mitteey Yes it does use gas, in fact since I owned the car from December 2010 until now I used about 14 gallons of gas. Not bad for a vehicle that is almost 1 year old and has over 3,100 miles on it. It mainly only uses gas once you have run out of electric energy, it's a gas generator that turns on to continue produciing power to the electric motor, it has a 9 gallon fuel tank, and you get roughly 37 miles per gallon when the gas generator is running. It's a great car, I love it!
@Cruiseman3214 Haha, well that's where I work at a gas station, I know, I got tired of buying gas all the time, now I rarely get any gas anymore for my car.
@BigDH28 It's well worth the lease price that they are offering it for, compared to lease prices of other $45,000 cars out there, $350-$399 a month is a great lease price on this car. Have you been to your dealer to sit in on or test drive one yet?
@BigDH28 That's a real shame, well maybe if you wait 3 years until our leases are up, then you can find a 3 year old lease return for much cheaper and in your price range then.
@Darkc0w Hey, that's a good question, I really never checked into that, or even know how to find out exactly how many gallons of gas I used. I put in about 3/4 tank of gas, because I was taking a trip into NY and I had less than 1/4 tank of gas, and I didn't realize that I was going to be able to charge the car while I was there, so I ended up not even using very much gas during the trip, so I still have 3/4 tank of gas. So far in the 11 months I had the car, I put in about $40 worth of gas.
@carman81usa Thanks for your reply. I'm still on the fence whether or not get a 100% EV or the Volt. I just wish the Volt was a 5 seater because I have a family. Thanks for sharing your experiences. By the way, is that a 240 V charger?
@Darkc0w Well here is the deal with that. If you are going to have a second vehicle that uses gas that you can use on longer trips over lets say 60 miles or so, then getting a vehicle like a Nissan Leaf would be ideal, you can use the NIssan on shorter trips, and your other gasoline vehicle on longer trips, the difference with the Volt is that it can be your only vehicle, like in my case its my only car, and I can drive it anywhere I want right now with no problem. I like having a backup.
@BXV2009 Yea I know, but its only 5 and 7 hour days, so I don't mind working the extra day and working less hours per day. But after doing that now for 10 years straight, I kinda want to have an extra day off. If I went to 5 days a week, then I would have to work 8 hour days, and I like coming home at 12 noon, instead of 2pm. My only day off is Sunday, but my job is very flexible with my schedule, if I need to leave early or take off they never give me a problem.
@BXV2009 Thank you, thank you! You have a nice car as well. I actually got a chance to drive a Subaru Outback 2011 model for a few hours while my Volt was getting a software upgrade. I work inside a Sunoco Aplus convenience store/gas station, believe it or not. Yes an electric car at a gas station, what is it doing there, lol.
@BXV2009 I really wish I had more time with it. Luckily the rain stopped and I was able to film it real quick. The Outback was roomy and all and had plenty of storage and space inside, I did like how that you don't have that annoying middle seat belt hanging down from the ceiling, I do like the large sunroof in the Forester though. But I like the front and back end styling of the Outback better. I'm really not a fan of wagons though, I'd much rather have an SUV. Liked the blue color I had too!
@carman81usa The 2010-current OB is the biggest one yet. In fact, Motor Trend officially calls it an SUV - it won 2010 SUV of the Year! As for the middle seat belt: In my '03 Legacy wagon, I have it unbuckled and tucked away in the roof so it wouldn't drive me nuts, because when I drive mom's '10 Outback, it's right there, and it drives me absolutely insane! LOL!
I really hope the volt gets more attention from other every day Americans. This car is the future and it is way better looking the Prius or any other Eco-friendly car out their
@hum6web4 In a way I do hope it does, but then again if it does I wouldn't have such a rare car right now, lol. But yes I agree with you. But the Teslas and the Fisker Karma are good looking cars as well.
@JoshJW11 Thanks Josh, I have received so many compliments on the car it's unbelievable, the amount of people that drive by me on the road and give me a thumbs up or a nod with their head is a great feeling, my Jeep prior to this Volt also got a lot of looks, but this car gets even more, make sure to check out my Volt update video to see what it looks like as of now, I added some accessories on it.
@carman81usa Sure thing budd, your vids are awesome! And i can imagine all the compliments Volts are just such great looking cars i see them on the roads a lot here in Michigan!
@josh71111 Haha, yeah right! It might sound silent, but believe it or not, the car does make a sound, it almost sounds like an appliance hum sound, lol.
@DestryLP It's not annoying at all. It's such a quiet hum, that most people can't even hear it. You actually have to literally put your ear onto the hood to hear it, even with very good hearing, lol,
@irw08 Believe it or not, yes the Volt is just a single gear transmission, but the difference between D and L has to do with the braking, in regular Drive mode, when you let go of the accelerator the car will coast and slowly decrease in speed like any other normal car, but in L, it operates just like Drive, except when you let go of the accelerator the car beings to slow down rapidly, almost like auto braking, I always drive in L, I like how the car can slow down by itself.
I love how Chevy made the Volt look and feel like a normal car. (I mean, even a normal shifter unlike the pri-gay-us). And I mean, it looks normal, and quite frankly like an Audi R8 (one of the best looking cars ever) next to the Leaf. CHEVY FTW!
@Motorfordtoyota I totally agree with you. That was one of the main reasons why, well you can get a new Prius now with 17 inch wheels, the older models only came with 15 which looked ridiculous. The whole car feels like a regular car, just super quiet, lol.
@carman81usa Its great! I was reading in my newest edition of MT mag when they compared the Volt to the Leaf to the Prius. The Volt has the quitest interior and the Prius the loudest. And the Leaf, well, its not a car, its a martion.
@carman81usa Yeah, I just couldnt make myself do such a thing, I cannot stand the way that thing looks, along with almost every other new Nissan made now. (Espeacially the Juke)
Man that music in the start up makes me jelous that my dads prius doesn't do that!!! We were looking at the volt, but the rear seat was so tight my sister (the smallest of the family) couldn't fit.
@TrueX7 Yea, but just imagine having to hear that everytime time each and every day you own the car, thankfully you can lower the volume or even turn it off if you don't want to hear the startup and shutdown sounds.
its a nice car FINALLY GM AND FORD are getting there S*** together this is the best hybrid/electric car out there right now and it doesnt look like an egg it actually looks preety nice
@av63pnt0 I can't tell you how many people say the same exact thing, how they love the way the car looks. It has a normal hatchback shape and looks just like your average gas powered car. The car is very nice, comfortable and rides nice, and if your local Chevy dealer has a demo Volt, I suggest you go there and test drive it.
Holy Shit! That thing looks like it could launch off into space with all that technology! SubieSean has a good question with how much is your electric bill a month? Is this a full %100 electric or could you add gas if you wanted or needed?
@wastnTIMEwastnTIME Lol, your too funny. Yeah Sean was just asking me what was up with those spaceship sounds it was making, lol. The car does have some quick acceleration, it would put you all the way back in your seat if I took off, especially in sport mode. You have to go to your Chevy dealer and test drive one and experience it. Or just come over and visit me and drive mine.
The inside is too much for me. I like it simple. Why does it sound like a rocketship? What's the sound system like? And how much is your electric bill a month? If work is that close why did you need an electric car? lol a lot of questions.
@SubieSean This car is far from being simple. It's very complicated and yes it is very hard to keep focused on the road when there is so much happening on the 2 lcd screens, lol. You would probably get into an accident within the first week of driving one, lol. My electric bill hasn't changed drastically at all since I got the car in December, and I charge it at least twice a week. It literally only costs around $1.50 to fully charge it.
