My six-year-old daughter is learning to play this melody on the guitar. She loves it so much that she wants to keep practicing. I love it too. It is so achingly beautiful it brings tears to my eyes.
The first piece of Classical music I learned about in school. In those days USA education was at a high level and included Music classes & culture. That was 1959, I was 11.The name Edvard Grieg was burned into my mind along with this beautiful suite and the names of the movements. It was not a special music school but had a wonderful music teacher. He awakened an appreciation and love for such music for which I remain grateful. When I hear this I'm a boy again full of hope & wonder. hagl Norge
It's almost ironic that this is supposed to accompany the title character awaking up in the heat of a desert, unsure of how he got there. Some scholars have suggested that this is almost sounded acidic to the Norwegian audience in Grieg's time!! You can hear the tension, but it's still so beautiful!!
Lindissimo. Se fechamos os olhos parece que cenas nos aparecem na mente como um lindo filme. Abençoados todos os compositores. Dizem que os compositores tem canal direto com o Divino. Cada vez mais eu acredito nisto. Linda apresentação. Parabens
"Morning" is one of the pieces that I think cannot be fully appreciated until you have heard it live. - that was the case for me anyway. I never used to like it and prefered other melodies from peer gynt. Now however this is one of my favourites!
Agreed it is very beautiful, but I hope your comment is hyperbole. Every morning you wake is infinitely more beautiful than a fairytale. The natural world is as beautiful as it gets. Ever wake up to birds singing at the base of Mt Fuji to see the sun rise? Ever wake up to the sound of the River echoing off the walls of the Grand Canyon?
Just reminding us all that every day is precious and wonderful as is this stunningly beautiful piece of music.
wow. i do love this piece.... it took me so long to find it! I used to listen to this type of music as a toddler to help me fall asleep... i just cant beeive i really did find it!!

Diese Komposition ist wie ein großes Geschenk und ich werde es in meinem Herzen verwahren . Es ist so wunderschön - schon , als wenn man endlich zuhause ist . Danke
0:52 - 1:00 gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
When i hear this piece, I always have got a forest in my head like it would look like in Peter Pan, you know, with millions of tinkerbells flying around and stuff... its weird but its an unbelievably relaxing image.
Good to know someone remembered this film! I remembered it vividly. This was shown with waterfalls, lakes, mountains, meadows and rivers with deer galloping to the old man character before he died. The film was about same period as 'Omega Man' also starred Charleton Heston.
I came back to this music after watching Fitna, the movie about Islam's Horror by Geert Wilder. He uses The Death of Ase from Peer Gynt in the movie. It's amazing how the music goes from the utter bliss of Morning into the utter Despair of Death of Aae.
Griegs beautiful awakening to a fresh new day(morning)!.........dawn has broken, the leafs rustle, flower buds open, butterflies flit into the air, birds sing and stretch there wings and fly majestically over the oceans of our coast lines & valleys!......... a wonderful piece of melodic calm and subtle music of the highest order!
if the crescendo at:58 doesnt put goose bumps on you, then you are either totally deaf ,or you have no pulse.one of the most moving melodies i have ever heard

I've always dreamt of lying on a meadow on a spring morning with nobody around and no sounds of traffic or any other man-made machine, and listening to this piece. It would be so peaceful.
Actually, a lot of them are wearing glasses, but not all of them. Still, inspiring and magnificent says it all. I used to start my morning radio show with this mixed with birds chirping in the background.
