There were two twin brothers in my barracks in Basic Training (1963). One intended to be a tenor. He told me about this tenor Filippeschi whom he claimed could only be heard on the optical tracks of old Italian movies. No one he said knew of this guy in America. Well he was wrong about that but not about Filippeschi. The quality of this recording is pretty good as it happens and the performance is super.
Has the greatest high notes! They're like LIGHTNING & explosions! U should here him in heavier roles. If many would hear this guy, they'd probably not mention Corelli 2much regarding high notes. His LIVE Guglielmo Tell w/Taddei is legendary! Explosions, squillo, lightning, etc...it's all there! BRAVO

Filippeschi is great, but he is best in Act 3 of Aida - there is an unbelievable recording of him on Historical Tenors website.
