I have sung this piece hundreds of times, it's one of my favorites. For those who say it's too slow, it's suppose to be. The tempo is perfect. The sound is nice and full. As far as moving? Why not? I never did it, but I don't see the harm in it either. Actors on stage sing and dance at the same time, and it doesn't affect them. It's a beautiful piece with a choir bringing a warm sound and feeling to it. I love it. Thank you for sharing this.
Brilliant performance, I don't care about the moving, you people sang beautifully, and perhaps because you were mixed up made it even better. GREAT performance, thanks you
i bet this was more impressive in person because the singers appear to be emotionally engaged in the music - makes all the difference in the world, especially at high school level.
I remember I sang this song in my freshman year. Gorgeous piece. Because I never practiced with other parts and just learned mine, when we brought all the parts together and got this, you can imagine how surprised I was!!
I agree, they were a little sharp, but it's beautiful either way!! Brings back memories...
I've heard a couple choirs sing this (mostly college) and I have to admit, this is one of the best versions I've heard. The balance is excellent and the overall maturity of sound was also very good.
...I did get a little seasick from all of the swaying but oh well =)
So, this is a really nice choir. I agree that there are some sharp places, 'specially with your sopranos, but, overall it's good. I also think that its WAY too slow. I also would have liked a little more space on the cadences. My chamber choir is using this on our audition tape for All-State Choir for next year.
Very solid performance! Sharp in a few spots, and I long for a little more bass, especially at the "Alleluia" climax and last chord - both occasions have a low D-natural written that I didn't hear, but this is a very good highschool group.
This peice is gorgeous..... if it we're a recording it would be much better. The swaying takes away from the sound.... very distracting. It's actually easier to sing with your feet planted.... chests up and diaphragm supported.
amazing performance. regarding the rocking back and forth of the singers,i think that's pretty normal, esp with these type of songs. singing is a very physical thing, one has to control his breathing properly that's why swaying or rocking back and forth happens. it happens in my choir too :)
It's a little pitchy, and the Latin isn't very accurate. But it's a beast of a piece for a high school to tackle, and the performance, while imperfect, is still impressive, especially at that tempo.
As a director who has performed this numerous times both as a singer and conductor, I must commend this group on their tempo, and adherance to it. Great job on the entire work. I wish that there were more people singing, since there is a little fullness that is missing, but this group did this piece very well. Congrats!
Very well sung, however, I'm wondering were the performers supposed to rocking back and forth? It's sort of distracting. Other than that, the singing is magical!
This was the best year of choir, my favorite song that year, and my favorite performance. Ah....gives me chills thinking about it. I am so honored to be able to say i was a part of that ensemble.
It was an honor singing this song with you guys and I'll never forget it.
singforyourlifeout, we're swaying because the music has swept us away and it's boring to see a buch of people standing there like sticks when they're singing such a moving piece.
So nice to see such a uniform looking group- it adds so much to the presentation of the music. I also love the scrambled formation- it helps foster a beautiful blend. Very good control...heartfelt singing.....clearly a very good conductor at work here. A moving performance.

My choir is singing this for our annual holiday concert, and I hope we sound that good.
We have about three times as many people though, so I hope we do even better!
