Thank you so much for this video it help'd me fix a mates old dell optiplex pc that failed to find both sata drives on start up. followed the steps above and before buying a new battery i took it out for 10 seconds and it started up and configured the IDE drive and job done only thing i had to do was set the time and date everything is still on the drive pictures music ect... bonus.

i have a sata 3 hard drive, everytime i boot my pc it says "hard drive not found!" but it starts up anyway, as normal, without any problems, and my hard drive is there, i can save and load stuff to and from it, yet everytime on boot up, it says it's not found, i'm concerned about this error message, why am i getting it if it's actually working?

Hey Britec09 I have a problem with my hard drive. As I power up the system it will show the brand of the tower make, processor, ramm speed etc but then I hear a click screen goes black & then a message popped up stating 'system hauled boot failure'

I opened up the side, checked all of the wiring & could hear the disc of the hard drive spinning but then it makes a shape siren like noise.

On the F2 setup I looked to check if the hard drive was still recongnised & it was not. what does this mean ?

something isn't connected right..or ur power supply might be bad..do u use an uninterruptible power supply ? if so it might have gone bad

Man talk about going the long way around to see what's up with the HD. Listen first, cables, detect, Scan, then CMOS.

@ 02:43 CMOS batteries should be held by their outer edge, holding it by both ends will instantly deplete it.

when i start my computer i w8 a little bit and an error pops that i must reboot computer and press tab or del or something like that when i pressed del i saw that the hardware wassent detected

heres another tip: if another harddrive is not found? and ur comp still has a warranty. take it back. as it could be messed up.

If you're using a SATA II drive on a board that only supports SATA I, there might be a jumper on the back of the drive that you can set or remove to make it SATA I-compatible. That's an issue I ran into with my first SATA drive.

Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already.

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD,

Copy the SATA drivers (these can usually be found on your pc or motherboard's support disk. Usually these consist of PIDE/SATA Folders and TXTsetup.oem files.

If your want to slipstream the driver onto a windows cd you can use a program called nLight But your still need the driver? or if you just want to install windows you can push F6 when installing and slip it into install with a floppy Still need the driver or you can use a program call Acronis True Image to add new hard drive this will prepare the hard drive for O/S system no need to slipstream or putting driver in on installation. good luck
