Just another example of an over load fuse that isnt sapposed tobe there. They do that shit cause the power companies are to cheap to keep there right-of-way clear an are to lazy to track the line down for limbs on the line so they put a bigger fuse in to burn off little branchies that touch the wire and are also to lazy to keep replacing fusies.
i wonder if Jethro and Sally Sue know that when a powerline is down and in contact with conrete that it can put out an eletrical current about 75 feet around it.
Every one was way to close to it and because it was close to a water main (note the fire hydrant) power could have run in to peoples houses shocking them or damaging things.
@mikezaq1 I wouldn't worry about the fire hydrant, the water mains are well grounded. I'd be much more concerned about the primary wire touching the cable TV or telephone cables up on the pole. Primary wires are usually completely uninsulated except when passing through heavy foliage.
@TheHuskyGT Imagine that sound from 5 feet away in your house. That what happened to me I heard that sound loud as hell and blue and yellow light coming through all the windows.
@ApolloWasReal Well it makes sense because once the line touched the hydrant, the connection to ground was so much better (miles of metal pipe in the ground!), that much more current could flow, tripping the cutout.
@B1r6m4n Yes, it does makes a lot of sense that the fuse finally blew when the wire touched the hydrant. I don't actually know their ratings but 10A @ 7620V would correspond to 76 kVA or several houses' supply.
The main hazards I'd be concerned about before the fuse blew was the wire contacting a telephone or cable TV line below it on the poles, and more primary wire falling off the poles onto the people below.

Cable TV is coaxial cable, the outer shield is grounded, at every amplifier, at the taps, at the distribution block and at every power supply.
Likewise, telephone service is grounded starting from the central office and has a station protector at the entry point of the building.
Lightning strikes are a very common event, far more power than what is here.

The cutout switch finally blew after the line touched the hydrant.

@B1r6m4n The bang was the fuse in the cutout blowing? When I've heard them blow, it's like a shotgun going off.

the very last bang you heard that sounded like a shotgun was the fuse on a pole blowing which killed the power
chrisrambodiskjockey 1 year ago 3
@chrisrambodiskjockey It's actually pretty cool because you hear 1 fuse, then another subsequent one.
