From what I understand, Saul Zaentz owned the copyright to all Creedence Clearwater Revival songs. Even though John Fogerty wrote most of them. When John broke out on his own Saul would not let him sing any of the songs, because of copyright infringement. What a DICK

@raymoles Yep, that's correct. It's like Ingrid Croce had to sue the record label for the rights to her own husband's songs after his tragic death. It's amazing how many artists have been completely screwed by essentially no talent con men.

@Silk37luvsZarrick Hi, just try to find out a bit of John's history...The original title was always Zanz Kant Danz (in allusion to Saul Saentz (the ltl pig...)), but to avoid more legal problems, warner bross "suggested" to change the name on the album to Vanz Kant Danz....But on the last edition of Centerfield (25th Anniversary), the title has been corrected again to Zanz Kant Danz...

For me, it was the other way around - I saw the video at an animation festival I went to in California and got hooked on the song. It wasn't until years later that I learned the origin of it, and the story of Sol Zanz. Suing an artist for plagerizing himself? No one could make up a ridiculous scenario like that - and to think of it being dragged through the courts is too laughable! I'm glad John won! Thanks johnluchomono for posting this - it brings back GREAT memories for me!
