AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT TO KILL A SNOW LEOPARD!! THEY ARE MY FAVORITE BIG CAT!!!!!!!!!! :'( STOP KILLING THE KITTIES MEAN PEOPLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These two seem quite a bit friendlier than the other wild cats, in terms of people coming near their enclosure (if you didn't know any better, obviously). Was there an attempt in the past to domesticate or partially tame these two before they arrived at your sanctuary?
@SpottedcIaw We don't allow contact with the cats, we talk to them, perform operant conditioning with them and give them enrichment but don't have direct contact.
@chichirinuriko20 Big cats are very rarely released into the wild, if this is done they are captive bred cats in the species survival plan, released in a controlled area. Our cats have genetics that are not pure, they are cross bred and inbred etc...They also have no hunting skills, associate people with food etc.. What needs to be done is to educate people and preserve habitat if this is done wild populations of cats will flourish :)
@jamartin149 It really depends on the cat, but that shouldn't matter! Big Cats arn't for your antertainment in a fight! They arn't 'for' anything, they are wild animals, and should be left that way.
@jamartin149 24 years old and still into yugioh? sort of explains where your question is coming from. These are real and often endangered living things, not fantasy characters with powers you can calculate with a point system when you throw them together in battle for your entertainment. By the time you research and find out enough to answer your own question, you might feel differently about the whole prospect of them fighting at all. Go for it.
I wonder how many snow leopards the "great" United States military has directly killed in their bombing campaigns in Afghanistan and Pakistan...not mention the destruction of their ecosystems there.
Very beautiful. My zoo, Brookfield in Chicago, has a really nice space for their older female. She's very active in the winter and at dusk/dawn, but usually she just enjoys sleeping either in her indoor off exhibit habitat or on the rocks by her viewing window.
I want to correct myself, it's their male they still have lol. But again, very nice space and they promote habitat conservation and the snow leopard trust ( which they said they are a part of I believe but could be wrong).
I know I can't but I am DYING to own one of these beauties. They are my favorite of all cats. Even more than the Cheetah. People need to stop killing them. They're gorgeous. Future generations won't be able to see their beauty if they die out. Culture or not, these creatures need to be preserved. They're too precious to kill. Are there any domestic felines that look similar to the Snow Leopard?
@moi1793able Obviously being situated in sunny Florida we don't get any snow, we do provide our snow leopard with a air conditioned den however so she can escape the heat if she wants to, plus we make all of our cats bloodcicles for the hot summer days :)
Love snow leopards. They are the best at camoflage, in my opinion. The local zoo has a snow leopard who LOVES to "hunt" people. Fist time I saw it, it was hiding behind a rock, and jumped out at us before turning around biting its own tail playfully :) It's a sweety. Whenever I go to the zoo, it always makes a point of coming to the glass of its indoor exhibit and rolling over, and always looks me in the eyes for one second.
I swear to fucking god if I saw someone hunting these snow leopards I would put a bullet through their chest before they could put a bullet through those beautiful animals' chest. Humans are worse than animals and we are heavily over populated, what difference would it make taking a couple of the cancer we call humans out and keeping these sexy animals alive.
my goodness they are very beautiful cats. we need to push this cruelty away from these graceful animals. i love the big exotic cats and we need to help them live and survive
people we dont need to breed them in captivity.. We need to perserve the habitat.. Big cats that are bred in captiviy can not be let back into the wild they would not be able to hunt.
i hate seeing these cars in particular in cages because they really run and climb around alot and use up a lot of space doing shit..they dont just sit there like lions and tigers..its sad seeing these things like this..
One of my favorite parts of the Planet Earth series from Discovery channel was the footage of the snow leopards. I pray this amazing species survives it's uphill battle.
@boombapswag92 Breeding for release into the wild isn't the answer and doesn't happen, what needs to be done is to preserve habitat and educate the local people about the benefits of keeping snow leopards alive instead of hunting them if they kill livestock etc... a conservation group called the Snow Leopard Trust does just this :)

why is the male neutered? aren't we trying to keep them from going extinct? yeah it's true that they aren't as aggressive when they are neutered but stil
@schizokitty177 The cats bred in captivity have to be part of the SSP - Species Survival Plan our male snow leopard wasn't needed for the program, as his bloodline was too close to others, so breeding him would have been pointless :)
Hands down I'd have to say, snow leopards are by far my favorite creature. So beautiful in just about every way! The fur, those eyes, those big tails! Amazing creatures in my opinion.
@1980NewWave We obviously see our snow leopard exploring it's habitat in the morning and evening, during the day they will escape the heat in their den where it is air conditioned. She has adjusted well to Tampa though :)
@1980NewWave I use to think that about the African cats here in the D.C. area. I know someone who works with the cheetahs and she said that most mammals can adapt fairly well, and that they just put on more fur, or don't go out as much. It's probably not much different for these guys. They probably don't go out as much, or maybe they have a thinner coat than the wild snow leopards.
Just a question, how are these animals handling living in Florida? Seriously, I'm from the mountains of Virginia and i found it almost impossible to adjust to the heat and humidity, and that cat has some think fur and its from the tallest mountain range in the entire world. I think people who own these kinds of animals or Huskies in FL or NV should be forced to where fur coats in July.
@markspqr Hi, we obviously see our snow leopard exploring it's habitat in the morning and evening, during the day they will escape the heat in their den where it is air conditioned. She has adjusted well to Tampa though :)
@puttykitty03 Cheetahs are just more rarely owned by individuals, therefore there aren't many that have needed to be rescued. Unfortunately the owners of these cats would easily find people to pay for the cheetah instead of having us rescue it.
Something interesting to note - recent studies of molecular data have shown the Snow leopard to be a sister specie of the tiger, and the common leopard most closely related to the jaguar and lion. the common leopard, jaguar and lion all emerged more recently in the evolutionary line of the genus Panthera.

what the hell, you nueterd a lepaord thats the most stupid thing ive heard, there WILD ANIMALS leave them the way they are geez, these are gonna be extinct one day and this stupid zoo of yours is to blame!
There are breeding programs in place for the snow leopard as part of the species survival plan. We do no breeding at Big Cat rescue, this would only add to the problem of big cats living in cages, why breed when we could give a home to a cat that needs it?
I fully agree with @JoJoKaat. BigCatRescue, why do you do this? for what purpose? you dont make any good things to this cats, you bring them to florida, to the place opposite their habitat, you emasculate them, etc. As I got you make if for money, right, as they are the reason for donation to your organization....
@oxanaklimenko Hi, we do not breed our cats, we rescue them from bad situations and provide them with a permanent home for the rest of their life. Without us they would be in far worse situations or dead, we provide our snow leopard with an air conditioned den so she can escape the heat when she wants to. Please visit our website BigCatRescue*org for more info about what we do :)
@BigCatRescue HI! after you treat them I think you should return cats back where you took them, because you cant deside for them what is better for them: freedom or cage... and the answer is obvious... If you do this, I mean free this animals, it is really honorable thing for which people will donate money with plesure. If you dont free them, I dont understand your purposes and I consider it all for money....
@oxanaklimenko We wish these cats could be in the wild where they belong, but we rescue them from bad CAPTIVE situations, they are not from the wild and can never be released into the wild, this wouldn't be allowed and doesn't happen.
I would imagine, raising these babes privately, that like lions they would behave for about 3 months until they begin to crave meat and get aggressive.
they dont crave meat thats just a stupid thing 2 say they rnt bloodtheirst beasts they're animals they hunt out of instinct and hunger if u dont want 2 get ate feed them
just looking into that face with those huge eyes makes me wanna give em a hug. big cats are elegant beasts that should be respected! i cant wait until im older and raising them for a living!
The faces of snow leopards just give such an air of intelligence and expression. If one just up and spoke in human words one day, I wouldn't be surprised. Such striking looks.
Dudes, it's so great t see people caring for endangered species, this is the type of organizations our world lacks, but it's great to see it's making progress :)
I LUV SNOW LEOPARDS! i wanna work at big cat rescue but i cant. so all i can do is recycle :( i wish america and china had more groups of rescuers like this. especially big cats. Why have i never known all these big cats were iendangered like tigers.
It's all about survival and making a living where these cats do get killed, if the snow leopard were to be hunting a farmers livestock the farmer would naturally go out and shoot it, the problem is solved and he can sell the snow leopard for a lot of money. The snow leopard trust is working with these local communities to help both them and the snow leopard.

@oxanaklimenko We wish these cats could be in the wild where they belong, but we rescue them from bad CAPTIVE situations, they are not from the wild and can never be released into the wild, this wouldn't be allowed and doesn't happen.

adam52003 2 years ago
I would imagine, raising these babes privately, that like lions they would behave for about 3 months until they begin to crave meat and get aggressive.
KarmicOmen 2 years ago
Exactly, they are only cute and cuddly for so long, then they mature and become very unpredictable and BIG!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
they dont crave meat thats just a stupid thing 2 say they rnt bloodtheirst beasts they're animals they hunt out of instinct and hunger if u dont want 2 get ate feed them

Excellent job ---> People.

The faces of snow leopards just give such an air of intelligence and expression. If one just up and spoke in human words one day, I wouldn't be surprised. Such striking looks.

There are two snow leopard cubs available to be seen in the Albuquerque Zoo. Check them out if you get a chance.

Dudes, it's so great t see people caring for endangered species, this is the type of organizations our world lacks, but it's great to see it's making progress :)

Hello, how do the snow leopards handle the very hot and humid Florida weather? Do they have an air conditioned place they can go if they need to?
Sandmaven 2 years ago
Yep, exactly right, we see them more in the mornings/evenings and they can escape the heat with the a/c cave during the middle of the day :)

I LUV SNOW LEOPARDS! i wanna work at big cat rescue but i cant. so all i can do is recycle :( i wish america and china had more groups of rescuers like this. especially big cats. Why have i never known all these big cats were iendangered like tigers.
cankat917 2 years ago
Wow thats awesome.
These are my fav cat next to Tigers :D
hard to believe people would want to kill em huh. Chinese sell the furs, how do they find them if scientists find it hard to spot one lol...

Its sick that some people will only withsatnd from killing the snow leopard if its beneficial to themselves financially
therealbigdrewbowski 2 years ago
It's all about survival and making a living where these cats do get killed, if the snow leopard were to be hunting a farmers livestock the farmer would naturally go out and shoot it, the problem is solved and he can sell the snow leopard for a lot of money. The snow leopard trust is working with these local communities to help both them and the snow leopard.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
god, if they were a pets (i.e. not dangerous) that would be the cutest thing in the world... i just want one... :D snow leopard (animal and OS) FTW!
XBlackXLabelX 2 years ago 2
Breed them! Don't neuter them! That is one way of ensuring their continuity.
benjiernmd 2 years ago
Our snow leopards cannot be part of captive breeding programs :)
