Also people hear the word DJ they are expecting house, trance, breaks, etc. They don't realize turntablism is a seperate genre from electronic dance music. I mean shit it originated with hip-hop not techno I find DJ battles to draw a much larger influence from hip hop and old school breaks as opposed to house and trance. It is a melting pot anymore as new sub genres keep popping up

Ive also watched a lot of his stuff. All im saying is since scratching on a turn table hit it big in the 80's its always been about scratching AND mixing. Kentaro seems to be about 80-90% mixing, and about 10% scratching. Its sounds cool yes, but how is this guy dominating the DMC with only mixes?

@rushwingate - Let me give you good response. Remember..this was back in 2001. If you breakdown what Kentaro did in this routine at the time, nobody at the time was doing this. He was using the tape on his records and the audio feedback from the DMC mixer to 'create' sounds. Look at the vid closely. He wasn't mixing, he was beat juggling - w/out even touching the records. Other than in the beginning of the set, he only touched the records once - unheard of.

Find the complete vid and you'll probably respect his routine more. BTW, he took 2nd in 2001, and took 1st place in 2002 at the World DMC. His 2002 routine is probably more technically brilliant than most of the current DMC sets...and its nearly 10 years old! Respect to dj kentaro

@ChuckVanDamme when saying that scratching is only in hip hop ur just full of shit man. its used alot in say drum n bass which is the genre that i will be mostly focusing on. you can scratch trance/techno/hardstyle wherever.. it may be most common in the hiphop/breakbeat scene but its used more or less in alot of other genres.
