why can't someone else do all the work for once? It's always the main character who has to defeat the bad guys or save the little girl. I would like a pokemon game where you played as someone other than the main character, like a bad guy or something. Or maybe an executive, or even a legendary pokemon.

Unfortunately no, Johto and Kanto share the same Elite 4. But there are two regions you can visit on this game :)

@piplup97 DeSmumE will lag no matter what. Even in your CPU is a quad-core i5 2.66Ghz, it will lag when there is a lot of 3D material loaded and you're trying to move around.

Setting Frame Skip to Auto 9 is the best bet. It'll reduce the lag a bit by reducing your frame rate.
