i didnt know it started that early on, I was 16 when i first heard Leftoverture,and yes i agree sometimes its disappointing to hear how his voice has changed-its almost unrecognizable really-if i didnt know it was him singing i would never guess, I dont hear any of the sound of his old voice. that being said i saw the band on Friday for the first time in years,and i could tell he was really trying-he sounded pretty good really-heck he is 60-i can live with it. I hope he has conquered his demons
Is Steve the only member of the band who had trouble with drugs? Did it start in 92 and how long did it continue before he got help? The band members act like nothings wrong and hes jumping around like a crazy man! I love Steve but Lord he makes me tired just watching him!
I was at this show and I remember thinking Steve was jumping all over the place and did not sound very good. It was a fun show, but the Steve has sounded much better.
@Helicon2112 Yeah I don't understand. I think Leftoverture is one of the greatest rock albums of all time ( except for 2112 ;) ) and one of the best rock vocals ever. I've yet to find a good live video of Steve sounding good. I have "Device Voice Drum" and it is extremely dissapointing. Anyone know of ANY videos with Steve singing that are of him singing well?? I'd really hate to think that he only sounds good because of the "magic" that happens in the studio.
@nopast68 Steve used to be one of the best rock vocalists of all time. Unfortunately, excesses with drugs and booze lost him his voice. He sounds terrible here and he's trying to make up for it with his antiques, but it just doesn't cut the pie. It's really sad. He used to have a very versatile voice. He could sing straight rock'n'roll and he could also come up with some lyrical stuff where his voice had the most incredible harmonics. Some singers' voices age well. Steve isn't one of them.
@maxauriga Not sure about this tour...but as a rule bands usually do VIDEO on the LAST SHOW DATE or so...so they are tight for the vid...but sometimes the VOICE is gone after a long tour..and these guys did some serious TOURS !
the whiskey concerts was a low time in Steves life. nopast68 are you insane?? havent you listen to anything from the 70's ? Steve was absolutley the best singer of the 70's. But in the 80's he got all drug addicted and his voice disapeard. sorry for my english i am Swedish you se!:D
I don't know but I have never seen a live performance when he sounded good. He was absolutely brilliant in the studio. I can't understand why he is so bad in concert.

@patty51able - Steve's problems ( cocaine particularly) go back to the 70's.
Orig. bassist Dave Hope also had troubles with an addiction to the drug.
Steve's voice is a pale shadow sadly of what it once was.
But given age, past drug addiction, and throat surgery if I'm not mistaken he's doing the best he can.
Hard to listen to @ times as a fan of the group pre "Leftoverture".
I remember hearing their second album "Song For America" as a promo before they hit and really loving it.

NoPaste, don't you have "Two For The Show"? It's all live, and Steve sings his ass off! He is in his prime on that album.

@tmg1968 - Agreed, and the recent 30th Anniversary Expanded double cd edition is really superb.

Walsh has always been energetic on stage, but here he's like a squirrel on meth.

@nopast68 search any youtube video live on the seventies and you'll surprise how good he used to sing live.

How many lines do you think he did before he went on stage. He should stick to grinding his teeth and slow down.
