I thought it odd to be in KY as well. I looked into a bit further and learned that this is basically a suburb of Cincinnati, OH. 5-10 min drive to the heart of Cincinnati

@superdad1118 This was recorded by Eastern Kentucky University Fire Science professors 34 years ago. Reel sat on the self for years until was discovered and transferred from reel to digital format.
I remember seeing the smoke rising from my front porch when this happened back in 77. They showed a list of the people who died on TV a few days after the fire.
In 2000 we went to the site and looked around. It is a dangerous area to walk in. Still a lot of debris and stuff on the ground. There is a huge basement like area uncovered and open so that anyone who is not careful might fall into it.
It appears 30+ years on the owners still have no concern over public safety. It is criminal.
@ThoughtTraveler It's private property, with "no trespassing" signs, so the fact that is isn't safe to walk around in does not mean that the owners have no concern over public safety. It is not criminal. It is criminal to be up there, without consent from the owners. (i cant really judge, i've been up there myself.)
@sycmuzak IMHO I guess I am looking at the realities and not the legalities. The reality is that people (possibly kids) have Human Nature and that means natural curiosity regarding a site of a tragedy. The owners should have been made to fill in the exposed basement at least. Maybe a fence around the place?
I have been there and the local blight ordinance should be enough to force the owners to clean up to what amounts to a rubbish heap.
We are proud of our state in KY and just because we are known as Hillbillies, doesn't equate with uneducated or simple minded. Btw I have seen some seemingly uncivilized and uncoth people in metropolitian cities.
I remember when this happened, and was reported on in the nightly news. Astounding footage. Disturbing.
