Atheism is not a drug, theism is a drug. this priest almost made the entire chain of thought towards the conclusion that it's more fun to live in a dream world with god in it, than in the real world where god isn't.
but this isn't good sense, it's deliberate self-delusion.
surprisingly good rhetoric from him though, it's a shame it hinges around 'I wish a god was here, therefore he is'.
The religious tend to desperately seek differences between humans and nonhumans... they are so disgusted that they would be of the same ilk.
The word "animal" itself has become a derogatory term, associated with violence, lack of empathy etc; which I suspect is why so many humans reject the notion that they are animals. Had the word "animal" become synonymous with the compassion of a weeping mother elephant... then perhaps humans would not be so disgusted when compared to our distant relatives.
I've often thought that many theists understand the implications of atheism far better than most atheists I've encountered. They tend to recognise that our evolutionary origins are something to be horrified by.
I can somewhat sympathize with an inability to accept the reality of evolution; rather than accepting it and portraying our story of origins as wondrous. The former is slightly pathetic; but the latter is evil.
The only thing that disgusts me more than the creationists are the "evolution is majestic and beautiful" atheists who wax mystical about our origins or the universe. Richard Dawkins, for all his faults, makes this point all the time, that the cruel and callous mechanism of natural selection is completely incompatible with a theistic or mystical view of the world.
What is that squeaking noise in the background?

@alex29443 ''Atheism is not a drug''
It depends on the form of atheism. Dawkin's, Kurzweil's and Kaku's form of atheism is I would argue.
''theism is a drug.''
Yes.

Albert Camus is one of my favorite people ever. I thought of myself as an absurdist even before I thought of myself as an atheist or an antinatalist.

@3:35. That image was also in the stained glass church window in LOST Season 6, Episode 18 (finale). Certain imagery sticks in the mind.

Right on DE! This "new atheism" is so superficial. It totally fails at grasping the horror of the human predicament.

You wont see a banner hanging in a mental institution that says "youre all crazy, now stop being crazy."
