  • My boyf. is gonna love this. Even though he's an amazing musician on drums. :)

  • A Stick!

  • if you press '1' it sounds like he says "axe"

  • @drummerman875

after u heard "axe" pres nine... "Axe pelgrim":P

  • my problem is that my thumb has a habit of not leaving any space between itself and my pointer :/ any ideas on how to fix that?

  • This is very well presented. Clear and inofrmative

  • Anyone got any tips how to stop my drum sticks from chipping. I get them off my drum teahcer, is it because they're bad quality. I play light and they stil chip and they break so easily, you see the rock drumemrs and theres chip alot less oftern. Please help.

  • @MrCjfern Play on the heads (tips) of the sticks, not on the necks. I've been playing for nearly three years now, and only broken three sticks (as in one stick of a pair three times). To easily do this, lower your cymbals and you hi-hat, like so: watch?v=wvBRTHxsXCw

  • @MrCjfern

Yah, listen to floating jet and lower our cymbals. Especially hats. Also adjust your snare so you aren't rim shot-ing accidentally. Angle it towards you a bit.

  • very good

  • Why did my drumstick jizz?

  • Note: THIS IS NOT PROPER TECHNIQUE FOR MARCHING, you want your hands closed. This is more for drumset playing.

  • I better get my meat off the other side of the stick...

  • I slept during science class :D

  • 2 videos 8 mins long about gripping drumsticks?....

  • great teaching im 43 and learn easy with u

  • hey thx for dat lesson. really helped.

  • thanks,its help me much

  • I know how to grip my stick...

  • this mother fucker's nasty! :| shit.... lol wrist in neutral and grab the stick by the fulcrum.

  • Thanks for the video. I find it helpful in revising my stick grip as I'm just starting to pick up percussion again after almost half a year's break. Bad grip can cause some wrist pains and injuries. Remember stretching too!

  • LOL why he do an emphasize on the STICK ???? LOL PERV :P

  • I've been drumming for four years but rescently I've been getting blisters on mostly my right forefinger when I play for about an hour. Is it my technique or is it something that is common?

  • @drinkfromthefurrycup ....you may be holding the sticks too tight, or it could be sweat...keeping your hands and fingers dry helps stop blisters......if you can eliminate those two things, then look at stick size. Make sure you use sticks that are comfortable for you, and the size of your hands, in terms of thickness of the stick not length. You can also try using sticks that have no laquer on them, or scrape it off, laquer tends to make sticks slippery, forcing you to hold on tighter.

  • hi there! i am a fellow drummer and im struggling with playing faster on the drums. how do you play with your hands and make the stick go faster with your fingers and hand not so much with your arms?

  • thanks

  • @a8thebait4774

    You're welcome

  • I have to disagree on the gab between the thumb and index finger in the fulcrum when your talking about putting 2 fingers between it. For that does work on somethings but as u get into more complex rudiments such as some inverts and hybrids its best to keep that close. From studying under Bill Bachman its best to stick a quarter or a 50 cents piece between that gap and if it falls out then you know its to much

  • Lol 2:13 to 2:21

  • super duper!

  • How to polish a stick: Start from the point down and go up, and repeat.

  • step one find someones mother with a good sized mouth.

  • u gotta stroke it too hahah

  • This video's name leaded me thinking this was a video on how to do something else...

    Disappointed.

  • lol. that was suprisingly funny. perv

  • Notice the title says "sticks". Plural. You are a weird man.

  • :P "your" can also be plural.

  • Ofc it is in plural. You con't play with one drumstick do you?

  • @Frapsrec def leppard's drummer the one armed bandit does

  • @DrumDestroyer100 And this is a video about his style?

  • @Fluffishy LOL

  • Is this is just one out of several generally accepted methods of ensuring good technique and sound? Thanks!!

  • From Wally Schnalle: We are always more comfortable with our habits (even bad ones) than new ones. Practice and some careful coaching from a good teacher will bring it around. Changes in technique can take many months to concur. But eventually they come become habits as well. Look at your drumming as a long journey....some of this stuff takes time.

  • You're absolutely right! I started playing at the first knuckle and it's a world of difference. I'm also concentrating on getting the right fulcrum out the stick and I feel the response a lot better. I will get into this drumming groove that I've never been able to achieve. I was used to playing at the second and third knuckle for the past 20 years!! Goes to show that I've never had a lick of lessons in my life.

Now the other question: what technique is better. American, German or French?

  • Thanks so much for this. I am a professional drummer that works about 10 dates a month. I recently developed the "drops" and when I looked at my technique and realized I was dropping my sticks due to a lazy grip. I was way to close to the butt of the stick. Your video has helped immensely. My hands have been killing me, but I know its only because I am getting back to basics after straying for quite a while. Thanks again!

  • i can't keep the stick in the first joint knuckle. It always feels more comfortable at the second joint knuckle. Will this affect my playing or this is a wrong technique?

  • From Wally: It's not a "wrong" technique but it does limit the tone and energy you get back from the stick. You'll end up doing less and expending more energy. And as for it feeling more comfortable in the second knuckle...that's because it is your habit. We are always more comfortable with our habits (even the bad ones)

  • Thanks alot for the reply, Wally. This video was a great lesson. I'm a prime example that it's never too late to learn.

I now play the stick at the first knuckle like it's second nature and don't even consider going back to the 2nd and 3rd. It now seems so "wrong".

My next goal is to better the traditional grip playing. I've seen how much more you can do with style of playing as well.

  • I have that snaredrum! it's awesome, i just bought it

  • Thank you for your very helpful video x .

  • at last a good and thorough explantion.. exactleuy what i have been looking for.

    Thank!!!

  • don't choke the stick

  • the only people who think he's being perverted is the ones looking for it...

  • im gonna teach you how to grip the stick lol

  • 2:14 pervert material... he is a useful pervert though

  • wonder if he also likes fish sticks.

  • is your voice disorted?

  • One of the better explanation videos

  • I really like how you clarified the german and french timpani positions. I never knoew what those were, but I found myself using those positions often and wondering which way was "right." Now i know they're both right, but for different things. I had started thinking the french timpani was the all around, but when trying to do double strokes, the german timpani position felt way more comfortable. Now i know why, and what those positions are called. Thanks a lot and great video!!!

  • @brasilianbabii94 yeah totally

  • Alright I have a huge problem. I hold the stick EXACTLY like you have shown, but I get very little help from my pinkie and ring finger in my right hand but no help from my left. What should I do?

  • could you guys do lesson for dazed and confused by Led Zeppelin.

  • the bounce the stick wants to give me

    HAHA

  • "you want to see wood on top and bottom"
