Its quite fitting the Colts got neither the perfect season or a super bowl championship out of 2009. The Colts coaching staff and management basically threw the game against the Jets and spit all over the fans and players in the process. If Caldwell was that intent on resting the starters he shouldn't have lead them on and let them play midway into the 3rd quarter of a tight game before pulling them. They should have spent the whole game on the bench if the plan was to rest them.
If Peyton Manning and the rest of the starters were kept in the game and won and in the same against Buffalo we would've seen another 18-1 season like the 2007 Patriots going undefeated but losing the Super Bowl so you Colts fans should've been happy that didn't happen to you. And Jim Caldwell also said perfection wasn't the key, winning the Super Bowl was. And the Saints needed the Super Bowl more than the Colts did anyways. Peyton and the Colts can wait for another one
I really doubt that, one thing different can change an outcome...the colts were conservative in the jets game and they were conservative in the superbowl (up 10-3. 2:00mins 2 or 3 timeouts)...and like the colts they fall back to their conservative lifestyle that has never proven to work for them, when r they going to learn.. they got conservative as result, spotted saints 3points (10-6)..it was all down hill from there, conservatism doesn't help, when r they going to learn...
Fucking worthless Colts fans, they value their season tickets more than doing whats best for the team. Then They bitch when they lose the Superbowl and go into Colts DEFCOM QQ Level 5 when Manning throws the game losing interception, because hes a fucking interception machine and a Choke artist. Then they try to tell us hes the best ever.... its not his fault he Choked/s.
Well, it was still a good season for Colts. At they weren't embarrassed by losing to the Jets.
Another football note - both the Jets and Vikings made it to the Championship games. So the Jets and Favre have made it to the same level so their trade was even.
see these fans are band wagon fans. oh im a season ticket holder, blah ,blah, blah. I bet none of them were colts fans until they started winning! Go back to Carmel or Fishers and give up your tickets to real fans. Its obvious that you all interviewed are mad about the money ! spoken like true bandwagon jerk fans. you stand by your team and the coach that is a true fan. In Manning we trust not in the mighty dollar
What happened to Peyton's offensive line last night? They lost the superbowl and Peyton Manning and his Stupid Starters were in the game the whole night. Who Dat Who Dat?! Peyton goes doooown. Saints Won go home Colts fans
Saints won fair and square, and I'm actually happy for them. I admit I enjoy a little playful trash-talk before a game, but after a game I believe in giving credit and respect to where its due. I believe in sportmanship. Colts were outplayed, its that simple. My hats off to New Orleans!
Stop Complaining. the freakin Pats are out and you guys are still upset well. You don't see the Patriots complaining? I hope the Jets Upset you guys in the AFC Championship and The Jets have a dangerous Defense and they will go after that girlyman Peyton Manning. It's time to put on his Skirt. J E T S Jets Jets Jets!
Can't wait for the re-match this Sunday. I'm really tired of hearing about how the Jets "beat" the Colts. (nobody "beat" us). Tired of seeing Jets players all puffed up with the idea that having a game "given" to them is something to brag about. I've played alot of sports in my life and never ever felt good about winning by a forfeit, and I never ever bragged about it. I called Colts front office today and told them our ProBowlers should sit out that game. They thanked me for my opinion....LOL
Right On, SSArt98!! One of our players (Colts) could get hurt in the ProBowl too. Do you think the guys will sit that game out so they'll be rested for the SuperBowl?
Even as a Cowboys fan I feel it was a bad move. I don't care what your record is, you play to win. 14-0, homefield advantage, it doesn't matter. You play every game like it counts. Never should you rest your starters unless forced to.
Bears fan, but watch the Colts frequently. The Colts are 14-0 and have an excellent chance to go undefeated for the entire regular season. Instead they give the game away and team management show no pride what so ever. They suck. I hope the Jets play the Colts in the playoffs and beat them again. J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!
Like you said,"It was the managements decision" not the players.I blame Bill Polian & not Coach Caldwell. You play to win & if they were so worried that a starter might get hurt then why in the heck did they play most of them during the last game against the Bills? After the Jets win management said it's not about the records it's the final game(SuperBowl).
Then tell me why they put R.Wayne & D.Clark in the Buffalo game to get they're 100 catches for the season? Remember it only takes 1 play to get hurt.We could've been 19-0 and many know it.
The Colts may be totally out of sync now. Jim Caldwell's decision to rest starters is just like tinkering with a fine tuned motor. When you take some parts out of a motor and replace it with others, the motor may not function as well. Then when you put the original parts back in, they may not respond as well as they did the 1st time.
The Colts rested starters 4 years ago after clinching early. It cost them as they weren't in sync again. Then they lost to Pittsburgh in the playoffs.
It's bad for the NFL. The Colts are destroying NFL history. And they may have thrown themselves, as a team in this fast NFL, out of sink. It's all about timing and momentum. They should know that. Plus all of the interest that thhe NFL could have gained, plus all the fun we all could have had.
this is just ridiculous. with one of the greatest quarterbacks that ever lived, the colts cant go undefeated. Jim Calwell made a horrible choice. they had a chance to make history and just blew it down the drain. this coach will be here for at least 10 more years and he wont let them go undefeated. by the time he quits, peyton manning will be gone and their chance of making history will be over
Let's be real here, You see what happen to the Patriots, We don't want to be like them we want to be better and the only thing I ever wanted was Colts to make it to the play offs and win the superbowl, whats a perfect season if you don't win it all. Anything could happen.
Stop over reacting banwagon homer. You know you'll jump on the Patriots or Colts cock strap when they make the superbowl. The Jets won and you lost. Get over it. You win and lose by coaches chooses. It happens. As a Jet fan i know we could of still been in that game. It was only a 5 point game. ANYTHING could of happened. Get over it you play to win superbowls not records.
I dont know who made the decision to intentionally THROW the jets game, but thats exactly what somebody did. When I bust my tail working months of overtime so I can afford to take my boys to a game I expect a 100% effort. Even my 7yo could tell they werent trying to win. Owners may sign the checks but the fans money pays the salaries. The fans deserve better than this. I wont support the Colts EVER again, wont buy anything with "COLTS" on it. Hope they lose the next 2 games. They deserve it.
joerob300 are stupid they dont even play in the first round moron, first of all and second quit being a bitch pats suck...period brady is wash up now losen his MOJO!!
peyton manning has played in the nfl for almost a decade and as far as i remember was never in an injury. this is absolutely the worst and inopportune time for him to get benched. colts lose momentum heading into their next game and now this stupid controversy will be in the minds of all colts player rather than focusing on the perfect season. head coach shouldve thought about this more before he made this inane call.
It's real simple. Their are many Super Bowl champions. So many that you can't name them all. But guess what, Everybody can point out the 72 Dolphins, because not only are they Super Bowl champions, but they were undefeated. If the Colts win the super bowl people will be even more disappointed because they could have had an undefeated season. I wanted to see Peyton Manning and the Colts move in to Perfectville.
only reason they pulled the starters out was so that the jets could go to the playoffs. dont be surprised if the bengals do the same thing. when the colts were down they didnt even put in their starters. they meant to lose. stupid call by the head coach because he had a perfect record his first season. shameful
If the Colts end up winning the Superbowl this year, it will be known as tainted because they gave up the only game they lost. They could have gone undefeated. I disagree that the Chargers will automatically beat them, although they've had the Colts' number in the past. I think the Colts are at a point where they can beat anyone this year (hence the previously unbeaten record). Either way, who gives up an undefeated season and willingly forfeits an NFL record 23-game winning streak?
I'm a Colts fan, but I'm going to have to agree with you. The Chargers are red hot right now and the Colts needed the momentum of an undefeated season to help them in the playoffs. Now they're in deep trouble come the post-season.
i think anyone who can see the big picture who realize with no good back up QB why blow a superbowl run. they are the best team of the decade and it will be seen this year in the playoffs and the superbowl. No one can stop peyton manning and the overlooked defense. to all the haters get on. true colts fans stick with their team and use logic
they beat the patriots the texans the jaguars the titans the cardinals the bengals and they lost to the jets of all the teams they have played so far why would he take out maning did someone bribe the coach
Everyone gives the Patriot's shit for going 18-1, but at least they had the balls and confidence to go for it. That was an awful display of disrespect for history. The only thing I can attribute that decision to is a lack of confidence; the Colts as an organization didn't want to be compared to the Patriots in that they didn't get it done in the playoffs..... because they believed they couldn't.
I'm not even going to go that deep into it but the Patriots got caught video taping in the first quarter of the first game.... so yeah.
And that's not what i'm talking about. I'm pointing out that the Colts organization is full of the least confident executives in sports. It's a shame. I wanted my Patriots to have a chance to be the team to beat them first.
Don't they get to rest their players during the bye week? To just throw this game away was ridiculous. Five years from now nobody will remember who won the superbowl but the team that had a perfect season will go down in the history books. The Colts will always be remembered for this and it will haunt them.
@SkeeterN no, people will always remember the superbowl champion. never the losers regardless of a perfect season.(unless you lose it in fashion like the pats)

even Manning was pissed! The fact is the coaching staff has forgotten it's always ABOUT THE CUSTOMER! In this case the customer is the loyal fan that comes out and pays for the over priced ticket, drinks, food etc. This is exactly why I stopped watching professional sport and supporting it period.
Its quite fitting the Colts got neither the perfect season or a super bowl championship out of 2009.
