I remember this game as a kid, never could remember the name of it til I came across a Betrayal at Krondor pack that had this with it, brought back a flood of memories, one of my first rpgs.
... This game is what my childhood was made of. <3 I was six when I first played this, and had such a little-kid crush on Aren. "AREN ROCKS HE IS MY FAVORITE MAAAGE!", I would shriek... because the game taught me the word 'mage'.
He's still my favorite mage. :D But now that I'm older, I see his heart belongs to someone else. Who dispenses with formalities when someone has just saved his life. xD
anyone (without disc or the needed windows 3.1) who wants to play this game, send me a message. I can explain how to get the game (maybe even burn it on disc) en wich update you need to play it on windows xp or vista :P
@Sreggaematic09 - Oh my GAWD yes. xD When I was a little kid, it went right over my head... now, replaying it... It's ridiculous. xD William's hitting on Aren the ENTIRE. FREAKING. GAME. Amazing.
I love you for uploading this. Seriously. You have no idea how much I love this old game - and the MUSIC, this CELLO - it just soars, it's wonderful!
... That, and Aren Cordelaine was QUITE LITERALLY the very first boy I ever had a crush on. xD I was... what, eight at the time? Yeah. xD My first love was a fictional farmboy mage. Go me.
Wow, that freakin' bird thing stuck in my mind for ages. LOL William's voice was pretty cool. Couldn't help but laugh at those old 95 sound effects huh? "he ran" *PLOT PLOT PLOT PLOT PLOT* "AHHHHHHHHHH!" XD...good times....I remember picking up the next party character and then dropping this one. Kinda wished I'd have finished it.
I just wish it were better XP-compatible. :( I really miss it.
Yer not really missing much with the ending, honestly. There's... A TWIST OMG!!11one... but aside from that, it's pretty unsatisfying. I'm certain Sierra were planning on making a sequel, hence the open ending, but... well, we all know how well that turned out. xP
Ah, Betrayal in Antara ! I liked this game ! To be fair, though, it had a lot of flaws... the main one being that it was extremely buggy. Near the end, I remember that the game used to crash pretty much at the drop of a hat... A patch was apparently released to correct that, but it only worked for the english version (the rest of the world, apparently, could just go #%&@ itself...). The pictures of the characters could have been much better. And the english voice acting doesn't sound too good...
The things I liked best about BiA were its rich, well-developed setting (much more original than Feist's Midkemia, to be frank) and its interesting and complex story. The magic system was unusual and fun (although I mostly kept using the lightning spells throughout the game...).
I don't think the game did well and it is now much less remembered than Betrayal at Krondor. It's a real pity, in my opinion : I would have loved a sequel (whereas I could have done without Return to Krondor).
The games "Betrayal at Krondor" and "Betrayal at Antara" are some of the best games Sierra has ever made. It's too bad that today's computers would never be able to play them. I really wish Sierra would make modern versions of these games for customers, since even now I want to play these games!
yeah...like freeware now lol. Kinda like how they released Doom95 for free now, right? Hahaha. Why not. If only there was a way to make it compatible. Too bad Sierra is just like everyone else nowadays though. I miss the super-clever and unique adventures of the day. Imagine this game completely remade for like the 360 or today's PCs....wow that'd be epic...LOL
This game, as well as Betrayal at Krondor can be downloaded from gog.com now!

Still my favorite game. Ever. Seriously. I can recite every single word of this opening/chapter 1, by heart. It's a great party trick.

This is definitely one of my top 5 favorite games. Such an amazing title, and one of the best sequels I've ever seen, as well.
