  • So awesome, thanks for sharing, love Woody and Arlo! I got my first union job at 16, traveled the country as an organizer and represent workers today (37 years later). . Oh, and I don't care if you flame me, I am a union maid, and proud of it!

  • Unions gave us the rustbelt.

  • Need to marry you **busizz4me.info**

  • Working my whole life in health care, I have never been fortunate enough to have a union job, but Mrs. Psycho is a retired mail carrier, and I sure know what difference it makes to our lifestyle to have a union worker in the family. It is always a pleasure to say to insurance reps, "Well, my wife is a Fed," and hear them walk back their promise of better health coverage.

And I still hold out hope that my own industry will be organized before I retire.

  • As a disabled retired UNION Postal Worker.I am Union all the way! I have a great retirement due to the Union! I am going to see you Arlo, tonight in Colorado Springs! I am soo stoked. Can't wait to hear Alice's Restaurant and some of your fathers wonderful songs! Peace Brother!

  • @oneofakindaheadnmind Arlo Guthrie in Colorado Springs? That is, these days, a trip into the lions' den. Hope the Dominionists don't lynch him!

  • Happy Labor Day, Thanks you Unions.

  • Arlo is way to smart to be a Republican, I think he was looking at the Ron Paul agenda of ending the unnecessary wars all over the world, you know the wars our country leaders refused to end due to finance contracts that puts money in their pockets over the spilt blood of our children's lives.

It also could have had a little to do with Ron Paul's stance on legalization of marijuana, LOL! Arlo will always be Arlo, is the man!

  • @ejmilchak Ron Paul is a racist nutcase, and Arlo wouldn't have anything to do with him.

  • My father was a Union man. He was also a small business owner. He knew the importance of Unions and believed the Union made him a better businessman.

He was also a lifelong Republican, however, the Republican party back then was much farther to the Left than it is today. He would be appalled by what is done today under the banner of "Republican".

  • Great song! I had a 30-year career as an investigator with the NLRB. My dad was a long-time member of the UAW. I was involved with the last two major UMWA strikes of the 20th Century and the Ravenswood (West Virginia) Aluminum strike. Labor peace through law.

  • I enjoyed your' music video !

  • Even to this day, I am sticking to the union

  • worlds strongest redneck thinks this is a very cool story BYYYYEEEE!

  • i'm i rite in thinking this tune is called "redwing" as sung by buell kazee ?

  • Nice.

  • did y'all know Arlo was a Republican?

  • Not anymore!

He tried that. It didn't work.

He thought those guys needed some good guys over there.

It all comes down to the "people vs the big corporate guys."

Some body said, "We have the best congress that money can buy."

  • @jguth3

doesn't that make the problem, a congress that can (wants to be) be bought?

It forces every company to lobby for representation. Unions have just as many lobbyists as corporations. It's not a red and blue issue, it's a red and blue vs freedom issue.

  • He supported Ron Paul in 2008! My kinda guy.

  • @diddymuck

Your're a rather stupid f-ck to even imagine that the regulars on this conversation wil give ou slightest attention. Youi're busted ..

    Meanwhile, all others, well, bloom

  • @9duryea9 you're mean. Whaaaaaaaa. Sniffle.

  • @diddymuck

    Please, please, no!

I have always relied on this famiiy and have so much more as the clan expands.

Right turns and U-turns work only to maijntain the hierarchy.

  • like to hear Sarah do some banter!

  • I've heard her do some.

  • I like this one even more.

  • Happy Labor Day. Fight on!

  • This is great, and the last part had me LMAO!

  • Arlo for President!

  • Great song! Our union days will be back soon with the Employee Free Choice Act which will become law in 2009.GrannyLin hit the nail right on the head with the comment posted. GO UNION!

  • Where will this end? Serfdom? Revolution?

  • It is not easy being union. Companies go bankrupt so they can dodge their bills & rid themselves of union workers. Owners & Bankers make so much money they think they are above us. You can't find an American made toy or American made car! The unions gave us the middle class, the middle class made capitalism work, capitalism made the bosses wealthy and America was strong. Now the greed for more riches sent jobs overseas & now the middle class crumbles, owners & bankers keep making more & more.

  • GO UNIONS....Go TEAMSTERS!

Without unions ...you can see now where we would be....EVEN management...All our rights comes from the fights the Unions won back in the 1930s...before and since. Democracy=Unions.

  • Local 413 brother, I hear ya keep fighin'!

  • @greenwoodtea

As a twenty one year Teamster veteran and shop steward, I've got to agree with you.

  • Oh you can't scare me,

    I'm sticking to the union,

    I'm sticking to the union,

    I'm sticking to the union,

    Oh, you can't scare me,

    I'm sticking to the union,

    I'm sticking to the union,

    til the day I die.

  • Oh, there once was a union maid,

    who never was afraid,

of the goons and the ginks,

    and the company finks,

and the deputy sheriffs who made the raids.

She went to the union hall,

where a meeting it was called,

and when those company boys came around,

    she'd always stand her ground.

  • guthrie/seeger/weavers/leventhal

  • I'm the daughter of a steelworker; I know the importance of unions...I just wish everyone understood why they matter.

  • As someone who comes from 3 generations of coal miners, I completely agree.

  • Arlo's introductions are legendary and his guitar playing is nice!

  • Woodie is my hero. I thank him for beginning a movement for working people that lives on in his beautiful songs and children.

    COW

  • thanks for the vid.

Sarah Lee!!! I love you. So beautiful and talented.

  • Not to be cynical but Gibson outsources a lot of jobs to China. Are the Arlo and Woody Guthrie signature models "stickin' to the union?"

  • Dfrye4,

Arlo plays Gibson USA brand guitars. We are aware the The Gibson Company does outsource to other countries. We however do not play nor endorse those guitars.

    Thank you for your concern.

    ~The Guthrie Family

  • wow! wonderful stuff

  • Fun! That's a lovely and talented daughter you have. They play well together.

  • Woody would really be proud of these kids , I guess that talent is actually inherited .

  • Arlo gets to have me in his audience in Durham, NC in February. I am sure it will make his day. It will make mine, that's for damn sure...

  • Jackie - I can see every video of yours but this one. I have tried repeatedly and only get the spinning wheel of death - well the spinning wheel of "You can't see it." Can you recheck this video? I love all of them (especially the Shade of the Old Apple Tree!)

    Thank you so much

    Miss Mary

  • thanks for this video!

    *****

  • Great Video. I saw Arlo Guthrie for the first time a couple of years ago at the Ottawa Folk festival. Great music and what an entertainer he is.

    Rocket

  • I think I'm in love with sarah!

  • that was a great show i cant wait to go back
