So awesome, thanks for sharing, love Woody and Arlo! I got my first union job at 16, traveled the country as an organizer and represent workers today (37 years later). . Oh, and I don't care if you flame me, I am a union maid, and proud of it!
Working my whole life in health care, I have never been fortunate enough to have a union job, but Mrs. Psycho is a retired mail carrier, and I sure know what difference it makes to our lifestyle to have a union worker in the family. It is always a pleasure to say to insurance reps, "Well, my wife is a Fed," and hear them walk back their promise of better health coverage.
And I still hold out hope that my own industry will be organized before I retire.
As a disabled retired UNION Postal Worker.I am Union all the way! I have a great retirement due to the Union! I am going to see you Arlo, tonight in Colorado Springs! I am soo stoked. Can't wait to hear Alice's Restaurant and some of your fathers wonderful songs! Peace Brother!
Arlo is way to smart to be a Republican, I think he was looking at the Ron Paul agenda of ending the unnecessary wars all over the world, you know the wars our country leaders refused to end due to finance contracts that puts money in their pockets over the spilt blood of our children's lives.
It also could have had a little to do with Ron Paul's stance on legalization of marijuana, LOL! Arlo will always be Arlo, is the man!
My father was a Union man. He was also a small business owner. He knew the importance of Unions and believed the Union made him a better businessman.
He was also a lifelong Republican, however, the Republican party back then was much farther to the Left than it is today. He would be appalled by what is done today under the banner of "Republican".
Great song! I had a 30-year career as an investigator with the NLRB. My dad was a long-time member of the UAW. I was involved with the last two major UMWA strikes of the 20th Century and the Ravenswood (West Virginia) Aluminum strike. Labor peace through law.
doesn't that make the problem, a congress that can (wants to be) be bought?
It forces every company to lobby for representation. Unions have just as many lobbyists as corporations. It's not a red and blue issue, it's a red and blue vs freedom issue.
Great song! Our union days will be back soon with the Employee Free Choice Act which will become law in 2009.GrannyLin hit the nail right on the head with the comment posted. GO UNION!
It is not easy being union. Companies go bankrupt so they can dodge their bills & rid themselves of union workers. Owners & Bankers make so much money they think they are above us. You can't find an American made toy or American made car! The unions gave us the middle class, the middle class made capitalism work, capitalism made the bosses wealthy and America was strong. Now the greed for more riches sent jobs overseas & now the middle class crumbles, owners & bankers keep making more & more.
Without unions ...you can see now where we would be....EVEN management...All our rights comes from the fights the Unions won back in the 1930s...before and since. Democracy=Unions.
Arlo plays Gibson USA brand guitars. We are aware the The Gibson Company does outsource to other countries. We however do not play nor endorse those guitars.
Jackie - I can see every video of yours but this one. I have tried repeatedly and only get the spinning wheel of death - well the spinning wheel of "You can't see it." Can you recheck this video? I love all of them (especially the Shade of the Old Apple Tree!)

@ejmilchak Ron Paul is a racist nutcase, and Arlo wouldn't have anything to do with him.

Not anymore!
He tried that. It didn't work.
He thought those guys needed some good guys over there.
It all comes down to the "people vs the big corporate guys."
Some body said, "We have the best congress that money can buy."

We are born with rights. The unions didn't give them to us. Also, America isn't a Democracy, it's a Constitutional Republic.

Oh, there once was a union maid,
who never was afraid,
of the goons and the ginks,
and the company finks,
and the deputy sheriffs who made the raids.
She went to the union hall,
where a meeting it was called,
and when those company boys came around,
she'd always stand her ground.

Not to be cynical but Gibson outsources a lot of jobs to China. Are the Arlo and Woody Guthrie signature models "stickin' to the union?"
