Colin writes about his first appearance on his website that he almost didn't make such impression to be drafted there again. (If he wasn't, that would have changed the world, my friends :-).)

He seems not to be excellent and as splendid as on latter episodes, but hey - it was nearly 20 years ago, and the UK series had a little different 'smell' than the american one.

i do remember him saying something about that and when he auditioned the first time he auditioned(i think when ryan auditioned), he was rejected...

but his first appearance was really not bad.. mainly was because of the other three performers... none overshadowed the other and each seemed to help colin with his first appearance.

You are both right.

He didn't pass the auditioned the firs time around. Ryan managed to get him a second audition, which he passed and consequentially did this taping. However, the producers were not thrilled with him and didn't want to use him again. Ryan again came to his rescue, asking them to put them together in a taping. And the rest... is history.

@SupperVix Not exactly right. The first time he tried out he didn't make it. Ryan was in England when Colin tried out the second time in California. Then he was brought to England for this taping and they didn't want him. when Ryan became a regular, they needed someone to fill another slot, so Colin tried out again and the rest is history. Ryan and Colin worked together for years before either one of them was known on Whose Line.
