  • why was he angry? i couldn't hear.

  • 2:00 red socks? Come on man!!!

amazing movie though, would recommend to most people!

  • that intervewer was soo right the film was incredibly beautiful in more ways than one.

  • love how keira knightley says "i don't want to dictate it" she really understands

    james mcavoy is so hot

  • James' accent... I think I've died and gone to heaven :D

  • this movie got me obsessed with james mcavoy. like oh my god. He's AWESOME

  • I want to have James all to myself... Or at least that guy in my chem lecture that looks a LOT like him... It's actually pretty amazing... It's almost like the real thing.

Btw this movie was just... Mam have no words for it...:'( poor James.

  • I wanna marry Keira :-)

  • Keira Knightley is a stunning, absolutely beautiful and intelligent young lady. The concept of beauty is not just in appearance, it's something more complex. Keira is not just a beautiful doll. Look into her always laughing smart eyes. Note how humble she is in interviews despite all her celebrity...She is boyish and feminine at the same time, it's unique. And I guess, that's this complexity that makes Keira so exceptional and so loved by people from all over the world.

  • @amadv I'm sorry to break your dream, but one day she will be old and not really attractive and then she will die, like everyone.

  • @666ocelot

Your ignorant comment proves that you didn't understood mine at all. I repeat: beauty isn't just a pretty face, it's inner beauty, it's also conduct...it's complex. And such INNER beauty remains. I definitely know that one day she will day as well as all the other people, I don't idolize her (Allah forbid!), just like her as a person.

  • What were those biscuits he gave her?

  • haha why does Keira Knightley have a flat mate??

  • @passionrussian21 Lol, Adriana Lima isn't that good looking. There are lots of better looking actresses than her.

  • does anyone know what that song is that starts at 3:36? It's so pretty!

  • This is one of the most... i don't know what the right word is, but it's a beautiful film. I have one question: what is the song which you hear when James McAvoy (or Robbie) listens to when he's trying to write Cee a letter? I hope someone knows!!!

  • I couldn't sleep at night because of this movie, it was depressing, yet so good. Love it.

  • I love her hair in the movie

  • keira says something about watching the movie and having a pizza afterwords and talking about it but i dont think i'd be able to eat anything after watching it for at least a couple of hours. you just cant forget it that fast...

  • @parisgala what she really meant to say wasn't about eating but simply about having discussions with your friends about the movie. which means the exact opposite of "forgetting"

  • They should get together :)

  • I came out of the movie theater, as McAvoy says, angry, furious. I set my mind to forget about this movie as fast as possible because it was so excruciatingly beautiful but too painful, with two gorgeous fantastic actors.

  • Keira Knightley... By far the most beautiful woman in the world. But disappointing that she smokes :(

  • What did the reporter give Knightley?

  • It's still a weak rumor now but does anyone have any evidence that Keira could get a role in "Wanted 2"? A fansite said she's trying to beat out the others for it. I think pairing her with James McAvoy could work well since they were in "Atonement" together. BTW, you should see "Wanted." It's just badass!!

  • Wonder what would happen if you mixed McAvoy, Macfayden and Knightley all in one movie!!! Would someone please start writing a script for that combo...guaranteed winner!!!

  • Man i just watched that movie like RIGHT NOW! Dude. Im pissed, sad, teary eyed. GOOOSH! and James McAvoy.... Damn!

  • I am so in love with James Mcavoy that it is actually insane!

this movie was one of the most moving and relevant movies ever made!

Heartbreaking, romantic and epic! a must watch!

    acting is incredible too!

    <3

  • 0:12 and 0:18.. So cute!! Gorgeous movie, one of my faves!!!!

  • Great interviews. Very eomtional and powerful film.

  • James McAvoy, how my heart breaks every time i see you ..... ahhhhhh

  • i wish we called the theater cinema in america, although it wouldn't have that cool british/european accent to it so it wouldn't sound as good. maybe i just really liked the way he said cinema

  • they should be in more mmovies together. i really like them to be a couple

  • love james and love keira :)

  • love james Mcavoy, and no Briony does not achieve atonement. I too am "as angry as hell"

  • 3:17 O fu... have you!

  • james please come and kiss me like keira...

  • he is so lucky to kiss Keira. Was that pubic Hair once she got out of the water? Im confused.

  • I LOve Kiera !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • keira so lucky!!! she kissed james!! the best kisser?? *sigh* who would doubt that?!! haha loved the movie !

  • this book is so different to the film. It is so much better, the film shows cee and robbie as the main characters but in the book Briony is obviously the protagonist. And she doesn't deliberately wrongly convict Robbie, she does it because she believes it is robbie.

McEwan doesn't show Briony as completely guilty, he puts it down to her youth and imagination. I mean she isn't a lovely character but she is not horrible. If you love the film you will love the book more.

  • I wept for this movie. I've ordered the book from Amazon. Would be getting it soon. A lot of things appeared in the movie which according to the author is an add up to pease the ired readers.

  • keira and james' are not only fantastic actors, but as an american, listening to their speaking voices is just incredible. i just love their accents, they are so soothing to me.

  • 3.18.. ooh f... hhah

  • I lovee james mcavoy's accent XD

  • loved this movie :) made me cry

btw..what's tablet? is it a cookie?

  • my favourite movie, period! james and keira are flawless in it, they make such an awesome couple too! (pity it's only in the reel world) seriously, such a though provoking movie. they sure did they book justice! whoever hasn't ought to read the book. it's my favourite book too. :D

is it just me, or is this interviewer pretty good? i think he's really good at dealing with the actors, actually.

  • I think so too, he seems like he knows what he's doing

  • yea .hes pretty confident

isnt affected by the stars' shine

    y i jst wanna

    get down on my knees

    unzip him and just

    ^#$&^@%

  • This was GREATTT. My favorite actors ARE Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, so this worked out... I watched this again last night. And cried. For an hour. x.x

  • Aw! I love Keira! She's so cool! Really down to earth!

I love how she said "wicked!" haha

  • james mcavoy♥

  • I love how Keira said "wicked!" :D ":D

They say it in ALL british films...harry potter, love actually....I LOVE IT!

    :p :D

James McAvoy makes me swoon. =]

  • @frangapanian i guess ur right! she also says wicked in bend it like becham

  • @frangapanian i love british exclamations ...wish i could say them all the time but it would sound weird here

  • i loved tha film and the book..it's a wonderful story..

  • if you looks at knightley against the sunlight she is transparent

  • i cried

  • James McAvoy voice-overs the new Samsung Jet commercial! Check it out on the SamsungUk YouTube channel!

  • can anyone tell what james mutters at 1:58-2:00??

  • "may she burn in hell?" not 100% sure

  • she guilty as hell, let her burn in hell

i got as soon as i got your suggestion =)

  • She's guilty as hell, I will let her burn in hell.

  • absolutely beautiful movie!! top notch acting as well, its where i basically fell in love w. james mcavoy

from the movie i definitely think Briony maliciously tells a lie... but reading the book it felt like she believed what she said but then even when she realized she was wrong she didnt do anything to fix it so its still pretty impossible to forgive her..

what an amazing story for it to make people think as much as this one does!

  • Briony didnt knoe what she had done when she gave that letter to the police. So I really think her cousin is the one to blame she should have confessed up right then and there!

  • lola didnt see his face- i have read the book and seen the movie..... in both lola didnt see her attackers face, briony on the other hand chose to see robbie on that night, but i do agree when you said she really didnt know what she was dong- she was only 13

  • wats tablet?

  • xD he always says that Briony should burn in hell...I kind of think so too...xD

I cried soooo much watching this movie...but i think even though Briony is totally to blame she didn't maliciously ruined their lives...it was all a big fat misunderstanding...i think that's why is so freaking sad....Even so i do not forgive her xD just for the fact that even though she understood the wrong she did she was too much of a coward to trying fix it...

  • i love this movie! its so sad, and i cried.

  • Hah, I love Kiera Knightly, she has a sense of humor, which is more than you can say for most actresses. :)

Plus, I obviously love James McAvoy, because he's a brilliant actor, and VERY charming, the character he plays comes near to my favorite character of his, but my favorite EVER is Steve from Shameless. :)

  • "It's all mine!" Whuaha! xD

  • Great movie. Great.

  • Scotland is in Britain..

  • He is Scottish and British - like me.

  • oh, okay

    thanks guys! :]

  • yeah...i like that green dress as well. the narrator calls the lie and tragic misunderstanding. it wasn't a misunderstanding it was an out and out lie. i can't even watch that scene...i have to fast forward past it. i just want to wring briony's neck for lying...ugh! makes me ill. the little girl who played briony at 13 was brillant though and that accent was perfection (she's american). James--my ideal--was perfection all around, and keira held her own quite nicely.

  • Nah, don't be too hard to her... she did not understand, that the sex between her sister and the lover is not forced by him. She thinks that he harms her sister and wants to protect her. So being a child with a vivid imagination, she sees what she wants to see... this becomes clear when she talks to her cousin after the deed.

    Lovley film!

  • it was revealed that she had a major crush on Robbie, loved him infact, she admits it later while she's training to be a nurse. so i always took the stance that she was jealous and felt spurned.

I understand our p.o.v though. She was 13 as well, like she had imagined in the confrontation with Robbie and Cecila...how old you have to be to know the truth? 18? Her guilty conscious caused her to imagine that...she knew she had lied.

  • The girl who plays Briony was born in the States but is Irish. He parents are both Irish and she grew up in Ireland.

  • James Mcavoy is a class act, a class act. The modern gentleman isn't dead yet.

  • Idc what anybody say, but I somewhat believe that James got it on with Keira. Yes I know James has his wife and Keira has her boyfriend, but there's just no way that two people who have their own significant others are that affectionate towards each other.

  • yess! im gonna go and watch it for the billionth time right now!! even tho i get soo frustrated with the little girl every time...

  • i like how he says "angry" at 2:52

  • i love thiis movie!

  • omg james mcavoy is sooo cute his lil smileeee (L)

  • Americans on here still not getting it. You can be English & British AND Scottish & British. Both countries are part of the UK. Keira is English & James is Scottish & they are both British!

Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister is Scottish. As someone with links to both it does my head in when people equate Britain=England.

  • I get it. Any one who has taken a world history or european history class should know better.

  • tablet is well good!

  • What exactly is tablet?

  • like fudge but harder n soooooo much nicer!!

  • what r they called?

  • basically solid sugar :P its so nice on its own or dipped in coffee or hot chocolate!

  • Tablet it amazing! its basically sugar and condensed milk but its tooo nice! I'm craving it now!

  • aw that interviewer warms my wee scottesh heart!

  • This have to be the best love letter I've ever seen.

Aside from the funny part, the movie is absolutely brilliant. The production, the actors, the story and the soundtrack. The end leaves such a sweet, and painful feeling.

  • vital! hahaha Think uv been smoking it ...

    James ur great!

  • Scotland is Beautiful!! The Air there makes people vital!

  • i LOVE james mcavoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is so fricken hot. is he british or is he scotish???just wonderin.

  • HES SCOTISH

  • Gaun yersell hen! He is Scottish and like Annie Lennox proves that the Scottish accent is loved everywhere! Be proud but it doesn't mean we dislike English people!

  • Lol scottish is british, at least technically speaking

  • Yeah, Luciabun is correct, haha. But he's from Scotland, as well as the interviewer.

  • keira knightley play english roses beautifully.

  • Keira is the prettiest girl I've ever seen and she's so nice. It would be nice if she put on a bit of weight, though

  • too right.

  • its harder than it seems... i have the EXACT same frame as she does. i've weighed the same for the past 6 years and can't gain any weight and i eat a ton. it may seem to people that your not eating enough or are starving yourself but the truth is some people are just naturally that thin. i LOVE her this movie is so awesome and artistic from the music to the acting and cinematography. it follows the book exactly too, brilliant.

  • to be honest its gr8 being naturally thin, but bad being anorexic. Sorry if I insulted you

  • aw i love this interview <3

and what is a tablet? im not scottish so it would be great if someone would let me know lol

  • Tablet's made from condensed milk & sugar, I'm pretty sure it is any way. It's really sweet and kinda just melts in your mouth. You should get some :)

  • oh wow that sounds good! i want some now lol

  • there are not many actors out there, who for their sole purpose of participating in a film, would i watch it, but i can now add Keira and James to the list!! I will watch any movie that they are in, solely for the reason, that this movie, has solidify them as very talented actors!

  • loved the movie, keira was beautifully portrayed as a young woman, and James, oh james, beautiful beautiful performance!!

  • She's so down to earth. Wow.

  • Oh, man, the amount of people who are saying that James isn't British is almost laughable. Scotland is a part of Britain, sweeties.

Anyway, lack of general intellect aside.

James and Kiera are both such sweeties! And amazing actors. The film is so compelling and thought provoking, and beautifully acted. And it helps that James is a bit of a hottie. Ahem.

  • Yeah, you would think that with the current British prime minister who is Scottish - more would get it.

  • One of the best interviews for the film, and I think I've watched almost all of them!

  • I love this movie. James Mcavoy is like my new favorite actor. And Keira Knightley has been my fav actress forever! It's such a beautiful story, and Joe Wright did a fantastic job directing it! just like he did in "Pride and Predjudice!"

  • God I love this film. :D James McAvoy is so fine.

  • maravillosa película

  • that cigarette scene is one of the most painfully beautiful things i've ever seen in a film.

  • ???

    When was it funny??

  • C'mon... Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I personally found myself crying at the end of it. But my boyfriend who was sitting right next to me was laughing his ass off. I didn't agree with him. And I do admit I was upset with him for laughing at me and the movie. But I didn't penalize him for it. He has his own opinion about the film just like vashti4ever does.

  • I agree that i wasn't funny. It was a very emotional movie, of course, but at the end of the movie, I found myself half crying half laughing but I had no idea why until now. I realized that so many horrible things could happen with one childish mistake, and then that "childishness" was dramatized at the end when I saw Briony (not to give anything away). What I'm trying to say is: the movie not was comical, but the reasons WHY Robbie's and Cecilia's lives were ruined, in some sense, were.

  • You make a good point. It really is sort of bizarre. And really sad, that would have really sucked. (Lol- understatement.)

  • Just like life, it was funny and tragic. It was hilarious when the dude realized he'd sent the wrong letter to the girl via the nosy little sister, and was screaming at her but it was too late, she was already off reading it. It was tragic he got blamed for the rape and his life sucked. No, it wasn't a comedy, but it had comedic moments i felt gave the movie a beautiful quality.

  • So sweet!

  • he just looks so boyish ? he is no sean connery

  • i don't think she said thank you

  • I'm scottish and James Mcavoy sounds just like my cousin Ruaidhri its uncanny!!!

  • i loooooove jame's macavoy's sexy scottish accent, omg he's amazing- completley aggree with him too, it is depressing and yet uplifting at the same time- absolutely have to agree- it's such a good film

  • Back me up on this one: JAMES MCAVOY FOR SPIDER-MAN 4!!!!! He would be the perfect Peter Parker!

  • definitely one of the best movies i've ever seen. keira & james did an amazing job!

  • it is one of the best movies i have ever seen

  • To consider Titanic more entertaining than Atonement, you'd have to have the emotional range of a tea spoon.

Atonement, unlike the Titanic, does not present it's audience with a sappy love story, but a carefully structured work of technique (on Joe Wrights behalf), and various levels of consciousness.

Simply watching the movie will not explain to you what is happening within the characters and the plot.

    You have to think.

  • i cannot even believe that you called Titanic, which made 600 MILLION dollars at the box office, a "sappy love story". It was heartbreaking and REAL.

You should not have to think so much. In the film industry, anyone making a movie should know that not everyone understands "thinking movies". The plot should be a little evident and obvious. If it is not, then that makes for one very choppy, disoriented film.

at the end of Titanic, i cried. At the end of Atonment, i rolled my eyes. Honestly.

  • You say you hated the movie yet this is like the third video on YouTube that you've commented on in relation to Atonement.

With that, I think what you say is false. This isn't a comparison topic between Atonement and Titanic. So please, save it. I think you need to recheck whether or not you really hated the movie or not.

    Regardless, everybody disagrees with you.

  • Wow, obsessed much? You actually checked all the videos?? XD

I am not comparing Atonement to Titanic, because there is no comparison!

And only the people on the Atonement comment boards disagree with me, although everyone is secretly thinking "why did I waste my time? I just lost 2 hours of my life and I'm in a shitty mood! This SUCKS!!"

By the way, I only commented on 3 videos because I wanted to see the response I would get. So far, it's just a bunch of emo prudes who have talked.

  • at least we have something in common.. we both love the joker!!!

  • well, if you thought titanic was a bad movie, i guess even our love of the joker can't make us similar in any way! XD

    fuck you.

  • yeah we're not similar because i don't use vulgar words as you do to talk with people!!! keep it up with your polite vocabulary!!

  • i'll use "vulgar words" if i want to. and to me, swearing is just natural, and not as offensive as most people take it to me. sorry if you took it so personally.

but i guess u must be a guy cause most guys think titanic is stupid, and most girls think it's beautiful.

and if you ARE a guy, i bet u only liked atonement cause of keira in that scene in the library! xp

  • no darling... i'm happy to say that i'm a girl! so no i didnt see atonement for keira nor for the library scene... i saw it because its a good movie!!!

  • wow......

    WOW.........

you really have some fucked up taste in movies, unfortunately. :-/

  • if you dont like my tastes doesn't mean they are fucked up! :P

  • ok ur right whatever

  • I don't like Titanic either and I am a girl. Atonement is an incredible movie.

  • ah at last someone who agrees with me.. thank you!

  • I completely agree with you, you've worded this brilliantly.

  • you have a lot te learn if you think this movie was bad. movies are not made to make you happy, it's art.

  • i agree, not every movie is happy. sad movies CAN be art. but what i'm saying is the movie didn't flow in a beautiful way. it didn't build they're relationship until it registered more emotionally to the audience. the story was too cold and bitter and it wasn't.... it wasn't really a tearjerker. it was a little too blunt in it's delivery is all i'm saying.

  • this movie was bad.... ARE YOU SERIOUS??!! this is a masterpiece! in my opinion titanic sucked... why does leo di caprio have to die in every single film??!!! so stupid!!

  • Are you American? Because this comment obviously comes from someone who wants glazed movies with ending phrases like "...and they lived happily ever after." I know Titanic wasn't like that but it was still melodramatic and hardly moving. Only someone who was stupid would call Atonement movie stupid, and what's wrong with a sad ending? It's incredibly refreshing actually, I hate all these Hollywood American endings, it gets so tedious.

  • What's with all this hate you have against Americans?

I'm an American, born and bred. I loved this film. I bought the book afterward and absolutely adored that as well - wrote a 10pg paper on it.

This movie is definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Including Titanic... I love that movie also.

So why would you comment on a person's ignorant remarks and immediately assume that they are an American?

  • Well, most American FILMS have happily ever after endings, and a lot of British films have sad endings. Also a lot of Americans don't like endings to movies like Atonement.

The Movie Pride and Prejudice had a different ending in America, ending with Lizzy and Darcy married, instead of just Mr Bennet's approval of their marriage. The Americans wanted to change THE word in Atonement to something less forceful, but Joe Wright wouldn't let them because it wouldn't have had the impact

  • For every American film that has a happy ending, there is one that has a not so happy ending. You need to get your facts straight and do your homework a little bit better than that. Don't talk about things that you obviously know nothing about.

  • Donnie Darko is one of my favourite movies. It's American and has a sad ending, I KNOW not ALL American films have a happy ending. god I'm sorry I ever said anything, everyone's so sensitive.

  • we spent the evening unpacking books from boxes you passed me up so as not to break a promise

  • yeah, maximo park!

  • woo!

  • Oh, stop generalizing. My friends and myself loved this movie and are Americans. As a matter of fact, I like it better in movies when they don't tie a pretty red bow around the ending. I like a juicy or not so happy ending. It is much more satisfying. And in most great love stories that DON'T end up together.

What, you spoke to a few Americans who didn't like it and assumed that they all come to the same conclusion??

    *snickers*

  • Oh my god, O.K., every American loves this movie and loves both happy and sad endings, happy?

I am so sick of having this stupid youtube argument.

  • ? are you American? Really?

  • I feel exactly the same way as James McAvoy - I was really angry at the end of the movie (as well as extremely sad)and I was really angry at Briony - she ruined the lives of two people!

ha ha Keira Knightly is so funny.

  • Would they have been happy without Briony?

Perhaps you only get love if you lie, if you sacrifice the truth for your
