  • One question. Do u use split foot or both feet together?

  • @Prieget i tend to use split feet, although ive started to dive slightly further into the kong part in my ones now. keeping your legs together, or "boxing" it, takes away most of you momentum, which looses you half of the distance

  • the secret for this is to run like hell and have the body bent, and use the arm as much as possible, then tuck your feet and spot your landing. try to get as much speed as possible

  • thanks guy. i really needed this tutorial. this is one of the hardest moves for me lol

id suggest maybe trying this on a wall first. fences used to put me off without me realizing, but walls always work grand for me

all i can say is keep trying them, and keep adding speed. the thing of taking off with both feet is a way of slowing yourself down, just like a jump stop. its great for upward momentum, but not forward, which is what you need for the kong to precision

id still suggest the staggard take off stance. when you put your feet together (box jump) your momentum is changed from forwards to upwards. what you need for upward and forward momentum is a 45 degree angle of take off. this, according to physics, is the optimum angle for both distance and height to meet its maximum potential. you want to keep moving forwards at the object and use the dip and your hands to pop upwards

the other thing you need is speed. the faster you go, the less likely you are to plant both your feet before the kong. you need to ween yourself away from doing that. itll pay off in the long run if you do

as for the dip before you kong, its necessary for height. just remember your dipping so you can come up over the wall at a 45 degree angle. id does help a lot, but dont over do it. if you feel like youre gonna run into the wall?fence, id say you might be exaggerating the dip

  • @PULLINGCHIMP1

just keep at it. you wont get this over night, but once you start, theyre easy to advance with

  • @t1mc23c thanks man. Yeah, I used to be really good at the staggared stance kongs! That was back when I first started practicing in 2007! Now my mind doesn't seem to want to let me do it anymore. I can still get a lot of speed but I see what you're saying. I'm 35 now, I think it's just a mental block. Hah! Thanks for the tips! It's just going to take some more practice to re-train the brain!

  • @PULLINGCHIMP1

theres one other thing i noticed helps a bit. i was looking at a clip of me doing a kong to pre there for my next vid (not online yet) and i noticed i dived from about two feet before the thing i was konging. this helps with the speed and take off, and id say itd help with the block of hitting the object your konging. im not sure if that is helpful, but id say its worth a shot.

infact, i have a friend who only dive kongs to pre, he never monkey to pres the object

  • @PULLINGCHIMP1

    .......

as for that video of the "monkey to pre", that technique is quite horrid. its quite dangerous to pop and keep your feet so close to the wall. you need to get your feet higher then that, and pop harder + earlier with your hands. otherwise, you will faceplant

also. if you watch it again, you can see that that fellow wouldnt have any trouble simply box-jumping that wall and landing on the other, and you see he doesnt use his arms as much as he should. use your arms

  • if you take off with both feet together it may be harder to kick and get a good distance for the presicion after the kong. Usually it depends of the obstacle's height, but in order to gain power you'll need to take off with your chest and head as down as the obstacle everytime you can, and also doing it with feet split, like with 2 steps, allows you to kick with the second leg and gain height and distance.

  • Dude thanks! lol I didn't actually think about tucking before the jump to get more power and height! Great tutorial man!

  • @FlipTheFreeRunner

    no worries man

    now keep at it

  • Very nice. Thanks dude, was really helpful. Will try your method as soon as I get the chance =]

  • @NorthEastFlow

it takes a while to get them. something that helped me was i got a wall that i could kong, the i put a coat on the ground in front of it. id kong from before the coat, and keep moving it back every few tries

but in the end, dive kongs take a lot of courage. like, i can kong to pre as far as i can dive kong in most cases

just keep at it tho, and dont push too far too fast

  • best tutorial i've seen

  • VERY nice tutorial that will help those who are wondering why they can't get it.
