My dad always used to take me to the Video Machine that used to sit in the old K-Mart at Bayview Village (Bayview & Sheppard, Toronto). I remember going to the side of the machine and flipping through the giant movie posters of what the machine was offering that week.
OMG! I helped "produce" this movie! I actually *held* the credit card as it entered the Amazing Video Machine! I working with the business dev team ... oh, those were the days! THANKS for posting this - brought back some really great memories! :)
I used to work for this company from 1987 until 2000. There were other commercials like these. There was a original machine that was red and had the movie pictures on a banner that went around when you pressed an arrow button. I helped make these in Oakville at a company named Selox and then went to AVM to fix them. They were trashed for this black American made model made by Diebold, a ATM machine maker. Porn was 50% of our income and I usually had a van load in my driveway. LOL.
It was a Canadian invention actually. They always seemed to be in Sak's locations across Toronto up until awhile back. It was funny, because they had new releases, but were chocked with porn. My copy of "Sex Lives of Clowns" came from one!
I remember the one by Leslie & Lescon (I think, just south of Van Horne & right before the Villaways & Sheppard). It was in the Kitchen Food Fair & it was also how I was able to first watch Wrestlemania III
I remember there was one of these in the convenience store that used to be on Bay and Charles Street. There was a row of New Releases, a row of Disney, and the rest was porn.

Holy shit, I really want one of these. If I had the money I'd buy it instantly--completely and utterly retro and I love it.

Before Netflix, before zip...
Even before Redbox! I though they were first with the movie machines.
