  • The feature film 'the strangers' was influenced by the crime. It's really scary to think that the killer(s) are still out there.

  • its been thirty years and yet nothing i know someone out there knows something i read that one of the boys he said in the past that he heard nothing now wants tot write a tell all book , i mean if he knows something tell the cops why write a book?

  • OMG why'd they have to kill john!? HES SO HOT.

  • @xbox4567 ....Yes because being hot is all that matters in life.

  • Wasn't the movie "the Strangers" based on this ?

  • @MrFerdell

This and the Manson murders i think too : )

  • This crime was committed probably by a serial killer team much like Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole. The boys hitched a ride with their killers and the rest is history. Anyone familiar with Lucas/Toole and team serial-kller types might agree with this hypothesis. Chances are that by the time Sheila walked through the front door, the killers were hundreds of miles away, unfazed, relaxed and refreshed and trolling for another victim(s). Scary that this can happen here in modern America.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 That is definately a possibility. Especially because of the fact that the place was a tourist attraction AND it was next to train tracks. There have been other cases of totally random murders, in homes near train tracks, commited by drifters hopping the trains. Killer teams like Lucas/Toole could have easily pulled this off, and gotten away with it because of the fact that they did not know the victims and were not from the area. That could explain how nobody was caught.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 I would further venture to say that the perpetrators are deceased. I hadn't thought about the train tracks, I just imagined the vastness of California and the remoteness of the area. I still "feel" in my gut that the killers were more(if not)mobile drifter team-killers in the mold of Lucas/Toole. Read Robert D. Hare's book: Without Conscious. Homo-Sapiens(we) are the only species on the planet that kills its own kind for pleasure. Psychopath=reptile brain. Sue was struggling.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 It seems to be a duo to me to. The hammer was used by the subservient, the knife for the dominating one. Although I wouldn't say it was a Lucas/Toole type duo. I'd say it was probably teenagers who planed it out, dipped there feet in murder and decided it wasn't for them. But then again, the overkill would suggest that the killers were very much into it. So who knows.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 I doubt it would be a Lucas/Toole or Panzram type deal for some reason. Mostly because half the stuff Lucas made up was lies. Toole was a petty pyromaniac and Lucas only killed his girlfriend and landlord.

  • @EcnelOvelam Toole and Lucas aside: I picture a team of drifters who happened upon this opportunity at the 'right' time and acted. I also believe that they were seasoned killers practiced at what they were doing. I doubt it was teenagers looking for a thrill-but then again Life Is Stranger Than Fiction. Like Toole/Lucas, they wandered seeking victims along their meandering course on the open road, they may have even been lovers, too. Who knows, maybe time will tell.

  • I grew up in Quincy. My youngest brother went to school with Tina. I knew Dana Wingate's father. This was a very horrific occurrence. Keddie is between a major highway and a railroad... Much of the evidence was destroyed, this due to a power outage @ the Sheriffs office, which was in the Courthouse. Everything was lost, and they had portions of the walls cut out with evidence...the whole place smelled of rot...

  • There has to be DNA of the Killer. It was a blood bath! This video needs to be kept live. This really needs to be solved. Surely someone today can solve this horrible crime! Killers cant walk free!

  • how do they know if it was a random attack or a revenge killing???

  • It was a tragic event.. i went to school with Dana, and do remember him at school, and in town on several occassions hanging out..Watched the first movie, and read everything i could find about it. I believe it to be linked exclusively to Marty and Bo.. As far as who actually did the killing, i would say his friend Bo! Now supposedly he lives in Florida..Why doesn't someone go down there n take him out!

  • @birdhunter42 Because your stupid........

  • @birdhunter42 Many accounts say Bo is deceased.

  • Look at older comments and the one by "rocktemptress". Marty Smartt was Justin Eason´s stepfather and Justin is the boy who was at the murder scene but wasn´t attacked. Justin´s description of the murderers matched Marty and Bo.

  • There are many weird characteristics about this case. Starting from the suspect names like "Smartt" and "Boudebene" to the reactions of local residents seen in this film. Nobody really seems to be that concerned although three children and one adult were murdered. It seems like it´s all some big joke. But Crime Library has a mention about the case, so it did indeed happen.

  • I wonder if police thoroughly investigated the case and used all of their resources to solve it or if it wasn´t their top priority despite the brutality of the crime because the victims were "trash".

  • @Adinax86 I would be willing to bet that if the same thing happened to a 'prominant' family, (like if they were related to the mayor or something), or even if they were just a wealthy family, they would have put alot more resouces and effort into the investigation...I was watching another video about this murder, and the neighbors, who were interviewed, were saying all kinds of judgemental and negative things about this unfortunate family. Chances are, most of it wasn't even true. Very sad.

  • @dslgunner1977 Yes I read that Tina´s bloody jacket was found under one of Marty´s buildings. They apparently had a lot of physical evidence tying Marty and Bo to the case. I don´t think police made too much of an effort to bring the suspet to court and the victim´s low social standard probably has a lot to do with it.

  • @Adinax86 I read about that too...if that is true, I can't believe that isn't enough to charge him for murder - at least to get him in court. I think you are absolutely right about the low social standard - and that is very upsetting, because it shouldn't matter...they were human beings, and they did not deserve to die in such a horrible, gruesome way.

I also heard that "Sue" (the mother) rejected either Marty or Bo, when he asked her on a date, but I don't know how true that is.

  • @dslgunner1977 They asked her to accompany Bo to the bar and the rejection was apparently the motive for the murders. I think that part is true and I think it was initially confirmed by Marilyn, Marty´s wife. While that is no real motive for a gruesome killing like this people like that don´t necessarily need real motives if they´re savages by nature.

  • @Adinax86 Your absolutely right about that...normal, healthy people wouldn't murder somebody for rejecting them, but if a person is a violent sociopath to begin with, that could definately be a motive - especially with the fact that there was such a terrible degree of over-kill, it sugests that it was very personal.

I also heard rumors of the son and his friend stealing drugs from a dealer, days before the murders, (which could definately get a person killed) but I don't know how true that is.

  • I wonder why they took Tina away from the scene. A jacket that is suspected to have been Tina´s, was found under one of Marty Smartt´s buildings. It was apparently bloody. Smartt´s wife, Marilyn, stated that she believed her husband, Marty, and his friend, John "Bo" Boudebene, committed the crime. Their son, Justin, was at the scene at the time of the murders but wasn´t attacked. His description of the killers matched Marty and Bo.

  • @Pinhead222 THE BUTLER DID IT LOL

  • Victor you don't care bc no one loves you. It's obvious.

  • @rocktemptress I have a question, where is this guy that everyone thinks did this? I mean that is crazy, the cops just took him to the edge of town and told him not to come back> that sounds pretty far fetched to me, are you sure those arent just rumors? does the family thats let know everyone in town suspects this guy? good luck on getting whoever did it, sounds horrible!!

  • I think the video tells and says alot for the community of Keddie. I was a resident of Quincy in 1981. I remember, and shed a tear, everytime i watch the videos, and read the reports.. i have my own idea on who killed them.. I went to school with the windgates' kids. it's really tragic...

  • @birdhunter42

who do you think it was?

and yes you are right this was a horrifying crime,if you are uncomfortable naming names i respect that but what do you think the motive was?

  • you r sick! i was in that small town, when that happened. laugh all u want, it's really too bad, that we didn't have the forensics back then.. you wouldn't be laughing if it was someone u knew that died that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Heh heh heh the funny thing is... Is that I dont care. People die. People go. Might as well laugh at everyone that goes out Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha xD And the fact you were in the small town intrests me. Did you get on t.v? I wouldve at least tried ha ha xD

  • * What do you expect when your going out in a "remote location"/ less chance of police finding you in time. On your own. No gun. Unprepared???

You mine as well prepare for Death. I swear people are stupid.

Crime happens all the time, specially in the city, but dammit there are even sicker murderers in this world that live in "remote locations" with enough time on their hands to really get nasty with your body

  • the manson murders were more fucked up than this

  • @megamovielover23 NOo this is way more fucked. Go to keddie

  • i wonder if the friday the 13th movies were based on this, wow thats crazy. guy goes in with a buthcher knife and claw hammer, takes 12 year old girl to take her away and rape her. blood everywhere.man this guy must have been on the hunt or something like a wolf, its all about sex and power, believe me if i ever crossed the line and went out of control i could prob develop a taste for this evil. but i know i would never croos this line.

  • I think it was a killer who likes young victims with a particalure hair color and sex, he was very good at what he did becouse if he was sloppy the cops would have got him by now. This person still kills today if he is able to, only because the way he killed them....there are sick people in this world and it will keep on happening until we get smarter........

  • supposedly the people that were unharmed in the back room were toddlers so i doubt it was them.

  • how do you sleep through a gruesome stabbing like this. I believe this happened but I think this is extremely fucked up

  • @metalhead4life45 this did happend for sure i have a friend liveing in plumas county and its very fucked up a police officer killed himself over this :[ they also say it might been a bad drug deal...

  • o my lord

  • i think that the other family members found unharmed in a back room did it...no one can sleep through that grusome of a murder. That part of the story is suspicious.

  • Was this based on the strangers?

  • other way around dude.

  • i hope they solve this.

  • they cant, any evidence left untouched was destryed along with the cabin
