The pendulum path length on the floor is always set at five inches by using a ruler and adjusting the vertical position of the pendulum (using the knob on the top) as needed. The vertical position is then locked using a knob in the back that doesn't show in the photos. -- George Sotter

how do you first set the pendulum swing? This will greatly effect the outcome won't it?
