He had inked his deal with WCW knowing he was facing Michaels the day before his WWF contract was due to expire. He was happy to drop the belt, but not to Shawn. Bret wasn't happy with any scenario presented to him for various reasons. So Vince opted to take to now-infamous screwjob route. Whomever suggested it is irrelevant now. It happened. Then prior to over the edge Owen had descended into the ring before but Vince was mad that it took so long to remove the harness. So these idiots came up with the quick release, killing him.

If anything they could have ended the match in a double DQ and had Bret challenge someone else (who got involved in the match) to a title match on the spot and drop the title to them (ala Hogan winning the title at WM 9). Shamrock would've been a good choice or they could have set up a scenario where Owen got kicked out of the Foundation and had him go over Bret. There's a ton of ways this could have played out.

In his own mind he is. In what the rest of us call reality, nope. Hunter (HHH) has admitted that he told Vince screw it, if the guy wont do business (drop the belt to Shawn) then do it for him. And he was right in saying so. Bret was the Eric Clapton of the WWF, he totally believed his own hype. He hated Shawn for many reasons, not the least of which was Shawn making a crack about how Bret slept with Sunny on live T.V., and refused to lay down for him. Plain and simple.

Owen died because advice from various experts was ignored. Owen could have refused to do it but didn't. Then again, Owen could have left the WWF with the rest of the Harts but couldn't - apparently he was tied to his contract so wasn't allowed to quit. So it's Vince McMahon who signed off on the story that resulted in Owen's death, and Russo's for conceiving the Blue Blazer angle in the first place. Russo is a parasite, McMahon is a virus. Bret wanted to leave the then-WWF for WCW because he wasn't happy with the direction the WWF was going. He had inked his deal with WCW knowing he was facing Michaels the day before his WWF contract was due to expire. He was happy to drop the belt, but not to Shawn. Bret wasn't happy with any scenario presented to him for various reasons. So Vince opted to take to now-infamous screwjob route. Whomever suggested it is irrelevant now. It happened. Bret was screwed over by Vince McMahon.

He discussed it with Hart, and they mutually agreed that he should sign with WCW. It had nothing to do with WWF's "direction", and no telling of the story that I ever heard said that was the case.

He holds a lot of jobs and is not qualified for any of them; nor is he qualified to say that Bret Hart said he was leaving with the belt. My guess is if Francis was told that, he was told that by one of Bret's greasy sisters Diana or Ellie. The only reason Francis even has a job is because his mommy is the publisher of the paper he works for.

Actually I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of the people who were in attendance would have understood and accepted either a full refund of what they paid for tickets or a delay in the resumption of the event for a few days just based on the fact that SOMEONE DIED IN FRONT OF THEM.

Shamrock would've been a good choice or they could have set up a scenario where Owen got kicked out of the Foundation and had him go over Bret. There's a ton of ways this could have played out.

ok so i guess that vince mcmahon WAS telling the truth when he said qoute: "i didn't screw bret hart" but vince russo was the one that screwed Bret, but in one of Bret's books, he said that the plan was for shawn to put Bret in the sharpshooter, then have bret reverse it, then sometime in the match, have Bret ger disquallified, and the next night on raw, he would forfeit the title.
